Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist care and support for babies, children, and young people who are life-limited or life-threatened. When time is short, every moment is precious. Acorns helps children and families fill the time they have together with love, fun, and laughter to create lasting memories.

Palliative care for children aged 0-18 is delivered at Acorns’ hospices in Birmingham, Worcester, and Walsall, as well as in family homes or elsewhere in the community. Their holistic, tailored approach meets each child’s clinical, emotional, cultural, religious, and spiritual needs. Supporting over 750 children and nearly 1,000 families annually, Acorns is a vital lifeline for families across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire during unimaginably difficult times.

This is a brilliant opportunity to take on a high-performing team at a time when Acorns is really moving forward. Supported by strong internal resources, the Head of Public Fundraising will drive growth across Individual Giving, Legacy, In-Memoriam, Digital and Prize-led Giving in the context of a highly collaborative, whole-organisation approach to fundraising.

The immediate focus will be on making the most of existing programmes, strengthening audience insight, and getting the team ready to play a major part in the organisation-wide appeal launching in 2025.

Growing Individual Giving income from £1.6 million to £2 million over the next two years will be a central priority, alongside expanding digital and prize-led fundraising and sharpening supporter journeys across the board.

As Head of Public Fundraising, you will: 

• Develop and implement a data-driven strategy for all areas of public fundraising to meet growth targets.

• Lead the Individual Giving portfolio, ensuring growth across direct mail, face-to-face acquisition, mid-value development, and telemarketing.

• Oversee the successful delivery of cash appeals, ensuring they meet both income and ROI targets.

• Drive the expansion of digital fundraising and prize-led giving, including managing the growing digital fundraising portfolio and prize-led initiatives.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Marketing & Communications, to ensure campaigns are well integrated and aligned with the overall fundraising strategy.

• Manage and develop a high-performing team, providing leadership, coaching, and clear performance metrics.

• Collaborate with senior leadership and internal stakeholders to drive the strategic direction of public fundraising.

About you

The role needs someone who’s as comfortable setting long-term plans as they are getting hands-on when needed, whether that’s developing appeals, working with agencies or supporting new product ideas. Collaboration across fundraising, care and supporter engagement teams will be essential to making this happen and building an even stronger supporter-first culture at Acorns.

The Charity is an independent funder and our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments, therefore we do not fund raise, our client has distributed over £298 million in grants to a range of organisations that seek to promote the life chances of children and young people through Education, with around £15 million in grants distributed each year. We are delighted to be working with the Charity to recruit a permanent Financial Controller to join its established team based in conveniently located offices in Central London. 

The role:

Reporting directly to the COO, the Financial Controller will ensure the provision of consistent, robust financial advice to the Charity as a whole.  This person will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and financial operations, ensuring these are compliant with statutory requirements and appropriate and effective financial controls are in place. They will also maintain a financial planning framework that will facilitate the delivery of the Charity’s financial strategy. This will involve managing one direct report, overseeing all financial reporting and tax compliance, preparing the Charity’s management accounts and the end of year accounts for approval and sign off by the Trustees. In addition, the role will be responsible for managing an annual financial audit process preparing the annual budgets in advance for SLT sign off and providing sound financial advice across all of these areas.

This person will also manage all external relationships with banks, financial institutions, property Investors and auditors wherever Finance is the main issue being dealt with. This person will also oversee all Grants related financial transactions in close collaboration with the Grants department.

The person:

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and will be able to provide excellent financial management and reporting for the Charity. They will be confident working with different internal stakeholders and external professional advisors and will be capable of considering their different requirements and priorities in a knowledgeable way. This person will have excellent attention to detail and will be highly organised and a strong communicator across a wide range of audiences. Educated to Degree level or the equivalent (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA), this person will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and will be up to date on all MS Office packages and financial software including SAGE being essential.

Candidates with prior experience of working with endowed Trusts, Foundations or Charities or who have worked in Charities that have income derived from a permanent endowment (either partially or totally), will be of particular interest, so please draw attention to this when applying.

This person will have demonstrated substantial financial management experience at a senior level in the Charity or Not-for-Profit sectors, with extensive knowledge of UK Charity Accounting Standards (SORP, Charity Commission compliance and VAT). Also experienced in strategic financial planning, preparing complex financial statements, budgeting and cashflow forecasting, and have good knowledge of financial planning in a Funder or Grant-Maker setting. As our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments a substantial experience of managing income and cashflow from property and investments is essential.

The Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships will be part of the Senior Leadership Team and be responsible for overseeing a team of 16 and working towards growing annual income from £10 million to £12m-£14 million within the next few years, as well as securing £2m-£3 million in pro bono support. With a view to grow income this position will have a strategic role in refining and leading donor engagement and stewardship. With direct line management of four excellent Directors, this role will work and lead the team to think innovatively in how to grow new donor networks and engagement approaches to achieve income growth.  

