Role Overview
We are seeking an HR Manager to oversee and support the HR needs of our volunteer-driven team. This includes managing recruitment, onboarding, volunteer engagement, and payroll administration. Working closely with leadership, the HR Manager will ensure HR policies, compliance, and processes align with best practices and our strategic goals. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, remote environment and understands the unique dynamics of a volunteer-based organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Lifecycle Management

• Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, role transitions, and offboarding processes for volunteers to ensure smooth operations
• Collaborate with managers to define volunteer roles clearly and foster a positive volunteer experience

Policy Development and Compliance

• Develop and review HR policies in accordance with UK employment standards, adapting them to fit a volunteer-based organisation
• Ensure GDPR compliance and maintain confidential records for all volunteers

Payroll and Remuneration Oversight

• Administer volunteer expense reimbursements and, where applicable, stipends, while collaborating with finance on accurate record-keeping
• Monitor pay spines for any contracted staff and align with budgetary considerations

Training and Development

• Identify training and development needs for volunteers, source relevant training providers, and coordinate volunteer development initiatives
• Promote a culture of growth, inclusion, and well-being within our volunteer team

Data and Reporting

• Prepare monthly HR reports to provide insights into volunteer engagement and retention
• Support leadership with data-driven insights to enhance volunteer experience and overall HR strategy

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

• Chartered CIPD membership or a postgraduate qualification in Human Resources Management or Employment Law (or actively working towards these qualifications)
• Minimum of 3 years’ UK-based HR experience, with an understanding of volunteer coordination and management
• Knowledge of payroll processes and HR practices suited to a volunteer-based environment

Desirable:

• Experience in a remote or geographically dispersed organisation
• Familiarity with the charity sector and understanding of volunteer-led dynamics

Skills and Attributes

• Strong organisational skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Excellent communication skills, able to work tactfully with volunteers and colleagues at all levels

Salary: £28,000 plus London Weighting (£2,600) dependent on location

Location:Remote with frequent travel to projects in Hampshire, Berkshire and London. This includes projects in Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Havant, Portsmouth, Southampton, Slough and Reading. You can also work from FoodCycle’s office in Vauxhall, London

In this role you will have the opportunity to manage and develop our community meals projects in your region. Our projects are spaces where volunteers are empowered to run their own community meals using surplus food. Our guests can look forward to a hearty weekly meal in their local community where they will make friends and feel well nourished.

You will manage recruit and train local volunteers to be empowered to run these projects. You will liaise with a network of charities, build local relationships and create the most incredible community meals in your area. You will also line manage a Project Support Officer working across London and the South East.

You will be an excellent communicator, with experience of recruiting and managing volunteers. Using strong organisation skills, you will ensure our volunteers are trained, supported and on-message with FoodCycle strategy, and are confident enough to self-organise and make a success of their projects.

You will live within Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, or London with easy access to these counties (South, West, or North West London). You will be willing and able to travel within the region, and to work some evenings and weekends.

The Supporter Relationship Manager is responsible for all individual donor support processes, systems, strategies and individual giving fundraising appeals, which ensure we have excellent relationships with our donors to retain and grow our individual giving income.

