The Chair is responsible for leading the Board of Trustees, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation. The Chair’s role is also to work in partnership with the CEO, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation and to optimise the relationship between the Board and staff. Key responsibilities
Strategy, Governance, and Financial Management
- Lead the Board in providing strategic direction to the Hardman Trust.
- Ensure, with Trustees, that the organisation operates efficiently and effectively to fulfil its objectives in compliance with relevant charitable and company legislation.
- Maintain careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the charity and ensure that the Board regularly monitors that systems are in place to take advantage of opportunities and manage and mitigate the risks.
- Ensure that the Board fulfils its duties to ensure sound financial health of the charity, with systems in place to ensure financial accountability.
Board Leadership
- Ensure a high performing and effective Board through review of Board structure, Trustees and Board performance.
- Enhance the overall contribution of the Board, through mentoring of other Board members and encouraging participation in training/coaching/development.
- Review and ensure Trustees have the right skillsets, training and development to support effective governance of the organisation.
- Chair Board meetings inclusively, bringing impartiality and objectivity in the decision making process.
Support to Hardman Trust CEO
- Line manage The Hardman Trust CEO including annual performance reviews and regular check-ins.
- Maintain appropriate distance between the Board and the leadership team, but where necessary, provide support and guidance on operations.
- Work with The Hardman Trust CEO to support them to achieve the aims of the charity.
General Chair responsibilities
- Where appropriate, represent the Hardman Trust at meetings and events and act as spokesperson.
- Lead the Board in fostering relationships with external partners and potential funders/donors.
Person Specification
We want our Board to look like the world we serve and to have different voices within it. We know that diverse groups of people make better decisions. We are keen to hear from people who can bring perspectives or experiences often underrepresented in charity governance and how can help us progress our vision.
Essential
- Commitment to the Hardman Trust’s aims and values.
- Prior experience as a charity trustee and solid understanding of good governance practices.
- Experience (voluntary or paid) within the criminal or social justice sector at leadership level.
- Experience of chairing meetings, committees or boards.
- Robust planning and organisational skills.

RSPCA Surrey East Branch
We are looking for fosterers in the Surrey East area, including Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, Horley, Lingfield, Oxted and Caterham.
We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?
Overview of the opportunity
As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.
Once everything is in place, the branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat.
Our Animal Welfare Officer, Robyn, is the fostering coordinator, so she will provide our fosterers will all the help and support they need. We are a small, remote branch, so fostering will be the backbone of our rehoming operation. Volunteers will play an integral part to our branch. We don't operate at a large capacity, so we will always be on hand to support fosterers and navigate the fostering process with them. They will be joining the branch at a very exciting time, as we have only just launched our cat fostering scheme.
Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:

Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.

Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.

Transport them to any veterinary appointments (if required)

Provide them with your time and patience.

Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

Playing and cuddles are also a must!
What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer

Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.

Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.

Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

About the role
Our Medico-legal Report service relies heavily on volunteer and contractor Doctors who give need their time and skills to provide clinical assessments of torture and produce medico-legal reports on clients, documenting evidence of torture and ill-treatment, which are used as evidence in survivors’ asylum claim and other legal processes. Successful candidates will work in a team of doctors spread across all 4 centres, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, and London. Some remote working is also possible.
You will have extensive clinical experience post-qualification as a doctor. Ideally, you will have completed post-graduate training in your speciality however, if you have not completed this, but you are able to demonstrate the skills and competencies listed in the Person Specification please get in touch to discuss.

Our hub opening times (Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm). We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more
Who we are looking for
We welcome anyone who is passionate about disability equality and willing to support our work! You must be over 18 years old. You will need to feel comfortable working in a large busy warehouse environment and be able to lift and carry items, although we have a forklift truck to assist with heavier items.
Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount online!

DCF are a small, local, family-founded charity focusing on supporting children and young people's wellbeing. We provide youth groups, workshops and 121 support in schools and in the community.
We are looking for a Finance Trustee to lead on financial oversight of the charity, set up financial controls and processes and oversee our Treasurer.
We currently have a lack of financial oversight which impacts on grant applications and planning. We have a need for trustees with specific skillsets so that each board member can take ownership of their areas related to the charity. Currently our CEO has a very active role within Board meetings and would benefit from support from proactive members.
We would like to grow the Board and create processes and procedures that diversify our income and sustainability. We currently deliver services in two boroughs (Croydon and Merton) and have a 5 year plan to expand to four boroughs.
What are we looking for?
This individual should have:
- Knowledge and experience of charity finance practices
- Professional accounting, finance or similar qualification
- Strong understanding of financial management and reporting
- Experience in establishing and setting out strategic goals and direction in organisations
- Ability to explain financial procedures to other Board members
- Experience of providing Governance to organisations
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, and to exercise good, independent judgement.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
The role will involve:
- Supporting the Treasurer
- Providing overview of income, expenditure, reserves, balance sheet, and cashflow
- Recording transactions
- Monitoring spend for various projects
- Providing reports to the Treasurer and Board
- Forecasting project and operational spend with CEO
- Attending 'monthly' meetings (10 per year)
- Providing information to HMRC and Pension providers
- Monitoring compliance with local accounting laws and regulations

Are you a qualified Yoga Instructor who would enjoy facilitating weekly sessions to help individuals with their general well-being. This is an opportunity for you to share techniques with others.
Practicing yoga and mindfulness aim to quiet the mind in order to cultivate a deeper connection to and understanding of oneself. They both help with breathing techniques, pay attention to bodily sensations and learn to accept reality as it is in that moment.
What you will be doing
- Design session plans enabling all group members to increase fitness, suppleness and help them relax
- Teach the group yoga postures and breathing techniques which allow a range of mixed ages and abilities to participate
- Inspire and motivate people to attend and get involved in the group activities where possible and encourage the group to help design future sessions
- Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback and report any concerns to the staff team
The skills you need
- Skilled and qualified Yoga Instructor
- Good communication skills
- Ability to provide a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages learning and participation
