- You will be mentoring a Black or Brown person aged between 10 -25.
- Being a mentor who can relate to their experience as Black or Brown person you will support your mentee to help them to achieve and identify goals, helping to navigate the barriers to inclusion and assist them in achieving their goals,
- With the additional qualities of relatability and understanding, you will develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
- You will support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups.
- You will have fun, as you laugh, reflect and overcome challenges together, igniting imagination, and being inspired by your mentee as you join on their journey to positive change.
- You will be contributing to making the voices of our Black and Brown Youth Advisory Council members, to not only be heard, but to be a reality. They told us that diversity in mentoring matters, and they want to see more of it. They felt that having mentors who look like them brings a different approach, relatability and understanding to their mentoring experience.

- With 9 out of 10 of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has significantly improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.
- We have a waiting list of young people looking for someone like you. You can be that someone in a young persons life that perhaps you wish you had, someone who can inspire, support and motivate a young person who looks like or identifies with you. All you need is time, commitment and your own experience of life, and we’ll help you with the rest.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person sessions should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face
Training
Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, cover topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach and the growth mindset all of which will help you to effectively support someone to making steps towards positive change.

- In person sessions will take place near to where your mentee lives, within Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea boroughs.

We are looking for talented, articulate people to join us as grants fundraising volunteers.
As our work develops, we increasingly need to ask funders to support our work – and we could do with some help with creating our smaller grant applications.
We are looking to grow our activities for children aged five and upwards, new sessions for adults in the community and our youth support coaching programme. We also need funds to help our residents with food and hygiene items – including ‘welcome packs’ for everyone who comes to live with us.
Joining us as a grants fundraising volunteer will involve you in having a small group of trusts and grant-makers to apply to, using our established budgets and cases for support, and – where your applications are successful – providing written and visual evidence to report back on how we’ve spent the money. We want you to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in being at the heart of making things happen for young people, and there will be occasional opportunities to attend cheque presentations and other events if you would like to.
This is a role that can be carried out remotely and at times that suit you, although we’d hope to see you spending some time at the YMCA to get to know the work that you will be supporting.
Your Role
- To get to know our work and the specific projects and items that YMCA Doncaster needs to raise grant funding for.
- To develop a clear understanding of the ‘Cases for Support’ that you will be using in writing your applications.
- To take on a small group of trusts and grant-makers, submit applications to them and answer basic queries during the application process.
- To make sure that those who fund our work are thanked, acknowledged appropriately and updated on the difference that their support makes.
- To carry out grantmaker searches as needed.
- To attend – if you would like to – cheque presentations and other events on behalf of YMCA Doncaster.
- To carry out other grants-related tasks as needed.

About the opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Greater Manchester Board of Trustees.
The Young Women’s Trustee will lead the development of understanding the needs of Smart Works Greater Manchester’s younger clients aged 16 to 25 years (these being unemployed, NEET or in danger of becoming NEET, and those leave the care system) and become a recognised and valued advocate for this community across Greater Manchester.
The successful candidate will develop new and existing connections with referral partners who support young unemployed women, input to the marketing plan and social media content to better reach and communicate with this audience, and build relationships with corporate partners and grant funders who support this community.
The candidate will also have the opportunity to connect with policy makers focussed on improving the employment outcomes for young women across Greater Manchester.
General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee
- Work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees to ensure the centre is well-run and governed effectively.
- Provide support to determine the strategic direction of the Centre.
- Advocate for the Centre, raising its profile and the awareness of the Smart Works service in the geographic area.
- Build strong working relationships with the Chair, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters.
- Work in a small team and tailor strong interpersonal and communication skills to all levels of seniority.
Personal Specification
The Young Women’s Trustee will use their skills and experience to amplify the voices of Smart Works Greater Manchester’s younger clients and successfully network with key employment and skills programme providers, third sector, and 16+ educational organisations that exist across Greater Manchester.
Lived experience of unemployment and / or experience supporting social value or youth unemployment projects is preferred, but not essential.
The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm for developing at board level and will become a real advocate for young women living in socially disadvantaged and minority communities across Greater Manchester.
The Young Women’s Trustee will be required to sit on relevant task force groups as and when experience is relevant and attend (and prepare for) Board meetings taking place quarterly. For those new to Board positions, a mentor from the wider trustees team will be provided.

Pupils in a pupil referral unit have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling.
As mentor to a young person between the ages of 11-16, you will meet together on a weekly basis initially at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.
Often faced with the increase likelihood of challenges experienced due to being in a pupil referral unit, trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques by Unfold, you will inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.
What impact will this have?
We have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles.
Commitment
You will have a total of 24 weekly sessions of around 1-2 hours, meetting during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build a relationship with your mentee, sessions will then aim to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, sessions may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.
Training

As part of our strategic priorities, RollaDome All Skate is currently seeking, detail-oriented, reliable, friendly Clubs Administrator to join our growing team. You will be expected to deliver a high-quality experience to our members and visitors in a friendly yet professional manner at all times.
Front of House:
· Meet and greet members, visitors to the Clubs and attend to their requirements as needed.
· Deal with all general membership enquiries, including booking issues, registration information and bookings.
· Set up and administer all club related activities on time booking sheet to include medical information, equipment sizes, all club bookings and event planning.
· Keep members informed in relation to any rescheduling, delays, or changes to planed club events and activities.
· Ensure club times are adhered to.

Support the Nova Family Programme tutors in facilitating online home school sessions.
Role Description:

With the disruption of Covid-19, many families have been thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. What is the Best You Can Be Mentoring Programme?
The Best You can Be Mentoring Programme is a community-led initiative supported by the Mercers fund. It aims to engage young boys and girls from the ages 9-18 years of ethnic minority backgrounds living in or attending a school in Hackney, in a 12- month mentoring relationship.
The programme focuses on three key areas:

Activities might include helping with homework, helping students with reading, writing, maths and science, life skills, understanding the working world and sharing skills and experiences, playing a board game, financial literacy support, CV writing, writing an article for the mentoring magazine and group trips to places of interest.
Note: Mentors must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and a comprehensive mentoring and safeguarding training programme before being matched with a student. The ACS will cover the cost of the DBS check and provide training.
