Job Purpose
This role is responsible for managing BSR’s day-to-day financial activities, leading on financial planning and reporting, and supporting financial governance. The Finance Manager acts as a trusted business partner to colleagues across the organisation, improving financial understanding and supporting business delivery.
As a values-led and high-performing organisation, our finance team looks for innovations in our financial operations, using data to make decisions and measure impact. The team work collaboratively with colleagues, empowering them to make excellent financial decisions and demonstrate longer-term thinking. This is a great time to join our team, as we’re looking to further improve our processes and management level reporting ahead of the next strategy period. We’re maturing as an organisation in terms of our financial strategy, and you’ll be able to bring your experience and new ideas about how the finance team can best support the organisation to ensure we make a difference for people with rheumatic conditions.
While you will need a strong background in finance to meet the technical requirements of the role, as a learning organisation we recruit for potential, not perfection. This might be your first management role, or you might not have worked in the charity sector before – but if you are able to do the role, we are happy to provide you with the support and training you need to succeed. This could include supporting you to complete a professional accounting qualification if you don’t already have one. Alternatively, you might be an experienced Finance Manager, looking for a new challenge or to join a flexible organisation which aligns with your own values.
Main responsibilities
Day-to-day financial operations
- Manage the financial activities of the charity and trading subsidiary (BSR Enterprises)
- Ensure accuracy and efficiency in the accounts
- Process payroll and administer the pension scheme
- Ensure compliance with HMRC, including monitoring VAT threshold, tax and gift aid, and undertake necessary returns where necessary
- Be the main contact with and management of, the day-to-day operations of the Charity’s banking arrangements, in line with authorisation requirements
Financial planning
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget
- Produce the monthly management accounts
- Maintain cashflow forecasting looking forward at least 12 months
Business partnering
- Work with the COO to improve financial understanding across the organisation
- Train, support and develop budget holders
- Support business delivery and development
Financial reporting
- Provide financial reports and analysis to the senior management team and Trustees
- Attend quarterly Finance and Risk Committee meetings
- Complete required statutory reporting
- Prepare year end schedules and act as main point of contact for financial auditors
Financial governance
- Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place
- Identify and mitigate financial risks
Finance function development
- Develop finance policies, processes and systems to reflect best practice and improve efficiency
- Manage, support and develop the Finance Officer
- Develop and deliver a workplan for the finance team in line with BSR’s strategy and values
Person Specification
- Accounting qualification or part qualification (for example, AAT, ACCA or CIMA) or equivalent knowledge gained through experience

We have an exciting opportunity to join our sector-leading Community Fundraising team as a Community Fundraising Executive.
We’re an ambitious charity with a bold mission and fantastic culture. As a key member of the Community Fundraising team, you’ll work alongside the Community Fundraising Managers, Executives and Co-ordinators to achieve the exciting growth plans in our new 3 -year fundraising strategy.
In this role, you’ll take the lead on our DIY walking and cycling fundraising activity, which currently raises over £750k each year. What we want from you
We’re looking for someone with knowledge and experience of working in a fundraising environment – ideally within a community or events context. You’ll have a proven track record of delivering brilliant supporter experiences, building genuine relationships and stewarding fundraisers through their events. You’ll understand the importance of meeting supporter needs and how to keep them inspired and connected to the cause.
You’ll bring excellent organisational skills and experience of planning and managing projects with multiple stakeholders, making sure we hit our KPIs and maximise fundraising income. With knowledge of how to plan, deliver and evaluate marketing activity, including digital campaigns on Meta, you’ll be comfortable finding ways to engage new supporters and keep them motivated.
A forward-thinker and natural problem solver, you won’t be afraid to use your initiative and analytical skills to spot opportunities for improvement and help shape new ideas. You’ll have experience developing, or supporting the development of, annual fundraising plans and budgets, and delivering against these to meet targets.
Clear, motivational communication comes naturally to you, whether it’s writing to supporters, updating colleagues or reporting on results. You’ll also be confident using databases to keep accurate records, analyse data and share insights that help us grow.

Founded in 1977, Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) is a registered charity (1067908) and accredited museum, based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The Park is an established leading international destination for sculpture, inspiring everyone to enjoy and engage with art, nature, creativity, and our shared humanity. YSP presents work by world-renowned artists, including Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Damien Hirst and Elisabeth Frink. Since opening, YSP has worked with over 1,000 artists from more than 40 countries.
YSP is set within a Grade II listed 500-acre historic landscape, registered by Historic England for its special interest and national significance and featuring woods, lakes, gardens and parkland. Ninety sculptures are sited in the landscape, with additional changing exhibitions, displays and events across three galleries and in the open air.

Overview of the Role
As YSP approaches its 50th anniversary it is at a pivotal moment in its history. The Trustees and Senior Leadership Team are developing proposals to secure the financial future of YSP for the next 50 years. The Head of Development will play a key part in realising that ambition by supporting a range of activities including fundraising for capital projects to nurture and grow our supporter base.

The NGO was founded in 1993, as the UK network for organisations working in international development. They unite and support a diverse network of over 365 civil society organisations to help eradicate global poverty, inequality and injustice. This role is offered on an interim part-time 12 months contract basis paying a salary of circa £85,000 (0.4 FTE) pro rata with flexible remote working arrangements and occasional meetings at their London office.
The post-holder will support the organisation's secure the next phase of their large grants and to identify and engage with new and existing funders to diversify their funding sources. They will combine coordination with building strong relationships and supporting the organisation's managers and leaders to secure their funding into the future. The post holder will lead an informal team of staff drawn from across the organisation and work closely with the CEO and Directors to establish and maintain relationships with key donors. They will also play a key role in upskilling and developing staff capacity to fundraise within the organisation and coordinating their efforts.

The role
Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 per annum, depending on experience

The role and your key responsibilities
As an Account Manager, your role is to make sure that all partners in your area make the most out of the Unifrog platform. You’ll build and maintain excellent working relationships with your partner schools and colleges, and provide expert guidance on how to embed the platform across all year groups.
You will cover your own area of the country with occasional travel to your partner schools and colleges (on average 1-2 days per week). Please note you will need to be based in Newcastle (or surrounding areas) for this role.
