The Employment Advisor- Young People will provide progression mentoring and employability support to military family members and manage a diverse caseload of young people affected by military life, specifically civilian children aged 16-24 of a serving or veteran parent/guardian.

About the role

The Administrative Assistant (Advice and Information) role provides important administrative support to our small, friendly Advice and Information Team. The role will focus on providing administrative support to the following two parts of the wider team:  

- The Outbound Permanence service. This provides specialist advice by email, supported by legal research, country-specific written guidance, and individual consultations where necessary, to local authority social workers and lawyers considering the placement of children in care proceedings with relatives and friends overseas on all legal orders. The service also delivers regular training and events.

- CoramBAAF members’ Advice Line. This covers all aspect of adoption, fostering, kinship and related areas in the UK. It is busy and popular with professionals, primarily social workers, who use the service. It offers telephone and email advice, prioritising speed, and quality of service.

We are looking to recruit an Employment & Learning Advisor to work effectively as a member of the Centre and the Employment & Learning team to progress a caseload of clients on their journey into meaningful and sustainable employment. You would be responsible for coordinating a range of employment-focused provision through 1:1 interventions, workshops, courses, and supplementary training opportunities to improve clients’ confidence and skills to increase their employability and household income potential. We are looking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Information & Advice team provide information, advice and support to people aged 60 and over, living in Waltham Forest. The purpose of the job is to deliver advice to those housebound or not able to travel to The Hub, so it will involve home visits throughout the Borough. It will include assisting clients to maximize their income through providing benefits calculations, help to complete forms, provide advice resources and some supervision of volunteers. You will have good interpersonal skills, have proficient database skills and enjoy working as part of a team. Experience of benefits advice and another language is desirable.

The post-holder will maintain a manageable caseload of clients needing support with their welfare rights and benefits. The role is to support the Welfare Rights Advice Project Team with the following:

1. To carry out an initial client assessment, identifying any issues with their benefits and any claims they can make to maximise their income.
2. Provide casework (including challenging decisions) for welfare benefits available to clients with mental health difficulties and their carers: i.e. Personal Independence Payments, Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit.
3. Provide information and advice as appropriate about issues related to a client’s particular situation.
4. Provide advice and casework for mobility and discretionary schemes and personal grants that could be of benefit to clients.
5. Take referrals directly from service users, carers or staff from other agencies (encouraging use of our online referral form)
6. Signpost and refer clients to agencies that assist with transition from hospital to community living, or to tackle social isolation and improve mental wellbeing.
7. Maintain records in accordance with Hear Us policies and procedures, including the handling of confidential and private documents and keeping written and computer records up to date and secure.
8. Liaise with GPs, CMHT’s and other agencies to obtain supporting documents, by telephone, letter and e-mail.
9. Taking confidential telephone messages from clients and outside agencies.
10. Take part in weekly WRAP team meetings regarding case allocation, and stay up to date with changes in benefits legislation. 
11. Attend regular supervision and yearly appraisals with line manager.
12. Assist WRAP manager to write reports and evaluate the project for funding bids and to support and promote the project.
13. Collect and distribute flyers and leaflets for signposting purposes.

International Care Network (ICN) is a Christian charity whose aim is to help to rebuild the lives of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. We are seeking an experienced IAA1 Immigration Advisor to join our friendly team. We need an Advisor accredited to deliver IAA1 Level 2 or Level 3 advice, or a solicitor/barrister with immigration experience. In this role, you will work with marginalised adults and families, guiding them through complex immigration journeys with compassion and professionalism. Thus, you will play a critical role in helping people find hope and stability in the challenging environment of being a migrant in the UK.

You will take a holistic approach to supporting and empowering our service users/clients, working with the rest of the ICN team and partner organisations to ensure their needs are met and barriers addressed. Specifically, you will manage your own immigration caseload, concentrating on applications involving family, private life and other human rights matters as well as protection routes. Although ICN does not currently take on asylum cases, you will provide information, advice and referral to other organisations for people seeking asylum.

This is a newly developed Careers Advisor role is funded by the North East Combined Authority and forms a core part of our strategy to improve employment outcomes for women from Black and racially minoritised communities who are not currently in work or education. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified Careers Advisor to rebuild and lead an impactful careers service within the Angelou Centre.

