What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We urgently need volunteers who can provide a friendly face, shop for and deliver groceries to our clients.

The Age Connects shopping service is an invaluable lifeline to so many older, vulnerable members of our local communities, particularly those with no family or friends to offer shopping support. We know that older people can become frail, and those who have mobility problems, who no longer drive or don’t have access to the internet, may find it difficult to do their weekly shop.

As a shopper you will be providing a shop and deliver service for the client either on a weekly or fortnightly basis. You will collect their shopping list, carry out the shopping and deliver it back to them. It could be that you’re the only person they see or speak to that day or even that week and it can be an opportunity to have a chat with the client, provide them with information about other services they may need or to offer practical help.

This is a fee paying service, the client will pay £5 per shop to the charity. If you are a friendly, reliable and trustworthy, you can help. You need to be aged 18+, and to be able to make a commitment for a minimum of 6 months: we will also require two character references, and will carry out a DBS check before you can start. It is best if you have access to your own transport, as some clients do not live centrally, or require large shops.

Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people?

We are offering 1 young person aged 18-25 the opportunity to volunteer for 3 months with the Spanish Red Cross in Manresa (Creu Roja Manresa). Placements dates are planned for: September 2025 – December 2025 (subject to visas).

You will be supporting the Creu Roja Manresa youth team’s work with children and young people from excluded backgrounds e.g. migrants, those in the travelling community, homeless families and/or those with poor socio-economic conditions. You will assist in providing practical support e.g. a place to wash clothes, shower, have a meal, and assist with supported environment activities for children e.g. psycho-social support, support with homework, and a space to play.

You will support 3 projects run by the youth team which are thematically linked by humanitarian action at a community level, aimed at preventing social exclusion and improving young people’s well-being.

• Casal-ot: offers 3 hours of evening activities for a group of children, aged 3 -12 years old, during weekdays. Children are divided into groups and rotate through hands-on games, board games, and computing. Those with homework receive help with it, and each child has a responsibility in the kitchen (clearing, laying the table, washing up etc) related to the evening meal.
• Ludugurus: the Ludoteca is a bespoke building based over three floors, providing youth group activities for different age ranges during weekday evenings between 5.30 and 8.30pm. The groups are aged 6-10, 10-12 and 12-14 and the Ludoteca offers an outdoor space to play football, a homework room for quiet study as well as computers for games, board games and arts and crafts projects.
• JNA (Jo’venes Nu’cleo Antiguo (Teenagers from the Old Town): attended predominantly by boys, JNA is based around designated outdoor space which includes a football pitch/basketball court. The age range is between 12-16, for 2 hours per evening, and includes a different sport each week, as well as occasional workshops on health, sexuality, healthy eating etc. The football team may also play at weekends in local leagues.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in these projects and find out what you are interested in. The main thing we want to see is your motivation for this placement!

Typical tasks may involve:

• Running activities with children, using your own initiative and creativity
• Meeting with staff and volunteers to plan, monitor and evaluate activities
• Supporting activities with young people
• Studying Catalan for at least one-two hours per day in order to facilitate integration into the host community and the project.
• Getting involved in other activities and/or services of the Red Cross in Manresa that may be of interest to you
• Please note that only young people based in Wales can apply for this role. Interviews will take place online with shortlisted candidates.

We are keen to hear from individuals especially those who do not normally get the chance to volunteer overseas, who are passionate and motivated about working in the humanitarian sector and international volunteering but who also understand that these types of placements require adaptability and resilience. We are especially interested in applications from those who are from low socio-economic backgrounds, are carers or are care experienced, have accessed free school meals, are refugees or asylum seekers and those with disabilities or additional needs.

Please note that only young people (aged 18-25) based in Wales can apply for this role. Depending on the situation at the time, we will either run an in-person selection day or run zoom interviews with shortlisted candidates.

1. You have a native level of English and either hold a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language or are working towards one.

Please note: We may consider applications from teachers who hold no English teaching qualifications, nor are working towards one, but who have teaching experience.

5. In order to be successful for this role it is essential that you have a native level of English and have some knowledge of teaching English.

About Disability Peterborough

Disability Peterborough, legally registered as DIAL Peterborough, is a user-led charity dedicated to supporting physically disabled individuals and their families in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

What will you be doing?

As a Board member of Disability Peterborough, you will serve as both a Director of the Company and a Trustee of the Charity. You will play an integral part in guiding the strategic direction of the charity to meet the needs of physically disabled people of Peterborough, ensuring it fulfils its objectives and operates in accordance with its charity objects and Articles of Association as a Company Ltd by Guarantee.

Board members are expected to gain an understanding of the organisation’s purpose, contribute their broad expertise through 6 - 8 Board meetings to make sure that the charity is strategically positioned to deliver the most effective services to physically disabled and operating good governance practice.

The estimated time commitment is approximately 4 hours per month. This includes attending Board meetings, reviewing documents, and carrying out occasional follow-up tasks.

Role Summary:

Roots Academy is seeking a Finance Lead (Canada) to oversee and manage the treasury functions of our growing non-profit organization. This role is essential in ensuring our financial health, transparency, and accountability.

Key tasks

• Oversee cash flow, budgeting, and fund allocation across departments and initiatives
• Manage banking relationships and ensure secure handling of donations and grants
• Maintain accurate records of income, expenses, and reconciliations
• Prepare simple financial reports for internal reviews
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial best practices and Canadian regulatory requirements
• Support fundraising campaigns with budgeting and analytics tracking

What are Serving Community Teams?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA. SSAFA has developed Serving Community Teams for volunteers to support serving personnel their families in the UK and overseas.

