Nurturing Natural Connections 

Our client is looking for a passionate and driven person to habitat restoration, creation and enhancement activities on their owned greenspaces within the Nurturing Natural Connections (NNC) project, working closely with the Cumbernauld Reserves Manager, and project partners, and with the help of volunteers. 

Building on the success of previous projects, this project continues to realise the Cumbernauld Living Landscape long-term vision to improve Cumbernauld’s green spaces for both people and wildlife, helping everyone in the community connect with the nature on their doorstep. 

The candidate: 

The successful candidate will have a Higher Education qualification in environmental land management (Wildlife conservation/agriculture) and at least two years’ experience of wildlife reserve management and demonstrable track record in the environmental land management sector. 

Main Objectives 

The main objectives of the role are: 

Habitat management 

• Support delivery of habitat works, including woodland restocking towards native semi-natural woodland, creation and enhancement of species-rich grasslands and enhancing riparian corridors. 

• Monitor and evaluate (M&E) the delivery of these works including details of their successes and challenges. 

• Undertake and manage the maintenance of tools and equipment for relevant sites, including machinery, to ensure safe and efficient operation. 

• Respond to severe weather events with reactive remedial works as required e.g. clearing fallen trees and reinstating ground damaged by flooding. 

Health and Safety 

• Ensure compliance with health and safety, including safe working practices, volunteer safety, premises safety, and site safety. 

• Ensure all work by project staff, and volunteers is carried out in a safe manner, and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, policies, activity risk assessments and best practice guidance. 

Volunteer recruitment 

• Support the recruitment of volunteers and identify and promote volunteer opportunities within Cumbernauld Living Landscape. 

• Work with individual volunteers and volunteer groups (including corporate groups) so that their contributions and experiences are maximised and, where required, organise and mentor volunteers ensuring that they receive support and appropriate training. 

Wider project work 

• Support the team’s wider communications plan with blogs and social media content. 

• Support project team with events and other project-wide opportunities, with occasional working of evenings and weekends for activities including bat walks, moth trapping and dawn chorus walks. 

• Contribute to project reporting, including M&E across the life of the project (2025-2030), including the identification of highlights and challenges. 

The successful candidate will ideally have: 

• Relevant degree or N/SVQ Level 3 / 4 or equivalent demonstrable experience relating to countryside management. 

• Certification to NPTC/Lantra standards and experience in chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting and felling small trees. CS 30 and 31 or willingness to undergo qualification. 

• Certification to NPTC/Lantra standards and experience in strimmer and brushcutter operations or willingness to undergo qualification. 

• Certificate for trailer, all-terrain vehicles or willingness to undergo qualification. 

• Current first aid qualification or willingness to gain 

• 2 years of planning and delivering practical conservation work. 

• 2 years of volunteer supervision & management. 

• Demonstrable experience in the safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools. 

• Good understanding of land management for wildlife conservation, notably native flora & fauna.

The Organisation

Action on Disability (AoD), founded in 1979, is one of London’s leading Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs). The Project

Our Place is a project that is facilitated and managed by AoD. It is a 3-year National Lottery Community fund and Propel London funded project that will sit within our Independent Living Service. Our Place creates a community space and resource hub that Disabled people can call their own – led by them and facilitated by AoD staff. This service will be genuinely embedded in the local area, meeting needs expressed by local Disabled people to have their own place, and building links with amenities, businesses, and event spaces in Hammersmith and Fulham.

We want to enable businesses to feel more confident to welcome Disabled people and remove barriers. We want to create an inclusive and accessible space for Disabled people to socialise, build skills, pursue interests, and develop peer relationships.

Our Place operates alongside, and enhances, our current service provision. Central to this is ensuring that Disabled people have meaningful ownership over the space, from Steering Board input to operational delivery.

Disabled people will achieve their potential through four outcomes:

The Post

We are looking for a full time Project delivery support officer with a commitment to the vision of AoD to promote Independent Living, Peer Support and Co-production within this project. You will have strong community project delivery, administration and support skills, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to support the project and work effectively as part of a team. Your working hours will be dependent on the Our Place project activity schedule and may include early evening and weekend work.

Background to the role

Job description

Job Purpose

The weekend Home & Settle Project Officer is responsible for responding to referrals received over the weekend from both Royal London Hospital & Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. You will work with the manager on Friday to deliver services and plan visits on the weekend for you to attend.

