Role Overview
We are seeking two new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of Norwich Outpost. Detailed description
Mentoring within One YMCA is delivered through the youth team and volunteers. Young people aged 13-19 years can access the service which provides support and encouragement for young people to work towards their goals.
Mentors and mentees are paired based on experience, expertise and support needed.
This project will last for up to a year with each young person, with an average of 3-4 hours per month being given to the young person and their support.
Training for this role is due to commence on 22nd January 2025 (Time and Location TBC)
Pay: This is a voluntary role; however, expenses will be covered.
Key Responsibilities:
·To attend full induction training and complete all relevant child protection checks
·To arrange to meet with your mentee for 1-3 hours a month over a period of 12 months, in a public place.
·To prepare for your mentoring sessions with the purpose of progressing with their mutually agreed goals.
·To offer tailored support to your Mentee in areas such as confidence and resilience building, accessing services, careers focus and development. You may be working on a number of areas as the needs of your Mentee present themselves.

As a Festival TV Maker, you’ll receive practical, hands-on training with professional camera equipment, sound, and lighting. You’ll help produce over 50 high-quality debate videos, shared online for wide public access. Every volunteer will be credited for their work, a valuable asset for your CV or media career. Time commitment
- Five Board meetings per year (in person in Hammersmith west London), plus membership of at least one board sub-committee (four meetings a year online)
- Ad hoc availability as matters arise (by telephone)
- Participate in one strategy away day each year (on a Saturday, usually held in January)
- Commit to the Board of Trustees for at least three years

Letchworth Foodbank is seeking an inspiring and strategic Chair of the Board to lead the next chapter of our growth.
We have a clear mission: the prevention or relief of poverty in Letchworth, Hitchin and Baldock in particular, but not exclusively, by providing emergency food supplies and financial support to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations working to relieve poverty.
Receiving donations and grants of over £200,000 per annum, the Foodbank distributes over 40 tonnes of food and £50,000 of food vouchers every year to those that need it most.
Our strategy is not to stand still, but to increase our reach and impact, and we require a Chair that shares our ambitions and will help drive a clear strategy forwards with the Trustees, working closely with the Foodbank Director.
What are we looking for?

A Chair with knowledge of and commitment to tackling and relieving poverty.

Experience in leadership, governance, and board-level roles (charity or voluntary sector preferred).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and unite people.

An understanding of the challenges faced by small charities and grassroots organisations.

A strategic thinker with sound judgment and an inclusive leadership style.

An understanding of safeguarding, equality, and community engagement principles.

Experience of financial management and a broad understanding of charity finance issues.

What will you be doing?

Our core Befriending Project supports people who are socially isolated in Ealing and Hounslow. They may have a physical or sensory disability, or they may have mild dementia, and are sometimes housebound.
This is an opportunity to become a Befriender.
On successful completion of the training, Befrienders are matched with someone who lives close to them.
They make a weekly 1-2 hour visit to the client's home, where they might stay in and chat over a cup of tea or, where possible, go out for a walk together, visit a cafe or undertake a local activity.
These visits make such a difference for the client, but volunteering with BEfriend not only enriches the lives of those who are isolated, it also offers immense personal rewards.
As a Befriender, you’ll get to know inspirational people with fascinating stories, develop new skills and be part of a supportive team that values compassion and connection.
This role is for UK residents only, and applicants are required to live in or very near the boroughs of Ealing or Hounslow.
After applying, volunteers will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for and organised by BEfriend).
The check is carried out as part of our safeguarding policy to protect our clients who are ‘vulnerable people’
