Galop is looking for an experienced group work facilitator to deliver high quality group sessions for LGBT survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and LGBT young people.
 
Our recovery group work offers practical support and psychoeducation to support clients in their recovery journey from abuse and violence. This role will also involve providing group prevention support to LGBT young people focusing on identity, community and healthy relationships. These groups will be co facilitated and be run both online and in-person.
 
In this role, you will complete assessments for clients referred into group work and offer a space to clients to discuss their options for support. You will work collaboratively with other services to create networks and referral pathways through outreach. You will also be required contribute to the creation and refinement of Galop’s group work materials as well as ensuring all materials are kept up to date and in line with best practice recommendations.
 
You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while remaining boundaried and mindful of self-care. Your work will enable LGBT people to feel supported, heard and empowered in the face of abuse and violence.
 
You will work within Galop’s Advocacy and Support team supporting LGBT people facing abuse or violence. You will have an in depth understanding of groupwork facilitation and the spectrum of violence and abuse that LGBT people can face, including the causes, impact and barriers to accessing services. You will be skilled in assessing and navigating safeguarding concerns and have experience of working with both adult and children's safeguarding procedures.
 
Location: Galop’s offices are located in London. This role will be hybrid working and will include home working, working from the office and delivering groups in the community.
Hours: Part Time (24 hours per week)

About the role

This is a fixed-term opportunity for an experienced Charity Shop Manager to join our team at our Exeter-based charity.

This new role will combine providing support and/or absence cover to our existing shops, along with getting involved in other opportunities for growth and development across the retail team (e.g. volunteering). Working in the shops may involve working to support the shop manager, or stepping in for them at short notice (and quickly getting to grips with their shop, processes, staff, volunteers and customers). This will be balanced according to business needs.

The nature of this role means that you will need to be capable of both leading or being part of a team consisting of shop assistants and volunteers.

There will also be times when you will be working on your own or with our Head of Retail and Enterprise at our Exeter base. The most important thing is that you will be helping us to achieve and exceed business targets for sales, growth and profits.

You will be based either at one of our charity shops, or at our main base in Exeter (to be discussed at interview).

About you

We’re looking for someone with prior management experience in charity retail, and demonstrable knowledge of the sector and its challenges. You will be self-motivated, commercially aware with a creative eye for displays, and constantly seeking new business opportunities. You will be comfortable with both acting as shop manager, and supporting the existing shop team, depending on the situation.

About the opportunity

We're in a fantastic position to have recently partnered with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) for an evaluation of our programmes. 

We are now recruiting for a Programme Coordinator for our schools in Dorset (Sturminster Newton, Ferndown, Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury).

• The South West Programme Coordinator oversees a caseload of up to seven partner schools. They manage the logistics and organisation of each school’s tutoring programme, working closely with the schools and pupils and managing the pool of volunteer tutors. They attend the weekly tutoring sessions at each school, as well as overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring, always working to deliver a great impact.
• The South West Programme Coordinator supports the recruitment of volunteer tutors, manages the tutor sign up process, develops relationships with schools including their Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers, collects data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, and works with other internal teams on business development opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. This includes working closely to manage all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; regularly attending weekly tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, using data to reliably assess programme performance.
• Responsible for overseeing the quality of tutoring, engaging in quality assurance processes, and providing feedback to volunteer tutors to ensure effective and impactful delivery. Provide regular check-ins with tutors to ensure ample support and guidance is given to provide targeted tuition to pupils.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in partner schools, including members of the Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers. Supporting the Programme Manager with strategies to retain and sustain school partnerships.
• Update and accurately maintain Action Tutoring’s database, including collecting timely data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, such as attendance records, baseline and interim assessments and pupil surveys. Reporting regularly on key performance indicators to key stakeholders and using them to enhance programme delivery. Work with the Programme Manager on business development, approaching new schools that might be interested in working with Action Tutoring.
• Proactively report to the Programme Manager on the details of Action Tutoring’s operations in their partner schools.

Job Purpose

To provide confidential, accessible, and high-quality counselling support to students aged 16–18 and apprentices at Ada, the National College for Digital Skills. The counsellor will play a key role in promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive mental health to enable students to thrive academically, socially, and personally. The role supports the college’s mission to empower a diverse generation of digital pioneers by removing emotional barriers to learning and contributing to a safe and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Student Support

• Provide one-to-one counselling sessions to students and apprentices, including those experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress, trauma, and/or personal issues.
• Deliver short-term, goal-focused therapeutic interventions based on students’ needs and referral pathways.
• Maintain appropriate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR). Using the College’s CPOMS systems to record sessions.

2. Collaboration and Safeguarding

• Work closely with the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead, to assess risk and provide timely interventions.
• Attend and contribute to safeguarding meetings, case conferences, and strategy discussions where appropriate.
• Make referrals to external mental health and support services when specialist or long-term intervention is required.
• Be a visible and approachable member of the learner services team, building trusted relationships with staff and students.

3. Promotion of Wellbeing

• Support the delivery of a proactive mental health strategy that reduces stigma and encourages help-seeking behaviours. 
• Facilitate a weekly well – being sessions with the safeguarding team.
• Contribute to college-wide initiatives, workshops, and campaigns that promote positive mental health, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
• Help create a psychologically safe, inclusive space for under-represented and neurodiverse learners.

4. Professional Practice

• Adhere to ethical guidelines set by a recognised professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP) and uphold standards of best practice.
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and CPD to maintain and develop professional skills and knowledge.
• Evaluate the impact and outcomes of counselling provision using appropriate tools and data.
• Provide monthly intervention and support reports to the Assistant Principal Learner Services and College DSL.
• Work closely with the College Safeguarding and Apprenticeship team.

Essential:

• Qualified counsellor or psychotherapist (minimum Level 4 diploma or equivalent).
• Registered member of a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, NCS).

Their focus to 2030 for education and youth work is to build a bridge between their established and hugely successful delivery to early years and primary aged children, and their emerging work with emerging adults aged 18-13. Pay & Reward Framework

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values.  We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people. 

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay. 

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours.  More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
