We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Borders Group. As our Communications Volunteer you’ll make sure people know they have a local MS Society group to turn to.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your writing skills, and gain an experience of communicating across a range of digital channels. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

We are seeking a proactive and skilled WordPress Website Developer Volunteer to support the ongoing development and maintenance of our website, helping us improve access to information, campaign visibility, and community resources.

Job Summary

The WordPress Website Developer Volunteer will be responsible for managing and enhancing our website’s functionality, performance, and user experience. This role includes tasks such as page creation, plugin and theme management, updates, bug fixes, and content integration, ensuring the website is accessible, secure, and reflective of Trans Celebration’s values and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the WordPress website, including themes, plugins, and content.
• Ensure website security, performance, and accessibility compliance.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and apply necessary fixes or improvements.
• Collaborate with the content and design teams to implement new features or page layouts.
• Optimise site structure, responsiveness, and mobile compatibility.
• Assist with SEO enhancements and website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
• Ensure consistent branding and user-friendly navigation throughout the site.
• Provide basic technical support or documentation for internal users or editors.

What We’re Looking For

Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in WordPress (customisation, page builders, plugins, and themes).
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic PHP.
• Experience with website troubleshooting, security, and performance optimisation.
• Understanding of responsive and accessible web design principles.
• Ability to integrate third-party tools (e.g., MailChimp, forms, social media feeds).
• Experience working with page builders like Elementor, WPBakery, or Gutenberg is a plus.

Bonus Experience (Not Required):

• Knowledge of SEO best practices and Google Analytics.
• Experience in nonprofit or grassroots digital communication strategies.
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design.

After successfuly completing our aplciation, vetting and training process ARCh Reading Helpers visit a local primary school (close to home or workplace) twice a week during the school day (usually early afternoons), spending a 1:1 "happy half hour" each time with three children selected by the school.  These children may be struggling with reading, lack language skills or have little confidence.  The volunteer talks with the child, shares books and plays games supplied by ARCh.  In this way a mentoring relationship is developed over the course of a year.

Volunteers provide a warm, positive experience of reading and with encouragement over a sustained period, reluctant readers gain confidence in their ability and begin to read for pleasure.  This one to one support has a positive effect on all areas of the child''s schoolwork and improves their life prospects.

We need volunteers who can be relied upon to attend their sessions regularly and volunteer with ARCh for a minimum of one school year.

Our transport volunteers provide vital assistance to our teams and volunteer groups in the local area by transporting equipment, litter, food – and even cats! What we need from you

You’ll be:

Time expectation

Our transport volunteers usually spend two to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.

Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route. 

The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities. 

Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role. 

We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, under represented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men. 

Trailblazers are looking for Volunteer Mentors who are:

• Empathetic with a positive outlook and manner.

Commitment:Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9.15am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare, but ideally at least 2 hours per week.

Finance Volunteer

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.
