THE ROLE

This role offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to lead National Energy Action’s efforts to improve the lives of those experiencing fuel poverty, with a focus on enhancing building fabric and energy systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the organisation’s expertise and credibility in this area and will be a passionate advocate for energy efficiency as a vital solution to fuel poverty.

As our new Director of Homes, you will lead our engagement with governments, industry partners, consumer protection bodies, and research organisations to highlight the needs, opportunities, and challenges faced by fuel-poor households.

You will be a member of National Energy Action’s Senior Management Team, helping to shape the strategic direction of the charity. You will lead and support a dedicated team, managing innovative projects designed to deliver meaningful impact.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will oversee the development and delivery of high-profile demonstration projects and ensure that insights and evidence from this work are widely shared. You will also lead our influencing efforts, working with key stakeholders and policymakers to drive lasting change.

As part of our Senior Leadership Team, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the organisation to help guide National Energy Action into the future.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

Whether influencing national policy, designing innovative demonstration initiatives, or forging partnerships across industry and government, you will be driven by the desire to make a tangible difference to the lives of those most in need.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, able to represent National Energy Action with credibility and authority in high-level discussions and public forums.

Strategic, collaborative, and highly motivated, you will play a central role in shaping the charity’s future direction and ensuring we remain a trusted voice in the national conversation on energy and fuel poverty.

This is an exciting opportunity to steer Asylum Aid at an important time in its 30-year existence. As Executive Director you will be responsible for delivering on our strategy for impact. You will oversee our work to increase access to expert, trauma-informed legal representation to those in the asylum, trafficking and statelessness systems and lead our policy and strategic legal work to achieve systemic change that contributes towards our vision.

You will line manage the Director of Legal Casework to oversee the provision of supportive and enabling leadership to Asylum Aid caseworkers so that they can continue to deliver high quality expert advice in complex cases, while being supported in their professional development and wellbeing. You will also manage and develop the work of our welfare advice team within the Westminster Advice Services Partnership and beyond, and work collaboratively with colleagues in the sector to build capacity and increase our impact. 

The ideal candidate, who may be legally qualified, will have experience of leadership in the charity/NGO sector and a sound understanding of the asylum, human rights and trafficking processes in the UK and the legal frameworks which govern the protection of refugees, survivors of trafficking and stateless people, and of the role of law in achieving system change.

We are looking for someone who is strategically minded and passionate about providing supportive and inclusive leadership to our expert team. You will be committed to our objectives and to the role which expert legal representation plays in enabling people in need of protection in the UK to obtain it.

As is the nature of this sector, the role may be exposed to a high volume of traumatic and distressing material and, whilst they will be supported by the Helen Bamber Foundation Group CEO and surrounding team, the candidate should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of good self-care principles in an intense work environment and dissemination of those principles to junior members of the team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and strategy

·Be responsible, with the support of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group CEO, for the development, implementation and monitoring of Asylum Aid’s organisational strategy

·Provide leadership and strategic direction at Asylum Aid in accordance with its aims and objectives, with the support of the Director of Legal Casework

·Act as external spokesperson for Asylum Aid, maintaining and strengthening Asylum Aid’s position as a leader in the refugee rights, statelessness and legal aid sectors;

·Work collaboratively with others in the sector to promote and strengthen Asylum Aid’s work, identify and establish potential partnerships, with the support of the Director of Legal Casework;

·Work collaboratively with the Helen Bamber Foundation Group CEO and Executive Leadership team to drive the implementation of the Group strategic framework;

·Ensure that all reporting and monitoring requirements are met to support fundraising, contract compliance and monitoring strategic impact;

·Support the cross collaboration of the Asylum Aid team with the Helen Bamber Foundation team and play an active part in the management of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group.

Governance  

·Act as the Data Protection Supervisor with responsibility for data protection and cyber security within Asylum Aid

·Together with the Helen Bamber Foundation Group CEO and designated safeguarding leads, be responsible for child and adult safeguarding within Asylum Aid

·In collaboration with the Director of Legal Casework, ensure compliance by Asylum Aid with all legal and regulatory obligations, including the Legal Aid Agency contract, the Immigration Advice Authority and Solicitors Regulation Authority;

·Lead on the preparation and presentation of quarterly reports on Asylum Aid’s activities, strategy and risks to the Asylum Aid Board, the Finance and Fundraising Committee and the People and Governance Committee;

·Lead on the preparation of the Trustees’ annual report and ensure that monitoring and evaluation systems are adequate to enable reporting on Asylum Aid’s activities and impact.