Many of the women we support have English as an additional language and face multiple barriers to employment. They are survivors who are on a journey to rebuilding their independence and therefore may require additional training support with household budgeting, life skills or understanding the public transport system amongst other things. Your work will directly support women to take confident, supported steps into training, volunteering and work often for the first time in the UK.

This role combines direct client work with strategic development with support from the Senior Administrator. You’ll be responsible for managing individual development plans and setting SMART goals with our service users, building local opportunity networks, and helping to develop a robust data recording system to demonstrate outcomes and impact.

Person Specification

Experience & Skills

• Experience providing career advice to adults, ideally those facing multiple and complex barriers.

Knowledge & Qualifications

• Level 4–6 qualification in Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG).

The main area of support is to claim welfare benefits and other forms of financial support – but also includes a range of other topics such as accessing care & support; independent living; sorting out paperwork and housing.  

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Welfare Benefits Advisor to join the team.  The role will include: 

• Providing welfare benefits & financial advice, including advising older people on the financial support available, making applications on their behalf and following through applications to result.

• Providing Information & Advice on other topics older people require support with.

• Providing support via home visits, over the phone and in community settings.

We are looking for: 

• Experience of giving information & advice.

Salary and Progression

Trainee Debt Advisor starting salary of £24,477.20 with the opportunity to progress to a Debt Advisor role with a salary of £26,664.75 usually within 12 months. Further progression is available to a Senior Debt Advisor with a salary of £28,957.27, usually after 2 years (based on meeting necessary performance and development criteria).

After this there are manager and specialist roles that may become available to apply to for further career progression.
 

Location

Bradford or Blantyre office based initially during training, with a hybrid working split between home and the office after completion of initial training. There is also the option to work entirely from the office if preferred. Initial training will include one week in our Bradford Head Office.

As a Trainee Debt Advisor you will complete a comprehensive programme of classroom training, online training, exams and on the job sign off to equip you to be able to bring expert advice and support our clients in their journey to becoming debt free.

Once you step into one team, you will be working in a fast paced, but rewarding environment. As a debt advisor you will be creating bespoke advice, crafted to help each client gain greater control over their finances. Whether it is negotiating with creditors, or reassuring a distressed caller, as a debt advisor you’ll be demonstrating the highest standard of service, demonstrating both expertise in knowledge but also genuine care for those we are working with. 

What a debt advisor does:

• Build budgets to support clients in managing their finances

• Create tailored advice plans to give suitable options to become debt free

• Negotiate with creditors to create a sustainable payment plan and stop further debt collection 

• Resolve client queries over phone, email and SMS

• Working with partner churches in running their local debt centres

Accountabilities:

• Complete the Debt Advisor classroom and online training course

• Create a client budget from information gathered by CAP centre staff, reviewing documentation, identifying further queries and applying guidance to expenditure

• To advise clients on their best options to deal with their financial difficulties. This includes formulating a strategy to become debt free, as well as broader advice relevant to their financial situation 

• Identify potential enforcement action against clients, negotiating with creditors to establish sustainable plans for repaying debts (or holding further enforcement action)

• Complete Phone training and achieve sign off for call handling 

• To deal with client and creditor queries as they arise through the various communication methods available; including phones, post, emails and SMSs 

• Amend and update client budgets with changes to their circumstances and identify when a change of circumstance impacts a clients route option

• Pass sign off for advice creation 

• To demonstrate patience and resilience whilst helping clients with multiple complex needs, ensuring that CAP continues to deliver the very best for the very least 

• To proactively manage clients’ cases toward a debt free conclusion, completing workflow tasks as required and complying with CAP’s Debt Help Policy and Procedures at all times

• To liaise with and work alongside other Debt Operations departments

• To communicate with the CAP debt coaches regarding the status of their client’s cases

• Measurable Outputs:

  • Achieve a Pass in the required exams to complete the Debt Advisor training course

  • Achieve sign off within 12 months of starting the role 

   

  Other responsibilities include:

  • Being willing to pray with staff and fully engaged with our Christ-centered  culture.

  • Encouraging friends, family and other contacts to support the charity through the Life Changer programme and other fundraising initiatives.

  • Attending annual CAP staff conferences.

To assist in providing an efficient and effective Welfare Benefits service within the various foodbank hubs to assess eligibility, maximise income and review and appeal decisions as appropriate. Required to provide advice through various service delivery points, including outreach locations.

