About the people we support
The individuals you’ll support have recently been discharged from mental health hospitals and are often navigating complex challenges, including homelessness, trauma, and limited access to support networks. Many are in a vulnerable state, adjusting to life outside of hospital while managing mental health conditions, substance use, or social isolation. Your role will be to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support that helps them stabilise, regain confidence, and take the first steps toward independent living, all within a focused six-week resettlement period.

About the Role

You will provide advice and support to women who have experienced domestic abuse in a refuge setting, across two sites. You will carry out risk and needs assessments, develop support plans and carry out key work with women survivors. You should have a minimum of two years’ experience of working with this or a similar client group. An in depth understanding of the needs of women and children from a diverse background is essential.

As part of both roles, one of the job posts will be located in one refuge, with the other job post located across three refuges.

About You

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

You will have experience of managing risk and following case management procedures to meet the needs of the client group, and the ability to work with women to help them to understand their needs, risk assess, develop safety plan and support them in linking with other agencies.

You will have a working knowledge of the available legal remedies, housing and welfare benefits, as well as experience of providing workshops.

Outside of this, you will have excellent administrative and time management skills and the ability to effectively manage a caseload.

Our advice service provides over 2,000 kinship carers a year with easy access to expert advice and support to empower them to:

We’re developing our advice service and investing in our team to make sure that we can support more kinship carers effectively. You’ll be part of a supportive team who keep kinship carers at the heart of their service.

The role of Advice Worker is pivotal in supporting kinship carers to access the right information, services and entitlements.

In this role, you’ll provide generalist advice and information to kinship carers in line with kinship carers’ preferred methods. Often, this will be by telephone, including taking live calls on our advice line, and by email. You will also need to respond to enquiries using video conferencing, text and other channels as we develop the service.

The type of person we’re looking for:

You will either have significant experience of providing advice to individuals on their rights, or you will have significant experience of providing support to kinship carers.

We will provide the training you need to undertake the role, as well as opportunities for development and progression.

You will need to be resilient and able to remain calm in difficult situations. You will have an eye for detail to identify the key issues requiring advice and the relevant legislation, guidance or practice. You will be firm, sensitive and professional in your approach and will be clear and assertive as you support kinship carers to get their needs met quickly and effectively.

The team work remotely, but there is the option to work from our office in London.

Key responsibilities include:  

Advice provision:

· Respond to enquiries through a range of incoming channels. This includes taking calls on our advice line, as well as responding to enquiries submitted through our website, via internal referral or other channels.

· Provide high quality advice and information to kinship carers on their rights, entitlements and responsibilities in relation to: welfare benefits, local authority allowances, support from children’s services, kinship care arrangements and options, housing, sources of educational, parenting and legal support and other issues that may be required.

· Address all safeguarding concerns in line with policy.

· Make referrals and signpost to other services as necessary.

· Where appropriate, provide additional advice or support to enable the client to take action or undertake follow-up action on behalf of the client to move the case on.

· Facilitate access to our advice service for people with diverse needs.

Service quality, consistency and data management:

· Respond to all enquiries in line with Kinship’s advice service framework, standards and performance targets.

· Ensure independence, impartiality and confidentiality when dealing with kinship carers.

Professional and service development:

· Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and guidance.

· Support continuous development and improvement of the service.

Essential knowledge, abilities, skills and experience include:

a) Minimum of 2 years recent experience of delivering advice work on social welfare issues (e.g. benefits, housing, education or social care) to members of the public.

OR:

b) Minimum of 2 years recent experience of providing support to kinship carers.

· Experience of working with socially excluded or marginalised people and their

The 999 Club has stood on the corner of Deptford Broadway for more than 30 years, working with and supporting the local community. Our focus now is on people who are street homeless, rough sleeping or unhoused and those who have no recourse to public funds. As the 999 Club, people who use our services are our members.

The Gateway

Our day centre, The Gateway, is open five days a week and provides a welcoming, safe and friendly space where our members can spend time away from their usual situation and sort out practicalities like getting laundry done, taking a shower, charging their phone and having something to eat. It’s where our Intervention Team are often based as part of their work, empowering our members.

The Intervention Team

Working alongside the Essential Services Team and an amazing team of volunteers the Intervention Team provide triage, assessment, holistic progression planning, advocacy and support for members of the Gateway, identifying and addressing their immediate housing situation as well as wider social, health and wellbeing issues with the ultimate aim of them finding a pathway out of homelessness.

Islington Refuge Service provides emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and sexual violence. About the Role

As a Sessional Play Worker you will be involved in the planning and delivery of a variety of sessions and activities for children and young people at the refuge. This includes listening to children’s ideas to design services around their needs, choices, and aspirations. You will support and involve children in activities which are playful, stimulating, and enjoyable, while promoting their wellbeing and encouraging them to take an active role during the play sessions.

You will work alongside the Family Support Worker, encouraging all children to take part and have as much fun as possible whilst helping to develop children's learning, well-being, and social skills. To be an effective member of our wonderful team the successful applicant will possess excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic and creative

About You

We are looking for individuals with experience of working with children and who are passionate about play and dedicated to providing a welcoming and safe space for all children - supervising the children and ensuring their safety at all times.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on children as well as practical experience of working with children and within a team. You will also need to demonstrate a proven ability to work on your own initiative and under supervision. A minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in childcare/play/youthwork/sports/coaching or creative arts is desirable. Livingstone House is a 24 hour staffed 92 bed mix gender hostel, which provides short term supported housing for single homeless vulnerable people with Low to Medium support needs. Look ahead provides the support function and Riverside provides the housing management and night concierge. The Service provides on average 5 hours of weekly support to customers who reside in the hostel with the aim to provide them with the tools to move on within the community and live independently. On occasions, we may need support within our scattered sites based in Brent.

The Shift pattern of this role consist: 8am -4pm and 1.30pm - 9pm. Over a 7 day rota with 2 days off with weekend working

What you'll do:
- To provide support to peers and management, being flexible and responsive and help bespoke support for each customer's abilities and aspirations
- To implement the principles of personalisation, as part of a local service plan.
- To help support your colleagues to maximise the customers' independence.
- To motivate customers to access educational and training opportunities and to integrate fully in the community
- To support up to 14 customers to sustain their tenancies
- To promote customer involvement in all aspects of your work
- To take on a project that will help assist the service move forward
