We are looking for a positive people-focussed and forward-thinking Support Services Nurse, with substantial recent/current experience in haemato-oncology at Band 6 or above, to join our team and provide high-quality information and support to people affected by blood cancer. 

Working via a range of mediums including phone, email, social media and online community forum across a 6-day-a-week service, you will play a central role in working towards our mission of being the generation to beat blood cancer.

This is an exciting 2 day a week role to be part of the growing Newham District Foodbank and Ascension’s Advice Service. On 9th June 2021 Ascension’s foodbank officially became part of the Trussell Trust network. We were named Newham District Foodbank, because our plan is to expand to more than one distribution centre to ensure that people across the whole of Newham are well supported. As part of the strategy, we have already secured funding to have debt and benefit advisors supporting each new distribution centre.

In this role you will manage the poverty response work of Ascension Community Trust, including its foodbank. You will provide high level strategic work, including liaising with donors, referral partners and other local foodbanks and support new partners into Newham District Foodbank. Your role will include fundraising for and reporting on the work of Newham District Foodbank, including local partnership funding. The purpose of the role

You will work closely alongside the refuges Team Leader and Service Manager to implement and deliver a trauma informed approach to refuge services.

About the Role

The primary role of a Family Support Worker is to provide effective, efficient, and supportive service to children and their mothers residing in refuge with Solace Women’s Aid. The staff member will lead on the development of a child and family-centred approach to work in the refuge. In so doing, they will:

• Develop and deliver a range of trauma-informed services to children and young people (0-17 years) and their mothers within the refuge and when they are resettled into the community.
• Ensure ongoing development of age-appropriate children’s activities.
• Ensure the completion of comprehensive assessments of family needs and risk of families, ensuring an integrated approach with children and adult services (internal and external)
• Promote ‘Integrated Working’ through internal and external mechanisms in partnership with colleagues and community partnerships.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable children, young people, and/or families, as well as knowledge of the effects that domestic abuse can have on young people.

1 in 10 children in the UK have serious emotional and behavioural difficulties, which place them at further risk of negative outcomes later in life. The Refuge Service provide emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and sexual violence. Refuge Case workers provide emotional and practical support this can include housing support, legal options, reporting to the police, help around child contact, benefits, financial advice and accessing therapeutic support services.

About the Role

You will provide advice and support to women who have experienced domestic abuse in a refuge setting.  You will carry out risk and needs assessments, develop support plans and carry out key work with women survivors. You should have a minimum of two years’ experience of working with this or a similar client group. An in depth understanding of the needs of women and children from a diverse background is essential.

About You

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

You will have experience of managing risk and following case management procedures to meet the needs of the client group, and the ability to work with women to help them to understand their needs, risk assess, develop safety plan and support them in linking with other agencies.  

You will have a working knowledge of the available legal remedies, housing and welfare benefits, as well as experience of providing workshops.

In addition to case management you will be required to undertake housing management responsibilities including health and safety and maintenance of the refuges.  You will have excellent administrative and time management skills.

About The Team

Shelter’s Legal Team provide legal expertise and representation across our Services. You will be part of our National Legal Team and will work closely with our Telephone and Online Advice Service (TOAS) to identify trends in issues experienced by people using the service.  

About the role

Your role will be to work within the National Legal Team to support the TOAS team to recognise vulnerable clients who need urgent legal help, at the sharpest end of the housing crisis, struggling to advocate for themselves in appalling housing conditions or stuck in temporary accommodation.

Your role will be to provide legal early intervention to clients and families who have safeguarding concerns.

You will act on a consultancy basis for TOAS and provide advice and legal representation on behalf of the client and/or their family, authorising and arranging temporary accommodation and any associated hardship claims. Should a safeguarding referral be made, you will follow up on those referrals to ensure that the appropriate outcome is achieved.

You will also be supported to work with relevant stakeholders to address systemic matters that contribute to homelessness and advocate for systematic change to break the cycle for other vulnerable clients and their families.

About You

Qualified as a Solicitor, you will have a strong knowledge of housing law and be used to managing your caseload including time recording. You will need to meet the Housing/Debt Supervisor standard and have demonstrable experience in litigation and court advocacy, carry out file reviews and be proactive about your professional development and continuous improvement.

The Role

Are you passionate about working with communities across Greater London, helping to reduce the harmful impact gambling can have on individuals and families? 

Do you want to make a difference by raising awareness of gambling-related harms within community groups across Greater London, helping to build confidence in talking openly about gambling and the support available from our service?

If so, one of the key priorities of GamCare London is to reach out to individuals, families, and communities to make it easier to talk about gambling and gambling related harms. This is done by working across the area to engage with underserved communities, ensuring everyone can access information and support.

Crucially, you’ll be responsible for building effective working partnerships with professional services through the delivery of presentations, networking and creating new referral pathways. Your role will be integral in making the service accessible, by embedding support for gambling related harm across communities in Greater London.

Working hours are usually 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, however, to meet the needs of the service the role might include some evenings and occasional weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Participation in service promotion, networking activities and events to support visibility and ongoing development of the service 
• Development and maintenance of relationships with local services and communities, providing information to support identification of gambling harms and pathways into service
• Development of collaborative working relationships with external agencies, professionals, and groups, and delivering presentations on gambling harms and how to support people to access the service
• Providing advice, brief and extended brief interventions to people affected by gambling harms

About you

As the successful candidate you’ll be an excellent communicator (written and verbal) and have th ability to present and tailor content for a range of professional and public audiences on sensitive topics.

You will be experienced in community-based work and have the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, to champion our vision for gambling support in Greater London.