Main Responsibilities: 

• Uphold the aims and principles of the Helping Hands Community Trust and the Leicester South Foodbank.
• Work within the service’s ethos and values, especially regarding equality and discrimination.
• Work within health and safety guidelines, sharing responsibility for own health and safety and that of colleagues.
• Keep up to date with legislation, policies and procedures and undertake appropriate training.
• Provide confidential, specialist, advice to clients at our main hub and in consultation with the Operational manager, outreach surgeries and venues across Leicester and Leicestershire
• Present a range of solutions, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages according to the client’s personal situation and make recommendations based on this information
• Ensure that all advice and solutions are presented in accordance with the charity’s policies and procedures and in line with AQS
• Assessing client needs through confidential interviews and hold a personal caseload
• Keeping confidential records, updates and training on our CMS (AdvicePro)
•  Adhere to our Safeguarding, confidentiality and GDPR Policies and procedures
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policies and practices in relation to Welfare Benefits, and sharing such information to other members of the team
• Maximise benefit to clients by working closely with Money/Debt Advisors within our team.
• Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the line manager.
• Prepare for and attend supervision sessions/team meetings/staff meetings/annual appraisals as appropriate.
• Work to Key Performance Indicators at AQS quality standards.

 Casework

• Using the AdvicePRO database to maintain electronic case records, for the purpose of continuing casework and information retrieval. These records must be inputted onto the database immediately following the appointment to ensure the records are up to date and accurate
• Act where necessary by calculating, drafting or writing letters and producing written submissions for clients as appropriate
• Provide advice work covering the full range of Welfare Benefits law.
• Negotiate with third parties.
• Ensure income maximisation through the take up of appropriate benefits.
• Prepare paper submissions to the appropriate statutory bodies, tribunals and courts as appropriate.
• Assist with related problems where they are an integral part of the case and refer to other advisers or specialists as appropriate.
• Make outreach visits, where necessary and subject to resources and risk assessments.
• Provide advice and assistance to staff and volunteers across the whole range of Welfare Benefits issues.
• Ensure that all casework conforms to the AQS quality standard.

Administration:

• Make recommendations for improvements to services.
• Effectively utilise AdvicePRO for statistical recording, case recording & document production.
• Provide 1 Case study/Good news story Monthly to the line manager
• Keep up to date with policies and procedures
• Undertake appropriate training relevant to the role, including CPD Courses.

Deputy Safeguarding Advisor

The Deputy Safeguarding Advisor is a very important role at the Diocese, as you will provide advice to parishes on safeguarding issues, cases and incidents to help ensure that our parishes, the Cathedral and the Diocesan offices discharge their responsibilities for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults who may be at risk of abuse or neglect.

Reporting to the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer and working within the Safeguarding Team, you will support and carry out casework which will also include reviewing safety plans and/or safeguarding agreements, assessing and managing risk of harm and undertaking risk assessments on blemished DBS checks or Confidential Declarations.

As Deputy Safeguarding Advisor, you will provide best practice advice to all stakeholders and partners as well as participating in the Diocese of Canterbury’s Safeguarding Executive Group and Diocesan and Cathedral Safeguarding Advisory Panel, whilst taking responsibility for preparing reports when requested.

Working closely with the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer, you will also coordinate the Diocese’s response to victims and survivors of church-based abuse which includes ensuring that victims and survivors are assisted in accessing relevant support services.

With a relevant professional qualification or equivalent (for example, social care or criminal justice) you should have significant experience of undertaking safeguarding risk assessments and professional safeguarding expertise and experience in a relevant statutory, voluntary, or judicial agency. 

Practitioner experience of working with victims and survivors of abuse and with offenders and perpetrators of abuse, is also essential.

You should have an understanding of the broader safeguarding field including its social and political context along with an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation in relation to safeguarding children and adults, as well as having experience in using appropriate interview models with victims, survivors, and respondents.

Experience of contributing to case review processes and identifying and disseminating lessons to be learnt, e.g. Serious Case Review, Domestic Homicide Reviews, would be desirable. It would also be beneficial but not essential for you to have an understanding and good working knowledge of the Church of England, its organisation and governance structures.

You will be required to travel across the Diocese for meetings, so the ability to travel to remote locations and work flexibly is a necessity. This role will also be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The Diocese of Canterbury Diocesan Safeguarding Team provides professional safeguarding guidance in line with the Church of England’s Safeguarding Code of Practice, House of Bishop’s Guidance, and the Church of England National Safeguarding Standards.
