We’re looking for a kind and compassionate person to join our Family Support team supporting families whilst they are in hospital in London and Surrey. You’ll support families whose child has cancer or a life challenging condition offering emotional and practical support when it’s most needed – helping families feel less alone during some of their most difficult times.
As a Hospital Family Support Worker, you’ll split your time between a number of families, visiting them whilst they are inpatients on the ward or as an outpatient, along with keeping in touch with them when they are not in hospital via phone, email or text. Whether sitting with a parent at their child’s hospital bedside, supporting a teenager on the ward, along with collaborating with hospital teams and Momentum community colleagues to deliver a seamless and impactful service, ensuring continuity of support beyond hospital stays... you’ll make sure families know they’re not facing this journey alone.
Ideally, your hours will be spread across five days, we are open to discussion on this. You will also have regular peer support, clinical supervision, and opportunities to develop your skills. You’ll be part of a small, friendly, and passionate team who look out for each other just as much as we look out for the families we support.
The role is about being calm, empathetic, building trust, being there when it matters, and making sure families know they’re not alone.

The work is varied, fast-paced and deeply rewarding, with every shift – whether early mornings, late evenings, weekends or bank holidays – bringing the chance to see real change happen.
In return, you will be part of a comprehensive and engaging Trainee Programme, with support around you from day one. You will learn through trainee-specific workshops, formal training, reflective practice, service visits and hands-on experience alongside knowledgeable colleagues across SHP. Over the course of the traineeship, which usually runs for up to 9 months with the possibility of fast-track at 6 months, you will build skills in areas such as housing, benefits, mental health, safeguarding and recovery-focused support. As your confidence and practice grows, your salary will increase at six and nine months, recognising your development and achievements as you build a meaningful career helping people move from homelessness and crisis towards safety, stability and independence.

Our Youth and Play Practitioners will play a pivotal role in the Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) team, working as a core team of practitioners to ensure the smooth running of our programmes and services. In this role you will be part of a small and dynamic team which delivers a wide range of programmes and activities, both from Tulse Hill Adventure Playground and in conjunction with local schools. The role of a Therapeutic Community Caseworker at the Baobab Centre is to support unaccompanied asylum seeking and refugee adolescents and young adults to access care, basic rights and entitlements and to support their social development and rehabilitation.This role involves working closely with the clinical key worker of each young person and with our wider multidisciplinary team. As a Caseworker you will aim to empower individuals to build stable, independent lives in the UK, including by supporting them to communicate their views, needs and experiences in decision-making processes, and supporting them to make challenges when necessary. Caseworkers assist young people to make effective choices about what happens in their lives and encourage them to speak up and build agency.
Baobab aims to be a non-residential therapeutic community with a holistic and integrated perspective.As a Caseworker, you will play a key role within our multidisciplinary team. We aim to be a thinking organisation and place a high value on shared thinking time and shared responsibilities. Our team work together with each other and with agencies and key individuals in young people’s lives, both within and outside of Baobab. A key aspect of the role is communicating with members of the clinical and admin staff team within the Baobab Centre and with other workers in the network around each young person including social workers, teachers, foster carers, lawyers, hospital consultants, housing and benefits workers. etc. You will strive to develop relationships across networks and advocate access to rights and entitlements for our community members.
It is critical that as a Caseworker:
you have an insight to the backgrounds and experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre and an understanding of the broader context in our society as it impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time.
You have an insight in how trauma and the many human rights violations and persecution that most members of our community have experienced impact on all aspects of a young person’s internal and external world.
You have an insight in how current immigration rules and social care system procedures act as barriers to rehabilitation, including by restricting access to education, adequate benefits, housing and healthcare provision.

Empower a caseload of service users to manage their health and wellbeing. As part of a team, you will support a staffing rota offering support to service users between the hours of 8am-10pm Mon-Sun each week. In collaboration with your team, you will actively monitor wellbeing, mental health, housing and living environment to ensure service users journey into independence.
