Asylum Justice is the only charity in Wales - and one of very few in the UK - providing free legal advice and representation to people seeking asylum, refugees, and other migrants who are excluded from legal aid. Every day, we help people navigate a hostile system, challenge injustice, and secure safety for themselves and their families.
Demand for our services is higher than ever. In the past year alone, our caseload increased by nearly 50%, and we've taken on more complex, urgent cases - including supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and people at immediate risk of destitution or deportation.
We’re now looking for a Funding Officer to join our small, committed team and help secure the resources we need to sustain and grow our work. About the role
This is a hands-on, varied role that combines fundraising, relationship management, and impact storytelling. You’ll work closely with our Legal Director and wider team to:
- Research and identify funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, and statutory sources
- Write compelling funding bids and reports that reflect our impact and values
- Maintain excellent relationships with funders and support project coordination with delivery partners
- Coordinate grant reporting and keep accurate records of income, spend, and deadlines
- Support internal monitoring and evaluation to strengthen our evidence base
- Help develop our approach to individual giving, fundraising events, and donor communications

Position Overview
The Senior Programme Officer will support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ advocacy and awareness, and building UK-Palestine higher education links programmes. This role involves working closely with the director, wider team, and partners, managing projects, and ensuring the effective delivery of initiatives aimed at mobilising support for Palestinian universities and raising awareness about the challenges faced by Palestinian students and educators.
The role requires excellent coordination, communication, and partnership-building skills, including supporting structured engagement with Palestinian higher education representatives through regular convening, briefings, and follow-up.
Key responsibilities
1. Building UK–Palestinian Academic Links

Support the development and implementation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual building links plan in line with programme and organisational goals.

Support the design and delivery of partnerships and collaborative projects with Palestinian universities, including research, fellowships, and exchange initiatives.

Liaise with partners in Palestine and the UK to map opportunities for meaningful and equitable cooperation.

Contribute to organising Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual conference.
2. Advocacy & Awareness-Raising

Support the development and implementation of Friends of Palestinian Universities’ annual advocacy & awareness plan in line with programme and organisational goals.

Research and prepare public-facing resources (e.g. briefings, reports, speaker events) for academic, policy, and civil society audiences.

Build relationships with UK-based higher education networks, staff unions, academic departments, and student societies.

Contribute to organising Friends of Palestinian Universities’ Education, Occupation & Liberation programme of events.

Support the Director and Palestinian partner representatives with research and briefings as necessary for public facing engagements.
3. Monitoring & Evaluation

Work to achieve KPIs agreed in the annual work plan.

Work with the Director to plan and evaluate programme strategy and delivery.

Monitor programme impact and contribute to reporting for donors, Trustees, and partners.

Represent Friends of Palestinian Universities in coalitions, conferences, and sector forums as appropriate and with the agreement of the Director.

BIAS’s welfare and housing advice service supports members of the local Irish community and beyond with a range of complex issues, including disability benefits, pensions, Universal Credit, Irish passports, homelessness, rehousing, tenancy sustainment and disrepair. We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic person who has a background or demonstrable interest in advice, welfare or housing to join our friendly advice team. Your role will involve contributing to the establishment, expansion and day-to-day running of BIAS’s advice service in Haringey borough, providing specialist advice on welfare and housing via one-to-one client appointments, completing casework and advocating for positive outcomes for your clients.
You will need to have strong people skills and the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, clients and partners, an aptitude for working independently, excellent organisational skills and the ability to digest complex briefs. You will be required to manage an active caseload, ensuring that cases are appropriately actioned and recorded and that deadlines are met. You will work with the Advice Services Manager to build and develop the new advice service in Haringey, ensuring that we replicate our excellent quality of service, strong record of positive outcomes and loyal client base.

KEY WORK AREAS AND MAIN DUTIES

- Contributing to monitoring service delivery and recording client outcomes.

- Participating in regular team file reviews and supervision sessions, and contributing to maintaining BIAS’s high-quality service in line with Advice Quality Standard (AQS) requirements.

- Staying up to date with developments in welfare benefits and housing legislation and identifying opportunities to effect positive policy change, together with the Advice Services Manager.
These are the basic duties required of the Welfare and Housing Adviser. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and you may be required from time to time to perform other reasonable duties which are required for the efficient running of the organisation. We will also offer training opportunities to support your career development.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. This role will be based in our advice venues in Haringey[1], with some presence required at our main office in Willesden and some options for flexible working (i.e. one or two days per week).

Working location: mostly remote work with some travel required. Full training will be provided under the guidance of our dedicated Training Officer. You will help shape monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting processes, ensuring the organisation is continually improving how it generates and uses evidence.

To succeed in this role, you will bring substantial experience of working in humanitarian contexts on resilience and climate programming, ideally with an international organisation. You should have a deep understanding of humanitarian architecture, key donors, and external standards, as well as hands-on experience with resilience approaches such as disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture or natural resource management. A strong grounding in feminist and human-rights-based approaches is essential, along with a clear understanding of anti-racism and what it means to decolonise aid in practice. You should be comfortable supporting teams, conducting analysis, generating research, communicating complex ideas with clarity, and representing an organisation publicly. The role will also require regular overseas travel, sometimes to insecure environments at short notice.
A postgraduate degree, experience in Africa, Asia or the Middle East, additional languages and academic publications are all beneficial but not essential.
