In this role you will:
Work face to face with young people and support them to achieve their goals
Provide a welcoming and safe environment to young people, stakeholders and visitors by ensuring that house rules and safeguarding procedures are followed
Help young people overcome difficult circumstances and achieve independence
Liaise with multiple agencies to ensure effective communication across the service and externally including social work teams, YOS, health and other statutory services and voluntary agencies

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the welfare of customers providing emotional and practical support to customers who are in distress, in crisis or require medical assistance such as emergency first aid or the intervention of medical professionals

Tower Hamlets Learning Disability Service provides support to 15 customers all who have their own room with shared facilities. There are two sites: Old Ford Road and Vulcan Square. The role includes enabling vulnerable people living in a variety of different tenures to manage their tenancies/licences, supporting customers with personal care, medication and moving towards greater independence within the community by providing a flexible and individually tailored support pack. Support is provided from 7am-11pm, with sleep-in at both sites, and customers receive varying levels of one-to-one support hours.

- Ensure that all Hostel residents are treated with respect, contribute to a positive atmosphere within the Hostel, and promote uptake of meaningful activity as appropriate
- Support key workers by talking to clients who are more likely to be seen at night, but do not undertake specific pieces of key work with SPEAR Hostel residents or otherwise offer any advice relating to resettlement or benefits
- Maintain a safe and appropriate physical environment for staff and service users, in conjunction with the Landlords and Health and Safety Representatives
- Relevant recent experience, either paid or voluntary, working with homeless people or rough sleepers, or people with mental health and/or substance misuse
- A knowledge of the issues affecting single homeless people
- The ability to work with clients who may display challenging behaviour or with high support needs

Peripatetic Night Concierge/Assistant - Homelessness

We are seeking people to fill a range of Night Concierge/Assistant roles in Hackney, Havering and Newham and join our East London homeless and accommodation services in providing support to Rough sleepers.
SHP (Single Homeless Project) is one of London’s leading homelessness prevention charities and a dynamic and growing organisation changing 8,000 lives every year across London - from supporting people in crisis, to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment.
The services provide 24hr cover within a range of settings e.g. hotels, HMO’s and hostels. Therefore, waking night cover is needed from Monday – Sunday, in order to ensure there are staff on site at all times to support clients. The role will allow you to experience a variety of different settings and gain many learning experiences to develop your knowledge and career in this field.
In your role, you will be working alone with a requirement to monitor people's entry into the service’s buildings and monitor the CCTV. You will also have access to the on-call manager for the duration of your shift, should you need additional guidance and support. Your role will form a pivotal position within the services at night, as you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of clients, dealing with emergencies, carrying out H&S checks and reporting or handing over any concerns.
You will either be working on a rota for a fixed period of time or floating around the different services, when needed for waking night cover. As this is a waking night shift role, you will need to manage your time effectively and remain awake for the duration of the shift.
To be successful you will have:
- The ability and confidence to work alone without direct supervision
- A non-judgemental attitude and the ability to engage and relate positively, to people from a range of backgrounds and cultures
- The ability to appropriately de-escalate challenging or difficult behaviour
- An understanding of Health & Safety at work and the likely issues that could occur in a residential building
- The ability to use your initiative and make reasoned and quick decisions
You will also be confident in using computers to record daily logs accurately. Reliability and flexibility are also required for this role.
