Youth Ambassador Volunteer Roles
Young Humanists are the voice for non-religious young people. Two-thirds of young people are non-religious. We provide them with the community and platform that their voices deserve. We think young people have a right to be heard and that more should be done to ensure policy reflects their views.
Young Humanists is led by a committee that drives national and regional events throughout the year. They are supported by a team of local Ambassadors, who are the ‘on the ground’ representatives, working as part of local humanist or other community groups. We also have a team of volunteers specialising in areas like social media, design and research, who support the committee and individual Ambassadors.
We are seeking a dedicated and driven Northern Ireland-based individual to join our network of Ambassadors, to assist the committee by:
- Sitting on the Northern Ireland Humanists committee, providing a formal link to Young Humanists by championing issues that are particularly relevant to young people in Northern Ireland.
- Putting on events with a view to getting younger people involved (e.g. pub quizzes, campaign work, family-friendly events like coffee mornings or Sunday brunches, litter picks or picnics)
- Be a contact point for other Young Humanists who want to attend nearby groups/events and an ambassador for Young Humanists at regional events.
- Provide local knowledge to make sure we promote relevant local opportunities to our members and, equally, promote Humanists UK and Young Humanist events or campaigns locally.
Please read the full Application Pack for more information.
While there are no set hours we expect that up to three hours per week on average may be spent on the role, with this possibly increasing in the run-up to Young Humanists’ events.
All Young Humanists volunteers should be aged 18 to 35 (with eligibility ending the day before the applicant’s 36th birthday). Much of the work can be done remotely, but it is required that the post holder be based in Northern Ireland.
If this sounds like you send your CV and cover letter, with the subject ‘Young Humanists Ambassador for Northern Ireland’

About The Outrunners
The Outrunners support young people to get outdoors, get moving, and build the futures they want - all through the power of running, movement and the community. Our vision is a London where everyone is included and no one is left behind.
The young people we work with have incredible talent, creativity and energy but don’t get the opportunities they need because of deep structural disadvantages - racism, sexism and financial inequality.
We harness the collective energy of the running world to change that: helping young people access fun, accessible movement and running, access opportunities that help them build the futures they want, and work to change how their local area supports them.
Driven by young people themselves, we are building a community that moves together: removing barriers to participation in running and movement; building connections in London’s diverse neighbourhoods; creating pathways to help young people achieve their ambitions; and driving change to tackle disadvantage and make running truly inclusive. Last year, we supported over 350 young people across our programmes.
In the 5 years that The Outrunners has existed, we have rapidly caught the attention of the running world and have grown quickly, thanks to the impactful support of major brands, races, the wider running world and the philanthropic and community sectors. We now have significant partnerships with Nike and The London Marathon that are taking us to the next level.
We have an experienced team, a growing basis of dedicated supporters, connections in the running and sports world and a strong income pipeline for 2024/25.
Why do we need new Trustees?
We are at the next stage of our development and want to bring on board the expertise and skills that can support and guide our growth. With our strong partnership, increasing influence, and growing network of supporters, we have a major opportunity to grow our impact in the coming years.
We want to ensure that The Outrunners are equipped to maximise this opportunity to support more young people and drive real structural change in the running world and beyond.
What we need from our Trustees?
Trustees must be people with independent judgement, an ability to speak their mind and a willingness to use their knowledge, experience, and networks to support The Outrunners.
Although not essential, we are particularly interested in trustees with either of the following skills and experience:
1. Experience navigating periods of rapid growth and scaling, including continuing to secure the resources that are required to do this sustainably and managing the risks this entails. We envisage candidates with this experience might have experience in finance, tech, or running or investing in start-ups; or
2. Experience influencing and driving positive change in sports, (particularly change that supports under-represented groups) to access better support and greater opportunities. We envisage candidates who have experience within the running world (or similar sports) with the brands, races, events or media.
Beyond this, the things we need from our Trustees are:
-
A passion for shaping a different future for young people and having a positive impact in local communities
-
An understanding of the challenges facing young people in Hackney, and an insight into how The Outrunners Charity can best add value to supporting the future generations around us.
-
The ability to support and guide our organisation’s learning and impact upon the community around us and to think strategically and creatively about the challenges and opportunities ahead
-
An appreciation of charity finance that would contribute to our Finance Committee’s robust scrutiny and strengths in navigating our finances, operating environment and fundraising targets
-
An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures that will ensure the organisation is rigorous in its processes, ensuring the safety of the communities it engages with.
-
You will have good listening skills and be able to respect the opinions of others
-
You will understand the responsibilities required of a Trustee
-
You will be willing to undertake any necessary training which we require of you
We are not expecting applicants to have all of these qualities; and expect that the best candidates will come with some others. But we hope that our trustees between them will be able to cover all of these key attributes and more.
Above all you need to have genuine enthusiasm and a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for the young people we work with by supporting and guiding our Chief Executive and The Outrunners’ passionate and committed staff and volunteers in their mission to better the lives of marginalised young people in Hackney.
Role Description/Responsibilities:
-
Desirable - Someone with experience overseeing raising funds in either the charitable or corporate sectors.

