This role provides proactive administrative support to the Bishop of Ripon. The Bishop's PA represents the Bishop's Office and is often the first point of contact.
The postholder will manage the Bishop's Office and ensure that work for the Bishop of Ripon is completed to a high standard. Much of the work is highly confidential, so the postholder must be able to deal with this discreetly and sensitively. The PA is a vital part of the local Ripon Area team but must be able to work independently and use initiative as necessary. Commitment to supporting the Bishop's ministry is essential, and a good understanding of the Christian Faith and Anglican worship is helpful.
Daily tasks will include prioritising mail and messages, organising the Bishop's diary, drafting replies and/or briefing papers as appropriate, producing communication and paperwork around the Bishop's appointments (including church visits and clergy meetings) promptly, attending and arranging events and meetings and in general ensuring that the Bishop is properly resourced and supported in his/her work. As well as overseeing the Ripon Episcopal Area, the Bishop has some diocesan responsibilities, which necessitate travel around the Diocese, and national responsibilities which include travel to London and elsewhere in the country. The planning of the Bishop's diary will reflect the travel involved.
The PA will have key working relationships with other senior staff in the Diocese and particularly those in the Ripon Area. The PA will work closely with the Archdeacon of Richmond and Craven and their PA. The postholder will also be in frequent contact with the Area and Assistant Area Deans and other Area Officers. As the Bishop is often out of the office, the post-holder should be a self-starter and capable of using their initiative with regard to planning and managing their workload.
There may be the possibility of some home-working - details to be discussed with the post holder.
Principal Duties
- Manage the Bishop's diary, appointments, travel and event logistics
- Plan the annual meeting cycle for various committees and individuals
- Manage the approval system for Lay Eucharistic Ministers, including the renewals every five years.
- Anticipate and act proactively on information that comes into the office (via email, phone or letter) particularly where this relates to diary and deadline matters.
- Ensure that appropriate matters are brought to the attention of the Bishop
- Arrange Confirmations, Licensings and other church services and handle related administration.
- Manage annual review appointments (MDRs) for clergy, ensuring that the necessary paperwork is issued and received within appropriate timeframes.
- Manage the 'New in Post' system alongside the Archdeacon's PA
- Administer the clergy appointments process within the Ripon Area, working closely with the Archdeacon, the Archdeacon's PA, Patrons and parish representatives. Ensure that all legal requirements are met.
- Managing meetings for PTO applications.
- Prepare materials for meetings; to occasionally attend and take minutes.
- Oversee the Bishop's expenses and local budget, ensuring that accurate records are kept and returned to the Bishop of Leeds Financial Officer monthly.
- Organise and maintain general and confidential filing systems, including clergy files.
- Manage the Bishop's Office, including ordering stationery, dealing with phone systems, etc

- Represent the Bishop's Office with professionalism, discretion and pastoral sensitivity.
- Welcome visitors to the Bishop's Office, ensuring that they are dealt with in a polite and courteous manner.

Essential
Experience, knowledge and skills:

About the Role

Key Responsibilities
CRM Management & Development

Introduction
Afield is a brand new charity responding to environmental injustice. We do this by working with communities to rewild disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods; and by supporting artists to undertake ecological research. This exciting and demanding role will be right at the heart of making everything happen!
Objectives
You will work alongside Afield’s two co-founders to define and run the urban wilding and arts grants programmes, including managing the cohort of grantees. We are looking for dynamism, energy and experience of grant management to help us launch the first round of grants and a support programme.
Responsibilities
Working closely with the two co-founders you will set up the arts research and wilding programmes. This will include launching and running opencall and selection processes, and the cohort support programmes. Once established you will lead subsequent programmes, and plan for future cohorts. You will be:

Context
Q:alliance provides support, information, and representation for LGBTQ+ young people in Bedford, drawing on our wider experience delivering established services across Milton Keynes for the last 50 years.
We have detailed knowledge of the issues and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and organisations locally, and it is our goal to create more safe spaces and resources to ensure the LGBTQ+ community in Bedford is visible, well represented, and supported.
Scope
This is a newly created role within our Bedford services, delivering Q:alliance’s established youth support model developed in Milton Keynes and shaping pathways and support that respond to local need in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.
You will manage a one-to-one caseload of support for LGBTQ+ young people, while building relationships with schools and developing a collaborative schools’ network informed by young people’s insights. You will also develop and deliver LGBTQ+ inclusion training for teachers, education staff, and youth workers. This work will contribute to safe, affirming environments that strengthen resilience, wellbeing, and mental health.
You will work closely with the Youth Services Manager and youth teams across our service areas, building on existing Q:alliance provision in Bedford, where a dedicated youth team already leads on LGBTQ+ youth group delivery.
The role includes outreach across Bedfordshire’s urban and rural communities, supporting young people who may experience increased isolation due to limited access to LGBTQ+-affirming spaces.
You will work collaboratively with the Youth Services Manager to agree outreach and engagement targets, contributing to effective monitoring and reporting systems to ensure robust evidence of impact.
What you’ll bring to the team
This role is a key opportunity for Q:alliance to grow our work in Bedford, build local relationships, and better understand and respond to the needs of LGBTQ+ young people across the area. You will play a central role in shaping a new service, reaching young people who may not yet be connected to support, and helping both staff and the board of trustees develop a strong, place-based understanding of LGBTQ+ youth experiences in Bedford.
You will act as a first point of contact for schools, colleges, and youth settings in Bedford, building trusted relationships and establishing a collaborative network of school and college leads. You will share insights gathered through this work with the wider Q:alliance team, helping to strengthen our responses to local need and inform the development and sustainability of services, including future funding.
You will help ensure continuity of support between schools, our support spaces and Q:alliance’s wider youth service provision.
Main Responsibilities
· Networking – Support teachers, education staff and youth workers to access resources, implement inclusive learning environments and provide support for LGBTQ+ young people in their settings. Develop a network of school representatives to provide peer-support on shifting needs, priorities, and situations in a local and national context.
· Data capture and intelligence - Support Q;alliance’s commitment to sustaining a contemporary data and monitoring mechanism, guaranteeing we can deliver thorough evaluations of our services and competent feedback to our funders and stakeholders on the efficacy of our work. Analyse local intelligence directly from LGBTQ+ youth communities and use this to co-produce plans with young people to ensure our youth services are engaging and meeting needs.
· Support, information and empowerment – develop and implement resources for 1:1 education and resilience work with LGBTQ+ young people, provide support and advocacy for young people, ensuring effective signposting to relevant services and collaboration with parents, guardians, teachers and education staff where appropriate.
· Innovation – work with the Youth Services Manager, school representatives and young people to innovate a schools accreditation system that will acknowledge and cultivate schools’ competence to provide safe spaces and support for LGBTQ+ young people.
· Stakeholder and community engagement – Forge and support enduring relationships with key partners, strengthening our commitment to building an alliance of cross-sector compassionate advocates for the LGBTQ+ community in its diverse forms.
· Education – Plan, develop and deliver positive and engaging classroom workshops and school assemblies to a wide range of young people, ensuring key messages are inclusive of diverse perspectives, including those from black and minoritized communities.
· Training - Develop and deliver training for teachers, education staff and youth workers with the aim of improving the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth communities and the capacity of those with the power to assist in this endeavour.

The Innovation, Development Fundraising Manager is a new role within the charity. The purpose of this position is to work with the Senior Leadership Team and other staff members to:
· Help develop and fund new activities in our existing services.
· Through the development and modelling of pilot projects, help the SLT with the implementation of our three-year strategy and seek funding through trust and grant foundations for the delivery of the above.
· Collaborate with the Chief Executive to identify and apply for new funding streams that support the work and growth of the charity and build on our current service delivery.
You will seek to develop and diversify the base of supporters and to achieve fundraising targets working with the CEO and SLT, supported by the board of trustees. We want to continue with our local services contracted income but also to develop other income streams, expand our supporter networks and build our sustainability for the future.
The successful candidate will also develop and maintain appropriate relationships with trusts, foundations and their representatives, ensuring the highest quality of stewardship and cultivation of a proactive relationship-based approach to seeking new funding opportunities.
Working as part of a small leadership team and, reporting to the Chief Executive, you’ll capitalise on our success in partnering with some large addiction treatment providers. These have delivered innovative approaches to recovery across London.
With this backdrop, we will look to you to develop and deliver successful plans to diversify and optimise our income as well as developing the tools, processes and internal expertise to ensure sustainability.
The post holder would have the opportunity of working with a passionate, dedicated small central team, with a positive team spirit. There is a high level of commitment to developing this new area of income generation from management and trustees providing the post holder with the opportunity to excel and meet strategic targets.
Responsibilities and main duties:
o Work closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and others in the leadership team to develop and spearhead delivery of a funding and financial plan that will enable delivery of our mission, strategy 2026-29 and delivering our financial strategic objectives.
o Proactively research and develop opportunities from trusts and foundations, developing a funding database and pipeline.
o Working with the CEO and service managers, initializing, and developing projects, producing compelling funding proposals and grant applications, initiating prospect meetings, and confidently pitching new funders to successfully convert prospects to funders or donors.
o Work with the leadership team and local service managers, and volunteers to fundraise local community support activity in the areas we operate in.
o Explore and test new fundraising approaches (such as events and corporate) to further grow and diversify income,
o Research and implement the introduction of a suitable CRM system to maintain accurate records of all fundraising activity (including contracted income), providing high quality reports to the leadership team, CEO and trustees, and to develop a data led approach to future fundraising.
o Manage and monitor ongoing funder reporting, ensuring that effective records of grant/funding bids and their conditions are kept and strictly adhered to by project leads, and that interim and end of project reporting is completed to a high standard, consulting with project leads where appropriate.
o Build and sustain strong relationships with a broad range of funding individuals and organizations, using a wide range of appropriate stewardship approaches to develop and retain their support for Build on Belief.
o Stay informed of existing and new fundraising legislation and ensure all fundraising activities are compliant with the Code of Fundraising Practice and all other statutory obligations, maintaining and communicating internal policies as appropriate.
o Actively instill an organizational culture of fundraising, ensuring that everyone in the organization, including our trustees, understands and contributes to our fundraising strategy.
o Develop a good working knowledge of the charity’s activities, our approaches to addiction and recovery and some of the wider evidence base to tackle addiction and dependency to represent BoB authoritatively to supporters and external audiences.
Experience
o Experience and proven record of soliciting, managing, and securing income from trusts and foundations, corporates, and/or major donors.
o Experience of developing successful grant applications and proposals for support to trusts and foundations.
o Digital fundraising fluency including experience of using and/or developing a CRM system to support fundraising activities and understanding of digital fundraising approaches.
Knowledge
o Strong understanding of the current UK charitable funding landscape including excellent knowledge of charitable grant giving organizations.