Management and Supervision 

·Responsible for line management of the Director of Legal Casework and Welfare Advice service coordinator, and other team supervisors as required;

·Together with the Group Director of People, responsible for Human Resources and implementation of the People Strategy within Asylum Aid, including development and implementation of HR policies and procedures;

·Together with the Director of Legal Casework and team supervisors, drive the effective management and supervision of the Asylum Aid team and ensure that they comply with relevant professional standards and accreditation;

·Foster a supportive and inclusive team culture at Asylum Aid in which each member feels valued and supported to develop professionally and to perform to the best of their ability;

·Ensure the team’s well-being and that self-care practices are established and work in tandem with the Director of Legal Casework and supervisors to ensure trauma-informed ways of working.

Policy & Strategic Legal Work

·Together with the Group Director of Policy, identify policy priorities and coordinate the preparation of evidence and briefings drawing on Asylum Aid’s experience and expertise to influence system change;

·Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with sector colleagues to support joint strategic engagement including policy advocacy and strategic legal work;

·Work closely with the Director of Legal Casework and team supervisors to drive changes in the UK asylum, trafficking and statelessness systems through strategic legal work.

Finance & Fundraising

·Work closely with the CEO and the Helen Bamber Foundation Group Finance Team to set and manage budget(s) and general financial matters for Asylum Aid

·Together with the Director of Legal Casework and the Group Finance Team, establish systems for monitoring legal aid Work In Progress and billing, and securing casework income including legal aid, and inter partes income from judicial review cases;

·Work closely with the Helen Bamber Foundation Group Fundraising and Communications Team to secure funding for Asylum Aid from a range of sources including trusts and foundations, corporate philanthropy and major donors;

·Ensure that Legal Aid and other income is maximised, and targets are achieved.

Other duties

·Manage the recruitment and supervision of volunteers where necessary in collaboration with the Helen Bamber Foundation Group Volunteers Coordinator;

·Support the Helen Bamber Foundation Group Facilities team to ensure the smooth running of the office and that the facilities meet the needs of Asylum Aid;

·Work outside normal office hours as required and travel in order to carry out the responsibilities of the post.

·To undertake any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post.

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

•Experience of running a small to medium sized charity/legal NGO and/or legal department within the NGO sector (or other equivalent senior management role);

•Demonstrable experience of managing and leading a successful team and the ability to manage a growing team with mixed roles from team supervisors to administrative support staff, working co-operatively with colleagues to maintain transparency and effective working relationships within the team;

•Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds

•Strong understanding of good governance including legal, regulatory and financial responsibilities;

•Ability to work with a range of stakeholders from trustees to external partners;

•Experience of leading and/or participating in organisational strategic planning;

·Experience of legal policy work within the human rights field and /or of strategic litigation, whether as an NGO claimant or legal representative;

•Experience of managing diverse funding sources and setting and implementing budgets;

•Experience of working in a service delivery partnership with other organisations;

•Experience of fundraising, especially grants from trusts and foundations;

•Sound working knowledge of the law and policy as it relates to immigration,  asylum, human rights and modern slavery/trafficking;

•Demonstrable understanding of the asylum and human rights sector in the UK;

•An understanding of the barriers migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers face regarding access to legal advice, reasons why they may become destitute and why this makes it more difficult to access advice and support; and

•The passion for working empathetically and supportively with migrants, refugees, stateless people and asylum seekers.

Desirable Experience

·Experience of managing the delivery of frontline casework with people in the asylum or trafficking systems

·Experience of tendering for and delivering publicly funded contracts e.g. LAA or local authority funding;

·Working knowledge of Legal Aid Agency contracts, including the delivery of casework and billing under a legal aid contract in the immigration and asylum category and/or the public law category;

The Research Officer role enjoys a varied workload and brings the opportunity to work with autonomy and develop new skills within a friendly and dynamic team. Duties and Key Responsibilites 

Sarcoma UK’s research programme

• To support Sarcoma UK’s grant application processes under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include calls for proposals, identifying expert peer reviewers, administering a high-quality peer and lay review process, communication with applicants and potential applicants, administration of grant awards and supporting patient involvement.
• To provide support to the Grant Review Panel and Research Strategy Committee, including organising meetings and preparing minutes.
• To manage Sarcoma UK’s portfolio of active research grants, under guidance from the Acting Head of Research. This will include administration of newly awarded grants, monitoring progress of current grants, oversight of grant finances and reporting on final outputs.
• To support opportunities for patient involvement within the research programme, including managing a network of lay reviewers and facilitating new opportunities, with support from the Patient Involvement Coordinator.
• To support new developments in Sarcoma UK’s research programme, including organising and attending events, collaborative funding calls and initiatives to support early career researchers. 