Comply with your charity’s governing document and the law
-
Act in your charity’s best interests
-
Manage your charity’s resources responsibly
-
Act with reasonable care and skill
-
Ensure your charity is accountable
What will you get from us?
The Board is committed to tackling the varied challenges of The Outrunners Charity.
In return, you will be rewarded by:
-
Contributing to making a real difference to the lives of young people in Hackney and beyond;
-
Being part of a team of staff and volunteers made up of interesting, skilled experts and working closely with The Outrunners Charity's visionary Chief Executive;

Obtaining high-quality safeguarding training as well as a bespoke training programme aimed at understanding the needs of the young people that The Outrunners support; and

Becoming part of the founding vision of a young and ambitious charity, which has multiple and well-respected local community links, and a chance to influence the direction in which this charity will be heading to.
Time Commitment Expectations:
Board members are expected to attend the four quarterly meetings and AGM, whilst also being flexible and responsive to unexpected changes. Our Board members are active ambassadors for The Outrunners Charity. This means attending and supporting events and taking opportunities to promote and develop the work of The Outrunners Charity through networks and contacts. We therefore ask that Board members commit about 2 days per year to The Outrunners Charity, on top of the four evening Board Meetings a year and an AGM.
The four essential board meetings are 3 hours long. Meetings are held at a date and time which is convenient for all, which is usually a weekday evening, and are held online until it is safe to do so face to face.
Minimum tenure for a Trustee is 2 years.
Valuing Inclusion:
We currently have a very diverse leadership team and we welcome applications from people who are LGBTQ+ and non-binary, people with disabilities, people with mental and physical health conditions and people from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.
Next steps and what to expect:
If you would like to put yourself forward as a potential Trustee please apply with your CV.
Or, if you prefer, you could send us your expression of interest in any other creative way that gets across your background, interest and what you would bring.
We don’t expect you to cover all the points about The Outrunners, or respond line by line to this job pack – but we do want to hear how you will make a difference to our organisation and to the people we work with, if you become a Trustee.
We will be accepting applications until Sunday 7th April 2024.

The Family Bereavement sessions - What we do
We run sessions for bereaved families, offering three different age groups which are tailored around different developmental needs for 4-7-, 8-12- and 13–18-year-olds.
These Family Bereavement sessions currently have four components:
- An assessment with an allocated support worker to provide information and assess eligibility.
- An online parent information session for parent/carers to provide guidance and support in preparation for attendance at the bereavement session and to answer any questions or concerns.
- A social activity for families to meet and engage prior to the bereavement session.
- One Saturday Family Bereavement Session bringing families together (typically from 9am-3.30pm). These sessions will mostly be delivered as a family, with an hour in the afternoon where children and parents meet separately.
The Family Bereavement Sessions currently take place in Reigate but could be run from other locations in our catchment area across Surrey, parts of West Sussex and Kent.
The Social Event will be at a convenient location for the participating families which will be agreed with them. This is usually held on a Tuesday or Wednesday after school for the 8-12 and 13-18 groups and on a Saturday for the 4–7-year-olds.

During delivery, you will be required to assist the Support Workers in the delivery of the activities and to support the children, young people and parents/carers to engage. Various activities are run at the family bereavement sessions - such as making salt jars, memory boxes and other craft activities, etc.
Additionally, volunteers would be expected to serve teas and coffees, wash up and support the setting up and delivery of the activities.,
Social events- What we do
We provide different social events and activities throughout the year to help bring children and young people in a similar situation together. This helps bereaved families and those facing the death of a loved one to have an opportunity to connect as a family and create special memories.
It also allows children and young people to know that they are not alone and to meet with others who are grieving or facing the death of a loved one. Research shows that social connections and social support is important for health and well-being.
How we ask you to help with social events:
To help the Support Workers in the delivery of the events and to connect and engage with children, young people and their families in attendance.

Who we are
Advantage Schools is an ambitious school trust (also known as a multi-academy trust) determined to play a key role in the emerging school trust landscape. Ahead of significant consolidation of school trusts in the coming years, the CEO, executive team and Trustees are determined that the strong performance and purposeful direction of Advantage Schools will be a part of the future landscape.
About the role
The Trust now looks to appoint an experienced strategic leader as Chair of the Trust Board to succeed Dr Campbell. The successful candidate will lead an expert Board and provide support, challenge and coaching to the Trust’s CEO. They will act as both a non-executive leader and an external ambassador, working to raise the profile of the Trust amongst stakeholders.
The Trust requires a Chair who is innovative, enthusiastic and professional and able to command the respect of peers and the confidence of future partners. Fostering the ambition of the organisation, the Chair will support the CEO and Board in a period of expansion, as the Trust is positioned for further growth.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Chair with experience in leading a large and complex business or charitable organisation, which is comparable in size and scale and employs a large and diverse staff team. You will be willing to share your business acumen and apply it to our trust context. As a publicly funded organisation that ensures a valuable return on public funds entrusted to us, it is very important to us that the next Chair brings experience in financial planning and can demonstrate financial literacy at an appropriate level.
Our next Chair will be a lead ambassador for Advantage Schools, working closely with our CEO to manage stakeholder relationships with other local and national education providers, with the Department for Education, and with funders and local authorities. Our Chair will have the necessary time and capacity to be an effective outward-facing representative of Advantage Schools in the face of an evolving sector and amidst current political uncertainty. With that in mind, experience in the school system is not essential but a willingness and ability to learn and become educated is crucial.
Relevant insight from leading merger and acquisition processes and demonstrating an understanding of financial probity and risk, ideally from a multi-site corporation is also vital.
We welcome candidates from all professional backgrounds to apply to be our next Chair, though the person must appoint shares our perspective of being the best possible provider of education for our pupils and their families. Advantage Schools has an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of underprivileged learners across Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton, and we are proud to provide opportunities through education to everyone who comes through one of our schools.
The Chair will lead our board meetings which take place seven times per academic year, ensuring discussions that are had and decisions which are made uphold the Seven Principles of Public Life. The Chair is expected to read and analyse all board papers in advance of the meetings and ensure, outside of scheduled or formal meetings, to foster a positive working relationship with our CEO. It is expected that the person appointed should be willing to devote up to 2-3 days per month to the role, though this will be flexible throughout the year.
Peridot Partners and Advantage Schools are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