Job Profile

CAFOD’s mission in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and equip Catholics to actively engage in the Church’s efforts to overcome poverty and injustice. Our regional teams focus on recruiting and supporting a dedicated group of volunteers within parish and school communities, empowering them to educate, engage, and inspire others to act in solidarity for the common good. Regional teams also collaborate with clergy and other representatives across the Catholic community to ensure CAFOD’s volunteer programme is aligned with faith life.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide administrative and communications support to the Community Participation Coordinators across England and Wales, with a focus on the West & Wales region as the first point of contact. • Lead on and deliver a plan to increase individual giving income from streams including, but not exclusive to, direct mail, regular giving, legacies, in-mem and our charity lottery
• Effective use of KPIs to ensure decisions are driven by evidence and real-time data.
• Continuously analyse our income and supporter data to measure effectiveness of activities and return on investment.
• Work alongside our design agencies and in-house marketing team to develop and manage direct mail campaigns, including segmentation to ensure campaigns will be carefully targeted and designed to maximise income.
• Explore and test new methods for donor recruitment and increasing donations.
• Seek every opportunity to increase awareness of legacy giving to Winston’s Wish and monitor the effectiveness of these activities over time.
• Manage a growing portfolio of legacy enquirers with appropriate contact and timely solicitation of prospective legators including hosting events and tailored stewardship.
• Manage the stewardship and development of our regular giving programme including uplift campaigns and solicitation of new donors to agreed targets.
• Work alongside the wider fundraising team to ensure effective cross-selling of individual giving products and vice-versa identify opportunities to introduce other fundraising products to our individual givers.
• Identify supporters who could provide compelling content which could be used by the wider Fundraising & Marketing team to inspire further support including suggesting key individuals who could feature in online and offline publications.
• Work with the Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager to ensure that potential major donors are identified and included in relevant activities.

Administration

• Diligently maintain records of all interactions with supporters on Salesforce.
• Ensure all activities comply with appropriate legal, regulatory and fundraising good practice and with Winston’s Wish policies and standards.
• Keep a close eye on incoming donations to ensure they are coded correctly and that supporter data is accurately recorded in accordance with GDPR.
• Effective management and control of expenditure across all projects and campaigns in line with agreed expenditure budgets.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

• A sound understanding of the principles of fundraising across individual giving, in-memory fundraising, and legacies.
• Proven track record of preparing successful programmes of activity and business plans to recruit, engage, inspire, and retain supporters in a not-for-profit organisation, or similar transferable experience gained in the commercial sector.
• Specific experience of delivering an individual giving programme.
• Experience of budgets, including planning, forecasting, and analysing performance.
• Experience of high-level use of a customer relationship management system.
• Experience of managing direct mail campaigns.
• Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail to plan and schedule multiple activities, respond flexibly to opportunities, handle conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

• Understanding of childhood bereavement.
• Experience of using Salesforce CRM.

At Toc H Newport, we offer co-produced activities, outreach services and practical support to some of the most disadvantaged individuals and families in the area, reaching over 600 individuals in 2024.Our vision is of a neighbourhood where everyone has the strong community life, emotional wellbeing and socioeconomic opportunities needed to flourish.

Our centre for service delivery is the Toc H Community Centre in Eveswell, Newport, where our offer includes our popular Stay and Play sessions for low-income families, and children’s after-school club Active Juniors. Our activities and services are incredibly popular, and we hold longstanding partnerships with local agencies and stakeholders. 

It is an exciting period of growth for Toc H Newport, with a number of new funding streams making it possible for us to reach many more families in need across Newport in 2025 and beyond. This includes a £300,000 grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Community Ownership Fund, allowing us to soon complete a full structural and interior renovation of our facilities.  Following a Community Asset Transfer, our space will soon triple in size, meaning we can offer more activities and services to more local people. We’re recruiting a Strategic Partnerships Manager to lead long-term, community-driven change across the city. This is a permanent role with real purpose-working at a strategic level to bring together senior leaders from business, the voluntary sector, and public services to deliver meaningful, lasting impact through Bristol’s Place programme.

You’ll play a key role in forging and managing high-value relationships with funders, ensuring performance targets are met, and securing new investment to expand and strengthen the programme. You’ll be a credible, driven, and collaborative leader-someone who can build trust, influence across sectors, and turn big ideas into action.

This role is supported by Business in the Community’s UK-wide Place Team, giving you a strong National network to draw on.

Based from home, you'll have the flexibility you need-along with regular travel across Bristol (minimum 3 days per week) to stay connected and lead from the front.

This is an important and interesting role with Vision North Somerset.  You will get to be hands on with our service users who are visually and/or hearing impaired. You will work with our amazing volunteers, both current and new, training them and managing them to provide services to help reduce social isolation and to build confidence.  You will also manage our Peer Support Service which currently includes telephone support groups and a befriending service.  There are 4 HUBS around the county that meet monthly and we hope to develop more.
