Educational Grants & Relationships Manager 

The Merchant Taylors' Company is looking for an exceptional person to lead on its educational grant-making and its education-related relationships. The grant-making is delivered primarily through the Merchant Taylors' Foundation. It’s  partly about schools but also potentially any setting in which education improves lives – for example, offender rehabilitation, or our Early Years joint programme with the Leathersellers’ Company. 

You’ll sustain vibrant relationships between the Company and schools throughout England and Northern Ireland with which it has close links. Some are state-maintained, some in the independent sector, and you’ll love both types.

You’ll lead on education-related volunteering opportunities for the Company’s membership, a vibrant community of people whose birth decades span the early 2000s back to the 1930s. 

You’ll also lead on relationships with all the stakeholders affecting our education-related work. You’ll ensure those relationships are flourishing and mutually advantageous, and you’ll lead on identifying and building new ones to increase our impact. 

You’ll support fundraising work for the Foundation, for example through creating compelling pieces for social media and hard copy publications. 

You’re a fast learner and clearly very able. You are clever, proactive, pragmatic and financially astute. Your influencing and diplomatic skills are strong. Your social skills are brilliant with people of all ages and walks of life. Your oral and written communication skills are excellent, and you’ll need them for working with Merchant Taylors’ boards and committees and communicating with the Company’s membership. You’re not afraid of taking responsibility, or being accountable. You are a strategic thinker. You’re great on the big picture as well as the detail. You’re confident with figures and financial information. You’re also confident with IT and, given we’re a small team, you’ll love using IT applications to help us work efficiently. 

You don’t need a professional background in education. The qualities above are much more important. This job could suit someone with great potential who is looking for the next step up, or someone who can already demonstrate experience of everything from their career to date. As the Trust and Grants Manager, you will be responsible for generating income from trusts and grants. Based within the Development Team you will look to identify funding opportunities to secure funds to ensure the Hospice successfully achieves its objectives and development plan. With experience of writing bid writing, trust applications and reporting you will have excellent attention to detail and effectively manage deadlines. We are looking for an excellent team player and communicator who is ambitious and solution focussed and has the energy and passion to drive forward our aspirations and operational goals.

Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.

 Reprieve works with the people whose circumstances have made them extremely vulnerable, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. About this role

The role of the Finance and Payroll Manager is to support the Development and Finance teams to manage and report on restricted income, as well as to manage monthly in-house payroll under the guidance of the Head of Finance. This involves ensuring that we are maximising the use of restricted funding, and that money is spent in line with donors’ wishes and that staff are paid accurately and on time each month. The Finance and Payroll Manager will work within a small Finance team under the supervision of the Head of Finance. They will work closely with the Joint ED, wider Senior Management Team, Head of Development and budget holders throughout the organisation.

They will support the Head of Finance with annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting as well as with the production of the monthly management accounts. They will support the Development team in making grant applications and develop restricted grant budgets for newly secured grants for integration into the organisational budget; they will meet regularly with the Development team and budget holders to review restricted project spend. They will produce reports for funders working in conjunction with our Development Team and casework teams. The Finance and Payroll Manager will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement of the finance systems, processes and grant management tools to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose.

Contract and location

The role is a full-time, permanent position with an annual salary of £50,571 per annum less any required deductions for Income Tax and National Insurance. 

 Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.

You will have a good understanding of the CQC framework relating to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.  You will carry out quarterly assurance audits in all safe houses ensuring any appropriate action is taken where necessary.

You will line manage, induct, mentor, coach and support Service Managers.  Additionally, you will ensure that any complaints, grievances and disciplinaries are investigated and responded to in an effective and timely manner in line with Medaille Policies.

Although the post is home based, the post holder will be expected to travel frequently to our safe houses within the South and London areas with some overnight stays.

You must have previous experience in a relevant sector or experience of working with adults that are vulnerable.  Experience of managing staff, carrying out line management, supervision and appraisals is essential.  Additionally, you must have experience of setting up Service User Engagement groups.

Your role

As Assistant Shop Manager, it is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Shop Manager in Surbiton's brand new Scope shop (Victoria Road, Surbiton, KT6 4NS). The shop will be opening mid 2024.  You will be able to use your creativity and flair to flourish in our retail environment. Our retail roles are full of variety, and every day is different! One day you might be be generating and processing stock and designing an eye-catching window display. The next day you might be recruiting and training our wonderful volunteers. Every day there will be a different challenge that you’ll find extremely rewarding. You may also deputise and be responsible for running the shop when the shop manager is absent. A great attitude and willingness to learn are just as important as relevant experience.

You’ll be a dedicated team player with a strong work ethic and committed to providing excellent customer service. You do not need specific retail experience. But we do ask that you are business minded and have worked in a fast paced, service environment where you put the customer’s needs first. Role Purpose

Are you a strong fundraiser with experience of corporate partnerships? Do you have an eye for new opportunities to grow income, and the ability to lead them with ambition? You will work closely with the Head of Corporate Partnerships to steward our key strategic partners and reach out to new potential partners.