Research Impact and Communications

• To monitor and gather outputs and long-term impact of research grants funded by Sarcoma UK and support in ensuring these are shared with internal and external audiences.
• To plan and produce engaging and reactive and proactive communications about sarcoma research, including website, social media, written and video content, working with the Acting Head of Research and Communications Team to ensure our research activities and outcomes are shared with the sarcoma community and wider public.
• To proactively engage with grant holders to gather impactful insights and to support engaging communication about sarcoma research.
• To regularly review and update Sarcoma UK’s website with progress updates on research grants and promote funding opportunities.
• To support work undertaken by the Fundraising Team where required, such as lab tours and supplying information about funded grants for donor reports.

External relationships

• To be a point of contact for Sarcoma UK grant holders and their host institutions.
• To maintain positive relationships with Sarcoma UK’s research panels, potential grant applications, researchers and clinicians, and the wider sarcoma research community.
• To work directly with a range of people personally affected by sarcoma to place the voice of lived experience at the heart of our research programme.

General

• To support the integration of the research programme across Sarcoma UK.
• Attend Sarcoma UK events and contribute to the wider work of Sarcoma UK.

We are looking for a dynamic leader with proven fundraising experience to become our new Head of Fundraising, helping When You Wish Upon a Star to make magical memories for sick children. We have recently moved into a modern new office, have appointed a new CEO and are celebrating 35 years of Wish granting across the UK. So, it is an exciting time to join our dedicated team, some of whom work remotely or from our Scotland office.

Your key focus is to grow our income generation, allowing us to grant even more Wishes to children living with life threatening illness. The Head of Fundraising and their team play a huge part in helping us achieve this vision and, occasionally, have some direct engagement with delivering Wishes.

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Fundraising will be responsible for developing, directing and delivering the fundraising strategy.  You will be an inspirational leader; motivating the team to promote the Charity and successfully engage external stake holders, including both new and existing supporters, and develop long-term relationships through excellent stewardship.

The successful candidate will be able to manage legacy, grants & trusts, events, corporate and community fundraising. Ensuring that income targets are achieved, along with securing high value donors to support major events and campaigns. Administrative Support:

1. Organisation and minute taking of the Students’ Union’s internal meeting structure, supporting chairs by doing the following:
   • Work with the chair to construct agendas, ensuring expiring policy is renewed
   • Book venues and send out invites
   • Ensuring technology is set-up for remote participants
   • Collating papers for the meeting
   • Circulating papers for meetings
   • Minuting meetings
   • Distributing/tracking/monitoring actions
2. Support in development and implementation of the annual governance calendar, governance action tracker and maintain regular updating of progress. 
3. Preparation of high-quality documents including reports, correspondence, presentation materials (including PowerPoint), gathering appropriate data and information as requested.
4. Administer travel and expense claims for trustees and members of committees.
5. Identify and develop procedures and operational manuals to ensure effectiveness of the Administration service.
6. To support in creating content for All Staff Forum meetings, Operational Lead meetings and other organisational meetings where necessary.

Senior Leadership Support:

1. To undertake other administrative tasks that may be requested from time to time by the CEO that are commensurate with the duties and grade of this post.
2. Manage an effective and proactive diary system for the CEO, ensuring their time is optimised.
3. Manage timely correspondence, including email, opening of post and taking telephone calls and action where possible.
4. Act as first point of contact to identify if the CEO or another team member is the best person to respond.

Two Rhythms is seeking a dynamic Business Manager to spearhead their operational and financial success, ensuring the charity's sustainability and growth. This pivotal role involves driving earned income, managing financial health, and expanding the reach of their therapeutic arts programs across South Wales and the UK.

The Business Manager will oversee the operational and financial management of the charity, ensuring the organisation is efficient, sustainable, and aligned with its mission. They will focus on earned income generation and working to increase it in line with the business plan. They will be outward-facing, generating new business with local authorities, care providers, schools, hospitals and hospices. They will work closely with the CEO, and Head of Programme to introduce the 2R programme to new guests across South Wales, and with the Membership Officer to extend our membership programme across the UK.

