Join Beat as we start a new and exciting area of work to provide efficient and effective administrative and project support to Beats national officers and project team.
This is an exciting new post that will support the officers in the devolved nations as well as project support for a new project in Scotland. The post holder will be expected to work directly with the national officers and in particular the Scotland officer. The post will involve administrative support for national meetings, handle enquiries, promotion of events and project specific work and customer service / stakeholder relationship management. The position will also involve recruiting volunteers for the project and working with them on a daily basis. The role will be varied but have brilliant support from across the organisation.
The Church of Scotland project this post will support is a three-year project. Beat will be working with Guilds across Scotland, delivering presentations on eating disorders and the services Beat provides, as well as supporting fundraising efforts of individual Guilds. As part of the role, this post will be expected to coordinate and liaise with Guilds to arrange the presentations.

The Role

Job Purpose

Main Accountabilities
The Java Engineer will have responsibility for building and maintaining high quality and maintainable code that is well performing, secure and follows all coding standards. Key duties will focus on:
- Building shippable software following Engineering standards in place
- Developing, building and maintaining all aspects of the platforms Java code
- Ensuring the code delivered is on time and is of the required quality
- Helping to maintain the high standard of the code by following TDD and BDD
- Reviewing code of other developers to ensure the overall code quality and to encourage a collaborative development environment

Person Profile
Experience
- Successful, hands-on experience working in a Java Development role
- Solid experience of developing online transactional applications
- Deep understanding of Java, JEE, servlets and Java frameworks (e.g., Spring, Hibernate)
- Experience in developing RESTful microservices using Java 1.8 or later
- Experience in integrating/consuming Web Services and Rest API’s within Java web applications
- Understanding of security standards and how to make sure they are met e.g. oAuth, PCI
- Understanding of code performance and how this can affect a websites overall loading
- Experience using distributed version control systems e.g. Github, Bitbucket

Location: Greater Glasgow and surrounding area (within 35 mile radius). Nurses will be based regionally but will be required to travel to other areas in the UK for short periods.
Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum (full time equivalent) plus car allowance

Our Cancer Awareness Roadshow was founded in 2006 in partnership with Ronan Keating and the Marie Keating Foundation. It plays a vital role in achieving our vision of beating cancer sooner by directly reaching people most in need with tailored health messages, encouraging them to make positive changes to their health and signposting to local health services. The Roadshow currently consists of three mobile units that visit some of the UK’s most deprived and diverse communities where cancer incidence and mortality rates are significantly above average. Our regular Cancer Awareness Roadshow was developed off the back of the Roadshow in 2015, to enable us to have more in-depth ongoing conversations with people, to help them to sustain change in a supportive environment.
