Are you a customer-focused individual with recent experience of providing specialist level debt advice? Then join Shelter as a Specialist Debt Adviser supporting client-facing debt advisers with their complex casework, contributing to resources and helping us to influence the debt advice sector.

About the Team

Our Specialist Debt Advice service works with front-line debt advisers based across England & Wales, providing support with their complex case work. The service currently operates between 9-5 Monday to Friday, with advisers offering live support to clients on a rota basis throughout the week.

About the Role

As a Specialist Debt Adviser, you will be responsible for handling phone and email enquiries to the service, using diagnostic questioning to fully establish the caller's enquiry and providing detailed and timely responses. We'll also rely on you to identify and act upon any emergency enquiries and prioritise your workload accordingly. Helping our Team to produce written and on-line content and provide service users with the latest developments in debt regulation, policy and good practice will be important too.

About you

You are someone who champions user-focused advice and who can take complex language and processes and make them easy to understand for professional advisers and other audiences. You will need excellent all-round understanding of debt advice, with experience of producing written and on-line resources, including guidance documents, webinars and attendance at networking events, providing service users with the latest debt regulation, policy and good practice. You have good typing skills and proficiency using Microsoft office applications and case management and reporting systems.

About the role

We are looking for someone solutions-focussed with expertise in delivering needs-led specialist support services to be our new National LGBT+ Independent Sexual Violence Advocate.

This role builds on work that we have been doing for decades to support and empower LGBT+ people who have experienced sexual violence. Your work will enable LGBT+ people to feel supported, heard and empowered in the face of abuse and violence, and pave the way to a safer future for our community.

You will work directly with LGBT+ victims/survivors, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related experiences of sexual violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while remaining boundaried and mindful of self-care.

You will sit alongside our other advocates supporting LGBT+ people facing abuse or violence. You will work with mainstream services to ensure the voices and experiences of LGBT+ survivors are represented in order to make change for our community at a local and national level. You will also work closely with key partner organisations by attending meetings and have the opportunity to take part in external work to ensure a joined-up approach among services working with LGBT+ people facing abuse and violence.

About the Role

We're looking for highly motivated and committed individuals to provide specialist advice and representation on welfare benefits, grants and financial support, managing a caseload that includes complex cases, mandatory reconsiderations and appeals. The Money & More Benefits Caseworker supports clients across all stages of the cancer pathway, including diagnosis, treatment, palliative care and end-of-life support. You will deliver advice through a range of channels including telephone, email, digital platforms and face-to-face appointments within healthcare and community settings.

Key duties include:

· Deliver specialist welfare benefits advice and casework.

· Manage a varied caseload, including complex benefit appeals and tribunal work.

· Support clients to maximise income through benefits, grants and other financial assistance.

· Advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients with third parties.

· Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, community organisations and partner agencies.

· Maintain accurate case records and meet quality assurance standards.

· Contribute to service development, research and campaigns work.

About You

The ideal candidates will have:

· Significant experience providing welfare benefits advice and casework, including Mandatory Reconsiderations and Appeals

· A strong understanding of welfare benefits legislation and financial support available to vulnerable clients

· Experience supporting vulnerable people using a person-centred and empathetic approach

· Experience managing a caseload and achieving targets and deadlines