A Serving Community Team is run by a small team of volunteers on or near a British Armed Forces base which provide emotional, practical and financial support to the serving community. Our volunteer Finance Coordinators are an integral part of the team. To enable volunteers to deliver their work in the community, the Finance Coordinator is the key to processing grants and volunteer expenses, as well as other tasks such as balancing the books.

Why we want you

There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA has Serving Community Teams (SCTs) which offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team consists of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible. That’s where you come in; could you spare some time on a regular basis to ensure the SCT meets its financial obligations?

What you will be doing

• Reconciling the local SCT bank account and recording all transactions.
• Maintaining accurate records using SSAFA’s online financial management system.
• Working with the Chair around financial planning; advising on any financial implications of plans and overseeing the annual budget.
• Preparing year-end accounts, financial statements and contribute to the team’s Annual Return.
• Being an ambassador for SSAFA, building positive relationships with all stakeholders.

The skills you need

• Friendly and approachable, with effective communication skills.
• Finance skills; experience of finance and accountancy.
• Empathy regarding the needs and challenges related to serving community.
• Good IT skills and ability to use online banking systems.
• Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and boundaries.

Requirements

Volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years old.

Time commitment

Depending on the needs of the team, this role would suit someone who would like to volunteer a couple of hours a week. There will be times when attendance is required for a team meeting which may be in person or virtually.

Support

Full training is provided for this role, with some e-learning modules online and a live Teams webinar. You will also be supported by your SCT chair and the Serving Community Support Team.

Since 1990, Open Country has been helping people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside. The voluntary role of Treasurer is a crucial role in helping us manage our finances responsibly and sustainably. You will serve as a Trustee of the Charity and a Director of the Limited Company, helping us to make informed decisions to allow us to perform our inspirational work.

We have a part-time Finance Officer and use a local firm of book-keepers to prepare our monthly management accounts using Paxton software. Payroll issues are dealt with using the services of another third party. Thus, your input will be primarily at a governance level rather than one of financial administration.

We seek someone with the following attributes:

- Ability to analyse financial data and assess their financial impact on our charity.

- A great teamwork ethic and willingness to work collaboratively with other Board members and staff.

- Previous financial experience, ideally in the charity sector.

- A strong commitment to Open Country's values and purpose.

St Leonards Youth & Community Centre are looking for someone with accounting experience to join the Board as a Trustee to advise on financial matters, ensure we meet our financial obligations, and help us build a sound financial strategy.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the charity and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. The Treasurer leads the financial affairs of the charity and ensures that they are conducted within required legal and accounting best practice. It is also the responsibility of the Treasurer to work in partnership with the Chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.

Key tasks:

• ensure the board fulfils its financial responsibilities
• ensure that the Charity has proper systems for budgeting, financial control, insurance and reporting
• inform the trustee board members of the finances of the Charity by written report, at least on a quarterly basis ensuring that the board have a clear picture of the financial health of the food bank
• ensure that financial reports: are comprehensible and properly discussed at trustee board meetings; are provided in the proper format and at the proper time, as required by the relevant charity regulator body (Charity Commission of England & Wales); have properly appointed auditors or independent examiners, as our income is over £25K

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• to approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
• to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity
• to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
• to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled appropriately
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored and progress is evaluated
• to provide financial statements
• to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
• to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection
• to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

• a knowledge of, and commitment to, the work of St Leonards Youth & Community Centre
• a willingness to engage with the local community, including our beneficiaries and volunteers
• previous experience or an ability in: financial accounting and reporting procedures; communicating financial information to those who may have little or no financial background; keeping all financial records up to date
• confidence to actively participate in discussions concerning the needs of the charity, always acting in its best interests
• experience of working effectively with others
• sound, independent judgement and the ability to think creatively

Spectra is a Community Interest Company (CIC), working to improve the choices, health, and well-being of structurally excluded communities across London, particularly in relation to their sexual health, emotional resilience, and well-being, and to combat isolation and minimise risk.

Under the steer of its Chief Executive and Board of Directors, Spectra’s outstanding staff team provides supportive, knowledgeable, and non-judgemental services, all of which are peer-led, meaning they are delivered by people with lived and learned experience. Spectra strives to proactively identify the needs of all its service users, supporting them appropriately and effectively.

We are now seeking suitably experienced and committed individuals to join our Board as Directors of the CIC.

Director with Fundraising Experience: You will provide strategic direction for the organisation around fundraising, including helping to shape and support our fundraising strategy around diversifying our funds and growing our individual giving. You will support Spectra’s delivery of statutory and grant-funded services, help us in advancing our vision, and provide constructive scrutiny and oversight of the Chief Executive and the work of Spectra’s staff.

Director with Communications, Marketing, and PR Experience: You will provide strategic direction for the organisation around communications, marketing, and PR. You will support our plans to increase our reach and brand, further our communications work and strategy, including social media marketing and campaigning, and enhance our PR opportunities. You will support Spectra’s delivery of statutory and grant-funded services, help us in advancing our vision, and provide constructive scrutiny and oversight of the Chief Executive and the work of Spectra’s staff.

Spectra is based in Vauxhall, South London. It is expected that you will attend five meetings (in the evening, currently online on a Monday evening) and two SMT/Board Away Days each year (currently in person). In addition, it is envisaged that you will contribute your expertise outside of Board meetings on occasion, e.g., to review service or planning reports, to input into a focus group, etc.