At Hatch we are not limited by opportunities but by capacity. Demand for our programmes is greater than ever, from beneficiaries as well as from corporate and governmental partners. Over the past four years, we have made strides in developing our Fundraising income, pipeline and capabilities enabling us to rapidly pivot, innovate and capitalise on new funding opportunities. Our income has grown from £500k pa  in 2019 to over £2m in 2023  and we’ve even been shortlisted for the Third Sector Fundraising Team of the Year 2022.

We have a strong track record in developing corporate partnerships and delivering against programmatic grants. We have multi-year partnerships with UBS, NatWest, eBay, Pizza Hut, Bloomberg and BlackRock to name a few. Working with our Head of Corporate Partnerships, we would see you building on this track record and personally taking the lead on creating and inspiring bigger, better and stronger partnerships.

Responsibilities

Account Management/ Stewardship

• Supporting day-to-day stewardship of Hatch’s strategic partners including Pizza Hut, UBS, BlackRock and NatWest.

New Business

• Fully research potential prospects and identify new regional and UK wide partnership opportunities, targeting proposals and making the most of links to develop long lasting partnerships.

• Cultivate potential employer partners, using networking and commercial skills to make imaginative, accurate and timely partnership proposals and applications.

• Support Head of Corporate Partnerships in securing and growing each partnership’s financial contribution covering both a corporate charitable donation and launching new employee engagement/fundraising activities.

Reporting/ Comms

• Write compelling cases for support to engage and motivate new and existing funders.

• Manage Benevity and Donorbox for additional donations.

• Use Monday. com and other CRM systems to record all approaches and delivery.

• Ensure the invoice and impact reporting schedule is clear with written contract agreements in place.

• Support Head of Corporate Partnerships to move partnerships from ‘in year’ renewal to a secure multi year (ideally three) year commitments/ written agreement.

• Work with colleagues to collate and deliver accurate data insights and impact reporting and inspiring story telling collateral related to partnerships.

• Develop the brand ambassador pillar of the partnership, inspiring and engaging employees to want to volunteer and fundraise  for Hatch Enterprise, delivering effective employee focussed events and content for corporate comms internal and external channels.

• Collate and share information for internal and external reporting purposes (i.e. sharing best practice, success stories).

Person Specification 

• Superb networking and relationship management skills, evidenced by experience of New Business Development and Account Management, ideally in the charity sector;

• An excellent  copywriter, with the ability to create compelling proposals which demonstrate the impact of our work and present a strong case for support to funders;

• Good knowledge of the UK corporate sector;

• Experience of prospect research, and with exceptional attention to detail;

• Analytical skills and the ability to see an opportunity, make a connection and seize the moment in relation to partnership building to meet mutual objectives;

• Efficient and accurate administrative and organisation skills;

• Good understanding and experience of working with corporate CSR, D&I, HR and commercial teams to build partnerships;

• An independent thinker, with the energy and organisational skills to manage different leads and work to tight deadlines;

• Ability to work effectively with others and in a team, to convene and facilitate stakeholders to collaborate on projects.

• Able to commit to evening and day-time events, predominantly in London.

• Develop relationships with key stakeholders in the NHS, health care and social care professionals to inspire and enable them to feel engaged and supported to co-create and prescribe a Nature Prescription, and to connect RSPB with the health sector to help create doors for future work.
• Engage with local healthcare professionals and community groups to co-design Nature Prescriptions materials with local people, community groups and healthcare professionals so that they reach a large diversity of people, and those that need and can benefit the most.
• Develop the project plan and ensure that the right governance structure for project management is in place and RSPB internal project management practices are followed, so that the project stays on track, comes in on budget and risks are identified, escalated, and managed within tolerances.
• Work with local environmental networks to build a picture of nature-based activities available and identify opportunities for partnership working.
• Lead on developing ways to evaluate and measure the impact of the project, including engaging with those prescribing and local communities to gather stories and case studies that demonstrate the benefits to wellbeing and connectedness to nature.
• Build internal relationships with RSPB employees and volunteers working with nature prescribing and nature and wellbeing across the UK.
• Develop a strategy and plan for Nature and Wellbeing work legacy aiming to learn from the work done in Scotland and England and from the communities and health care professionals in Cardiff and surrounds to support development of future work in Cardiff and beyond.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience of working within or alongside the health and wellbeing sector.
• Project management experience with experience of leading on and developing and delivering projects with diverse communities.
• Experience of developing external partnerships and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders.
• Experience in delivering workshops or training, ideally with a co-design element.
• Excellent verbal and written communicator able to communicate nature and wellbeing messages in a way that is understood by a range of audiences and that engenders their support.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage and deliver a varied workload.
• Skilled in using Microsoft 365 suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience:

• Experience of SharePoint management.

40% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard - many of these children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise.

Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3,300 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the work of our fast-growing charity. You will work as part of the Chapter One Support Team, ensuring that our online reading volunteers have everything that they need - from onboarding to assisting with ID checks and responding to email queries. You will be the first point of contact for our online reading volunteers, so excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others is essential.

Reporting to the Performance and Data Manager, you will work for 25-30 hours a week (Monday to Friday) and will need to be available for an 09:30 am start each morning. You will work remotely, but must be located in the United Kingdom at the time of applying and whilst working. You will need to have access to a reliable internet connection.
