As CFG's Policy Officer you will make an impactful contribution to CFG's policy and advocacy work. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, including policy-makers, charity members and corporate partners, you will contribute to the smooth running of the Policy Team's work and effectiveness. You will be comfortable using your research and analytical skills to ensure CFG remains at the forefront of its advocacy work on behalf of its members and the wider sector. CFG promotes remote-first working, although we do have office space at our registered address in Southwark, SE London for those team members who prefer an office setting. All staff anchor days are currently quarterly, and directorate and smaller team anchor days are organised on an ad hoc basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a refuge worker within a refuge service, supporting women and their children fleeing domestic abuse. Your responsibilities will include supporting and advocating for women and children, taking part in the on-call rota, managing day to day running of the refuge; health & safety, safeguarding and supporting the service and deputy manager.

Central England Law Centre (CELC) provides a vital service to clients across Coventry and Birmingham, providing support for all aspects of housing law through a team of dedicated solicitors, caseworkers, paralegals and support workers.

- Promptly cost and bill closed cases in order to meet individual and team targets

About The Team
Shelter’s Legal Team provide legal expertise and representation across our Services. You will be part of our National Legal Team and will work closely with our Telephone and Online Advice Service (TOAS) to identify trends in issues experienced by people using the service.
About the role
Your role will be to work within the National Legal Team to support the TOAS team to recognise vulnerable clients who need urgent legal help, at the sharpest end of the housing crisis, struggling to advocate for themselves in appalling housing conditions or stuck in temporary accommodation.
Your role will be to provide legal early intervention to clients and families who have safeguarding concerns.
You will act on a consultancy basis for TOAS and provide advice and legal representation on behalf of the client and/or their family, authorising and arranging temporary accommodation and any associated hardship claims. Should a safeguarding referral be made, you will follow up on those referrals to ensure that the appropriate outcome is achieved.
You will also be supported to work with relevant stakeholders to address systemic matters that contribute to homelessness and advocate for systematic change to break the cycle for other vulnerable clients and their families.
About You
Qualified as a Solicitor, you will have a strong knowledge of housing law and be used to managing your caseload including time recording. You will need to meet the Housing/Debt Supervisor standard and have demonstrable experience in litigation and court advocacy, carry out file reviews and be proactive about your professional development and continuous improvement.

About the role

- Provide a comprehensive independent living advice service to people experiencing difficulties with day-to-day living, mobility, and self-care, or to those caring for someone in this situation, ensuring they have sufficient and appropriate information to make informed choices, working in a way which empowers them to take and maintain control of their own lives
- Complete person-centred and holistic assessments, using information from Occupational Therapists and other health and social care professionals as necessary, to establish their eligibility for support services in their area, and provide advice on support options available to people via statutory, charitable, and private sources.
- Provide a person-centred support service within a designated region to include some home visits, and other face-to-face activities in local communities as required.
- Manage a diverse and often complex caseload covering matters relating to care assessments and care fees, Disabled Facilities Grants, equipment and minor adaptations, Direct Payments, personal budgets, disability advocacy, and access to other funding streams as appropriate.

You will work between police custody and criminal courts. You will assess, advise and refer offenders, providing them with the opportunity to access treatment to address their substance use. Working with courts, you will promote the use of Community Sentence Treatment Requirements (Drug Rehabilitations Requirements and Alcohol Treatment Requirements) amongst all court professionals and the judiciary, contributing to Pre-Sentence Reports and advocate for our service users.
You will be responsible for delivering all elements of substance use work, including assertive engagement, harm reduction support (including naloxone provision), as well as other associated duties. You need to have an understanding of the issues faced by people who use drugs and alcohol, and who commit crime, and be dedicated to delivering a service that supports these individuals to make positive changes to their behaviour, health and well-being.

Communication, Outreach, and Advocacy
- Streamline internal project communications with the partner cohort and other key stakeholders to enhance efficiency and clarity of messaging.
- Support the design and implementation of communication strategies and advocacy tools, including developing advocacy campaigns and communication materials.
- Work with the partner cohort to identify key advocacy opportunities and relevant forums through which to promote the rights and needs of marginalised communities in Afghanistan.
- Work with partners to engage with policymakers, influencers, and advocacy networks to raise awareness of the project’s advocacy agenda and influence policy direction.
- Create engaging and informative content for various communication channels, such as newsletters and blogs, highlighting the project’s impact and success stories.