   

The successful candidate will be able to evidence extensive high value fundraising experience in complex organisations, with notable examples of successfully securing six and seven-figure gifts from major donors, corporates, and foundations. This person will have proven experience of leading successful teams to achieve income and engagement growth of a multimillion-pound level. They will also be an experienced senior leader and ideally have knowledge of the education, children, or youth sectors. They will champion an inclusive culture and align with Impetus' mission and values.

This role involves managing day-to-day financial reporting systems and controls, providing forecasts for bids, ensuring financial plans align with budgets, and meeting external reporting requirements.

Key responsibilities:

• Financial management: maintaining robust financial reporting systems and controls, and line managing the Finance Assistant.
• Fundraising support: providing accurate financial forecasts for bids and meeting fund reporting requirements

Senior Wellbeing Practitioners (SWP) are a new role developed by NHSE as part of CYP-IAPT workforce development, and a new addition to our Rise service.

-3+ years post-qualification experience as an Education Mental Health Practitioner.

-BABCP/BPS recognised supervision qualification relevant to the low-intensity workforce.

Our client, a renowned young person's homeless charity based across East Surrey, is currently seeking a Weekend Night Housing Support Officer to provide personal development opportunities to young people in one of their supported housing services (low-medium needs) based in Redhill.
 
In this role, you will provide structured support in response to identified needs as documented in each young person’s Developmental Support Plan, equipping them with the confidence and skills to work towards living as independently and sustainably as possible. Complex Case Worker

Location: London 

Salary: £26,250 - £34,650 per annum

The post holder will be part of the Insight Platform, Young people’s service and will work with young people who have alcohol related problems, mental health issues and complex needs including drugs, psychological issues, anti-social behaviour, self-harm, or any other co-existing needs. The post holder will improve access to treatment services in the area for this cohort and, will provide a range of interventions for service users in this group including 1 :1 support and group work. 

You will bring a creative driven approach to the role and a willingness to build and nurture a successful and dynamic team focussed on delivering excellence and a quality service to promote and enhance the performance and reputation of Waythrough. You will be able to work seamlessly within professional partnerships to deliver outstanding services. An engaging communicator, you will have worked in a similar or NHS setting managing a team working with clients with substance misuse issues and/or complex needs.

The Philanthropy and Major Giving team is responsible for an annual budget of around £3.5m with an ambition to grow this to £5m by the end of our current strategic period in 2026. In 2021, the team doubled their income after the passing of HRH the late Duke of Edinburgh provided a significant opportunity to raise awareness and the profile of the charity. 

The Philanthropy and Major Giving team looks after a variety of relationships with high-net-worth individuals, family trusts and foundations, many of whom are long-term supporters of the charity committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential. The team is proactive when it comes to new business, seeking opportunities from our current networks and events. We collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders including our CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Trustees, Strategy & Engagement and Operations teams. 

You will be joining a successful and ambitious team at a pivotal moment for the charity as we prepare to celebrate our 70th Anniversary in 2026 and launch a new five-year strategy.

The successful candidate will play an active and integral role in the Philanthropy team, feeding into team plans and working collaboratively to reach new donors and increase income raised.

The Finance Officer will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

The Sutton Trust is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Finance Officer to join the team and provide crucial support on a range of key finance processes. This is a fast-paced and hands-on role that requires an understanding of basic finance processes. You can expect a steep learning curve in a passionate and supportive working environment.

We have recently introduced a new accounting system and are looking for someone who is willing to learn, make the most of the improved technology and contribute to automating (and improving) our finance processes. Main duties

• Maintaining the Purchase Ledger including processing supplier invoices, staff expense claims, grant and bursary payments, reconciling statements and making the relevant payments
• Maintaining the Sales Ledger including raising invoices and allocating receipts
• Cash management including checking bank transactions daily, allocating transactions on the accounting system and producing regular bank reconciliations. Paying in cheques and reconciling floats, if required
• Maintaining accurate records of both unrestricted and restricted fund transactions including receipts, grants, staff expenses, overheads and cash
• Providing timely and accurate financial support to the Programmes, Development and Research teams to assist them with forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation and (donor) reporting
• Supporting with the month end procedures such as balance sheet reconciliations, depreciation, month end adjustments, salary and overhead allocations
• Gathering monthly payroll information and reviewing monthly payroll reports
• Assisting with the administration of the pension scheme and of employee benefits
• Preparing quarterly Gift Aid claims and maintaining the relevant supporting documentation
• Assisting with the year-end statutory accounts preparation, audit and budget setting process
• Ensuring that the filing is done in a timely manner and that all paperwork is up to date

Terms of Appointment

• Salary: £33,000-£36,000
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
