About the opportunity

As Accounts Assistant focusing on Treasury and Accounts Receivables, you'll play an important role in delivering a high-performing, efficient financial transactions operation with partnership and improvement at its core. This is an important role, where the ideal candidate will be working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Accountant to support the financial accounting and compliance functions of the College.

This is an important role within the Finance team, supporting the College’s mission to improve child health by ensuring the integrity of financial information, robust financial controls, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with the Financial Accountant and wider finance team, you will take responsibility for key accounting processes including payroll, tax, treasury management, and monthly financial reconciliations. You will play a vital role in maintaining accurate and timely financial records, supporting audit preparation, and ensuring that all financial operations run smoothly.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the integrity of financial systems and ensuring accurate, timely accounting entries and reconciliations
• Supporting the Financial Accountant in preparing key balance sheet reconciliations, including fixed assets, investments, accruals, prepayments and deferred income

Responsible for the day to day running of the Financial Control department, and line managing two Senior Finance Assistants and two Finance Assistants.

Responsible for group reporting requirements for branches and subsidiaries, including assisting with their opening and closing.

Responsible for employee and employer tax matters for benefits-in-kind that are identified in invoices or expense claims, including preparing the PAYE Settlement Agreement.

Responsible for statutory and regulatory calculations, reports and filing, including Certification Office, Companies House, corporation tax, VAT, gift aid and other taxes, levies, charges and duties.

Prepare for and assist the external audit, and year-end and monthly accounts, and complete allocated balance sheet reconciliations.

• Lead on the accounting and reporting of a significant investment portfolio, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant outputs
• Support the production of statutory accounts and related disclosures

About You

• You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• You bring experience in financial or investment accounting, ideally from a charity, investment, or audit background
• You’re comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on levels — equally confident preparing accounts or redesigning a process
• You have an interest in systems and reporting improvement, ideally with exposure to Microsoft Business Central

As a Purchase to Pay Officer at Alzheimer's Society, you'll be critical to our ability to deliver a highly efficient, high-performing, data-led financial transactions service.

About the opportunity

As a Purchase to Pay Officer within our Finance & Assurance directorate, you'll own the end-to-end purchase-to-pay process that keeps our charity running. From procuring goods and services through to payment, you'll ensure smooth, controlled, and efficient operations while being the highly visible 'front door' of Accounts Payable for colleagues across the Society.

You'll oversee the complete P2P journey. Monitoring purchase requisitions, goods receipting, invoice processing, and payment runs, while proactively resolving issues and managing risks. As system owner for our purchase ledger and purchase ordering modules, you'll champion best practice, drive process improvements, and use data and metrics to motivate performance across the team. You'll also lead and develop our Accounts Assistants, building a high-performing team committed to continuous improvement and delivering a seamless, controlled experience for colleagues and suppliers alike.

About you:

You're an experienced finance professional with deep understanding of purchase-to-pay processes in large, complex organisations. You're passionate about using data to drive performance, and you thrive on building relationships that make financial processes work smoothly for everyone. You see efficiency and control not as constraints, but as enablers that allow the charity to focus on what matters most.

You'll have:

- Experience developing and motivating teams, particularly those early in their careers or undertaking professional qualifications, using a high challenge, high support approach.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end P2P processes and best practices in large organisations.
- Experience driving quality and performance improvement through data analysis, engaging multiple teams to achieve results.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with proven ability to build effective cross-departmental relationships with budget holders and business partners.

What you’ll focus on:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Support the Finance team in delivering accurate and timely financial processing and reporting. Where allocated, this role focuses on income and expenditure transactions, financial controls, reconciliations, and customer and supplier support, while providing cross-functional support across the Finance department to ensure continuity and compliance.

Some, or all of, the tasks below will be allocated to this role, assisted by the Senior Finance Assistants and supervised by the Financial Controller.

Daily monitoring of income and payments inboxes and related correspondences, support the end-to-end process, record and amend income and payments information in financial and other databases, and provide support on related banking queries.

Work alongside income teams in invoicing, receipting payments, issuing statements, allocating income, approving refunds and onwards union fee disbursements. Support query resolution, and monitor unallocated cash and union fees.

Process and record supplier BACS and other payments efficiently and accurately, and in accordance with accounting procedures. Record payment transactions in the finance database, including cash allocation and currency conversions. Support internal teams and meetings in relation to delegate prepaid cards, including processing transactions, issuing new cards and stopping or cancelling cards as required. Support the prepaid card platform, ensuring all records are kept up-to-date and centrally located to assist colleagues.

Assist in processing expense claims in line with policy. Process transactions for employee cash claims and corporate credit card purchases, issue new cards and stop or cancel cards as required.

Support month and year-end close processes, reporting, reconciliations and audit.

Ensure compliance with internal financial procedures and controls, and support the design and implementation of new systems, policies, and processes within the Finance team responsibilities

ABOUT YOU 

We are looking for a highly numerate and organised individual with a strong ethical approach. The ideal candidate will have:

Essential criteria:

• Experience: Processing invoices, payments, other transactions and financial information.
• IT proficiency: Advanced Excel and intermediate Word skills. Must have practical experience with complex finance databases (e.g., Sage, Oracle, SAP), reporting tools, and expense claim systems.
• Personal attributes: High levels attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency, and the organisational skills to meet tight deadlines. Willingness and ability to learn new responsibilities and adapt to evolving processes. Must be fluent in English.
• Flexibility: Willingness to adapt working hours during periods of high demand to ensure deadlines are met.

Desirable criteria:

• Experience in a membership-based or international organisation.
• Familiarity with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database or similar.
• Knowledge of multi-currency transactions and international banking procedures.