The Business Manager will play a crucial role in managing the charity's financial health, ensuring resources are effectively utilised to support its mission and goals. This hands-on role involves overseeing financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance while supporting their leadership team colleagues with financial insights and strategies.

They will prepare reports for the management team, CEO and Trustees as required and they will liaise with our external accountants, helping to prepare annual accounts and other statutory documents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

OPERATIONAL

1. Business and Operational Management:

• Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across departments.
•  Design and implement new processes to monitor trading performance.
• To act a responsible point of contact for managing day-to-day facilities and building issues.
• Management of external contracts relating to facilities and running of the organisation. 
• Review environmental considerations of the organisation in-line with the requirements and policies of our funders, landlords and partner organisations.
• Support the administration of session bookings, liaising with finance and management colleagues.

2. Compliance and Governance:

• Working as part of the charity’s Safeguarding team helping to ensure best practice across the charity’s activities and operations. (Appropriate training will be provided)
• Ensure the charity complies with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
• Manage risk and protect the charity’s financial reputation and assets.
• Maintain accurate records and policies, working closely with trustees or board members.

FINANCE

3. Financial Management and Planning:

• Prepare and manage budgets in collaboration with the leadership team.
• Monitor and control income and expenditure to ensure financial sustainability.
• Develop financial forecasts and plans to support strategic decision-making.
• Manage invoicing, liaising with external clients and contractors with respect to debt management, reviewing and improving booking processes where necessary. 

4. Accounting and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate financial records and oversee day-to-day bookkeeping.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis.
• Produce annual financial statements and manage the year-end accounting process.

5. Donor and Grant Management:

• Track restricted and unrestricted funding, ensuring proper allocation and reporting.
• Provide financial reports and updates for donors and grant applications.

PEOPLE

6. Supporting Stakeholders:

• Work closely with trustees and the senior leadership team, providing clear insights.
• Contribute to the charity's overall strategic planning and growth.
• Attend board meetings, ensuring accurate minutes and record keeping.

7. Leadership and Team Support:

• Work closely with Senior Management colleagues to provide strategic advice and insights.
• Manage and support staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Lead by example, promoting the charity’s values and mission in all actions.

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY

• Work with the team to drive sales, pursue new clients and increase the charity’s earned income, collaborating with Programme, Membership and Marketing colleagues and the CEO to further the charity’s work.
• Lead on our engagement with the health and social care sector, including private and public organisations.
• Assist the CEO in submitting reports to funders, regulatory bodies, and trustees.
• Support the development of funding proposals with accurate financial input.
• Assist the CEO in building relationships with external partners and stakeholders, including corporate and commercial clients.

You will lead all aspects of charity financial and resource management for two separate but closely connected charities, the Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK (ACCT UK) and the Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA), which are supported by a single head office team. We are looking for someone to bring enthusiasm, personal credibility, discretion and sensitivity. You will be ultimately responsible for Finance and Resource Management within the charities.
You will work directly with the trustees of both charities and the wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT) which comprises of the Director of Development, the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) (Director of HR and Programmes), and the Chief Executive. You will have primary responsibility for ensuring that the charities meet their statutory obligations, that financial functions are well ordered and support the work of the charities.
Managing and leading a small and diverse team through high pressure periods including month end, year-end and annual budgeting, you require high emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with staff at all levels, often having to mentor the charities’ managers to help them plan and manage their own budgets.
Your financial responsibilities are substantial as you will have overall control and responsibility for all financial matters. You will be thinking both strategically and seeing the big picture, whilst also analysing figures in detail to ensure that the financial management of both charities are sound. Role Purpose

The Operations Director is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of all operational aspects of Katherine Low Settlement. 1. What excites you about Open Briefing and this role?
2. In this role, you’ll support civic actors facing complex threats from state, corporate, or criminal adversaries. These actors often have limited resources, knowledge, or experience to identify or respond to such risks. What do you see as the key factors when designing effective digital and information security strategies in this context? If possible, please share an example of a role or project in which you tackled similar challenges
3. Our team is diverse in language, culture, location, working style, and employment model. Many of our consultants work with us part-time, alongside other clients, and are embedded in a wider ecosystem. Your role will be to support their growth, match them to the right work, and integrate their efforts across a broader, cross-functional team. What challenges would you anticipate in leading such a diverse, distributed team? Please share an example of a role in which you managed similar challenges – ideally within a global civil society or service-oriented organisation.