The service supports people returning after a stay in hospital, helping them to settle back at home, regain confidence and support with some practical tasks, e.g. shopping/cleaning.  You will manage referrals, carry out assessments, and in liaison with the manager, allocate service users to Discharge and Settle Worker caseloads. You will provide direct frontline support and co-ordinate visits to the service users’ home in preparation for their return home. You will work collaboratively to lead and manage the weekend service to support the smooth transition from hospital to home for service users.  The service is time limited, up to 4 or 6 weeks, to adjust, build confidence, and settle back in their homes.

Key Tasks

• Act as the first point of contact for all referrals over the weekend across both hospitals.
• Meet with patients in the community and/or hospital and carrying out assessments and risk assessments.
• Enter referrals on to AUKEL’s case management system (currently Charity Log) in accordance with GDPR guidelines.
• Allocate referrals to Discharge and Settle workers (in the week) using tech available (currently the Call Round App), training will be available.
• Collect feedback from service users and upload to case management system.
• Prepare and keep stock of AUKEL Welcome Packs and service leaflets.
• Deputise for the manger at discharge planning and other meetings as required.
• Support hospitals to improve the patient’s experience of the discharge process.

The candidate:  

The successful candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience with at least 2 years’ experience in a communications/GIS related role. They will be skilled in creating high quality digital communicational outputs and have knowledge of monitoring these outputs for the purposes of report writing. This candidate will also support the Project Manager throughout the project and assist with the final report for the funder at the end of the project.

• To raise awareness of the projects progress and inspire the local community and stakeholders to take action for nature.

GUCE Project Manager Role

Community Energy is gaining momentum nationally, where people are increasingly coming together to  take control of their own energy supplies.  Grand Union Community Energy (GUCE, pronounced “juice”) is looking to see local communities along the Grand Union canal in Hertfordshire enjoy a clean and resilient energy system that benefits all.  We develop, support and promote renewable energy and energy efficiency projects for communities from Watford to Tring, and build householder resilience by helping them reduce their bills and energy use.

We are seeking a Project Manager for two days a week, to help develop the opportunities that are forthcoming. Depending on the skills of the applicant the same individual could also cover aspects of other roles we are looking to fill.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a person with experience in project management to join our small but expanding team. The Project Manager for Community Energy will be responsible for converting opportunities for local renewable energy generation and energy efficiency projects into reality. They will take projects from concept, through funding and construction to management.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Deliver new potential projects, such as opportunities with Watford industrial units:

  • Work with technical specialists to assess the energy needs of the community, including energy demand, infrastructure, and renewable energy potential (solar, wind, biomass, etc.).

  • Identify and engage stakeholders (local authorities, local organisations, energy providers, and residents).

• For new and existing projects: 

  • Develop and monitor an overall plan to realise projects including timelines, budgets, resources and risk management strategies in conjunction with the Development Officer / Project teams.

  • Manage share offers.

  • Communication with potential local investors.

  • Manage paperwork.

  • Ensure the projects are realised rather than remaining just good ideas.

  • Work with others to manage cross-functional teams, including installers, contractors, and local community leaders.

  • Coordinate with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and partners to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

  • Foster a collaborative environment with all project team members.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring all costs are tracked, controlled, and aligned with available funding.

  • Work in partnership with the installer to oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and services necessary for the project.

  • Track the progress of energy projects against objectives, milestones, and KPIs (key performance indicators).

  • Regularly report to stakeholders, funding agencies, and community members on project status and outcomes in collaboration with Project teams and Comms.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

In this role, the project manager serves as a bridge between technical experts, local communities, and other stakeholders, ensuring that energy solutions are not only sustainable and innovative but also beneficial and accessible to all involved.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: Pro-rated salary for 2 days per week, £13,000 to £19,000 per annum (£34,000 to £47,000 full time equivalent) depending on experience plus 3% pension contribution.

Hours: 2 days per week (15 hours). The working hours can be flexible.

Location: Home-working, ideally within the GUCE catchment area from Watford to Tring.

You will need to travel to meet stakeholders, attend relevant meetings and visit potential sites. You may be called upon to work outside office hours.

Contractual arrangements: 12 months fixed term with the opportunity to extend, subject to 3 months’ probation.

There is a notice period of four weeks from both sides.

Holidays: The equivalent of 28 days per annum excluding Bank Holidays, pro-rata for the part-time nature of the post.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Community Energy Pathways has been awarded £1.5M from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK, to deliver its Community Energy People project over three years. Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003. Each year, more than 200 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide or suicide or sudden death following domestic abuse. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after fatal domestic abuse.
