You will be from a grant funding background within private, public or charitable sector. You will have an understanding of nature conservation grounded by strong grant writing experience. We would expect an understanding of how grant funding works and the application process and that you are comfortable with working to strict deadlines. You will be a great communicator, with a personable style who can work with many different people across the wonderful variety of geography, business development, and activities of the Wildlife Trust.
You enjoy exploring new opportunities and problem solving. This is a new role which will evolve following your appointment so you should be excited by the flexibility and opportunities to take an innovative approach.

As Director of Fundraising, you will grow sustainable income, strengthen supporter relationships and maximise lifetime value – enabling the League to protect wildlife, influence policy, and run campaigns that bring an end to cruel sports.
You will lead a high-performing team, champion innovation, and embed insight-led decision-making to ensure fundraising excellence across all channels.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Developing and leading fundraising strategy.
· Overseeing a wide-ranging portfolio including individual giving, philanthropy, legacy and in memoriam fundraising, events, raffles, appeals, merchandise and supporter engagement.
· Strengthening supporter relationships.
· Contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation.
· Developing and managing budgets
Who You Are:
We need a strategic-thinking and inspirational leader with a passion for animal welfare, who possesses:
· Significant experience in a senior fundraising leadership role within a campaigning or cause-driven charity.
· Experience of developing and implementing integrated fundraising strategies.
· Proven experience of managing teams and growing income.
· Excellent communication and influencing skills.
· Experience in setting and managing significant budgets and income targets.

Travelling across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire, you’ll bring your passion to life at events, nature reserves, and visitor centres using a fully-branded gazebo and interactive displays. You’ll design and deliver a programme of engaging wildlife-themed talks and walks, support flagship events like our AGM, and contribute to both public and corporate engagement. Working closely with colleagues, you’ll help develop systems and internal resources that ensure consistent branding and powerful messaging, boosting supporter engagement, generating vital income, and strengthening our connection with the communities in our three counties.
The main objectives of the role are to:
- Inspire and engage the public by promoting the mission and work of the Trust.
- Generate leads from public interactions, guiding them into our supporter journeys and recruiting new members and supporters for the Wildlife Trust for BCN.
- Support the Corporate Partnership team by participating in regular events, work parties, walks, and talks.
- Work with the Supporter Engagement Manager and the Communications Team to review and update the membership sections of the Trust website.
Please note that this role will require lone working and some weekend and evening working.

Each day you will travel to different venues, set up an attractive fundraising stand, and spend the day actively engaging with members of the public, spreading awareness about our conservation efforts and inspiring individuals to become lifelong members.

Severn & Wye Nature is an alliance of 14 environmental NGOs working across the Severn, Wye and Warwickshire Avon river catchments. As part of a major nature recovery initiative, we’re working to restore wetlands, create new woodlands and restore floodplain meadows. We partner with farmers, environmental experts and businesses to deliver shared goals for nature across a vast and changing landscape.
Following a two-year development phase, we are now ready to move into delivery, building strategic nature recovery programmes across the catchment, and securing investment from public and private sector organisations at a level that will transform the scale of our collective impact.
About you
We need an experienced, capable programme manager to lead and develop this ambitious partnership. You will require clarity of strategic thinking, excellent relationship and partnership management skills, substantial business planning experience, and very strong organisational skills. Above all, we are looking for someone who is passionate about nature and who will inspire and support partners across the region to enable its recovery at scale.
About the job
This is a two year fixed-term contract but could be extended if progress is good. We are offering a salary of £41-45k, depending on your skills, 25 days annual leave increasing to 30, a 7% pension contribution and a range of other benefits.
