Diet, microplastics, climate change, e-cigarettes, Alzheimer’s....if it's in the news and it’s controversial, the SMC will be working hard to pump out accurate, evidence-based science into the 24 hour news media.

But this frenetic media operation must have rock-solid operations support behind it.  It needs a highly competent, confident, organised and efficient individual who supports the SMC’s mission but loves running the operations behind the scenes.  The successful candidate will be a calm, self-sufficient problem solver who makes the charity run smoothly and who takes satisfaction from ensuring that the team of energetic, dynamic press officers can make a difference to science in the media every day.

The Head of Operations and Governance is a key member of senior staff.  You will be either a practised operations specialist looking for a new challenge or someone with relevant experience looking to step up to their first role leading operations.  In this role, you will:

• Be responsible for financial management, fundraising admin, preparation of annual accounts and bookkeeping
• Support the CEO in fundraising initiatives and project admin
• Provide the operational underpinning for the Centre ensuring the smooth running of IT, events, contracts and all office systems
• Act as secretariat to the Board of Trustees, Advisory Committee, Remuneration Committee and Audit and Risk Committee
• Guide the governance of the charity and complete statutory reporting. 

You must be highly organised and have a clear head for numbers and systems.  Often working under your own steam and multitasking to tight deadlines, you will need to be efficient and committed to the unique needs of this role without being drawn into the science and media activities of the Centre. 

Experience of the charity sector, finance and/or governance is an advantage.

Starting salary: £41,400-£56,700 depending on experience, with an annual performance-related pay increase

Job Title: Visitor Experience Manager

Hours of work: 21 hours per week.

Salary: £24,000

Role Description

Working with other staff and volunteers, you will oversee the visitor experience to ensure a consistently high standard, delivering a wide-ranging programme of activities that will also attract a new and diverse audience to the Cathedral whilst maximising visitor donations and income.

Key Responsibilities

• Commitment to the Cathedral’s values and inclusive culture and to demonstrate them through professional behaviour working with clergy, staff and volunteers
• Management and oversight of visitor experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience, whether they come to the Cathedral as a sightseer, pilgrim, worshipper, or event attendee
• Ensure safe recruitment, induction, training and management of paid Welcome Assistants to offer a consistently high standard of welcome and increase donated income
• Liaise with all volunteer groups involved in the visitor experience, including Welcome Stewards, Chaplains, Tower Tour Guides, Tour Guides, LEGO model builders to ensure consistency of welcome
• Deliver an exciting programme of visitor events and activities that generates income and growth whilst supporting the Cathedral’s Mission, Values and Strategic Objectives
• Make connections between Cathedral attractions, the Cathedral shop and Pilgrims’ Kitchen restaurant, and support a culture of collaboration to develop and enhance the experience for visitors
• Support the work of the Volunteer Manager to ensure that volunteers are appropriately recruited, valued, trained (particularly in respect of safeguarding), communicated with, and acknowledged)
• Work with the Head Verger/Event Manager on key projects which impact the visitor experience and drive visitor footfall
• Work with the Head Verger/Event Manager to propose and develop new and innovative projects/exhibitions to appeal to the local, and repeat visit, audience
• Be proactive in key events/projects which have a direct visitor impact, in terms of planning, scheduling and onsite operations
• Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure a consistent visitor offer ensuring positive messaging and promotion and highlight good news and events
• To present the best possible image of the Cathedral in general and in all contact and communications with the public, visitors, suppliers and all other external organisations
• Ensure high quality effective signage is in place that promotes the activities of the Cathedral and supports the visitor experience
• Maintain high quality interpretation in a range of media to meet differing visitor needs
• · Act as the ‘accessibility and diversity champion’ to ensure the Cathedral buildings, facilities and services are accessible for visitors with mobility and other special needs, as well as being involved in projects to create a wider appeal, particularly more diverse audiences
• Be alert to opportunities to work with partners in the town and County to bring visitors to the Cathedral
• Produce and manage a relevant and realistic budget for Visitor Experience and ensure operation within that budget are constantly monitored, forecasting and reporting performance against budget in conjunction with the Chief Finance Officer
• Regularly review, analyse, and report on visitor statistics to identify next steps and future requirements
• Uphold and comply with the organisation’s policies and the law in relation to health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding, data protection and other adopted policies and procedures as required

Probationary and notice period

In accordance with current Chapter Policy, the post is subject to a 12 week probationary period. After completion of the probationary period the notice period is one month.

Pension

After 12 weeks’ service, the post-holder with be auto-enrolled into a pension scheme with the Church Workers Pension Fund.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable Finance Manager who will provide accurate and timely financial reporting for the denomination, advise budget holders and senior stakeholders on all financial related matters, have oversight of a small finance team and provide support to local congregational treasurers on charity finance and best practice. 

The Finance Manager will have strong accounting skills, be experienced in financial reporting, be highly organised and self-motivated and will have a desire to manage Church finances well. Experience of charity finance and guiding non-finance stakeholders would be helpful. 

There is an Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 for the post holder to be a committed Christian. As such, the successful candidate will be a Christian with an active commitment in a local church congregation, who is supportive of the values, aims and ethos of the Free Church of Scotland.

This Finance Manager role is based in the Central Office in Edinburgh with the option of some remote working. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to use their professional skills in a vocational Christian role. 

Key responsibilities include producing monthly management accounts, budgets, completing VAT returns, managing and supporting end to end monthly payroll process, managing a small finance team.

Based in Surrey, the Orpheus Centre is an independent specialist college and charity that focuses on developing independence skills through performing and visual arts and makes dramatic improvements to young disabled adults’ lives.  We are currently looking for a driven and pro-active Events Fundraiser to develop, coordinate and deliver the charity’s fundraising events and orchestrate experiences from initial concept to post event analysis. Job Purpose

To provide confidential, accessible, and high-quality counselling support to students aged 16–18 and apprentices at Ada, the National College for Digital Skills. The counsellor will play a key role in promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive mental health to enable students to thrive academically, socially, and personally. The role supports the college’s mission to empower a diverse generation of digital pioneers by removing emotional barriers to learning and contributing to a safe and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Student Support

• Provide one-to-one counselling sessions to students and apprentices, including those experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress, trauma, and/or personal issues.
• Deliver short-term, goal-focused therapeutic interventions based on students’ needs and referral pathways.
• Maintain appropriate and confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR). Using the College’s CPOMS systems to record sessions.

2. Collaboration and Safeguarding

• Work closely with the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead, to assess risk and provide timely interventions.
• Attend and contribute to safeguarding meetings, case conferences, and strategy discussions where appropriate.

• Provide monthly intervention and support reports to the Assistant Principal Learner Services and College DSL.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Qualified counsellor or psychotherapist (minimum Level 4 diploma or equivalent).
• Registered member of a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, NCS).
• Experience of working with young people (16–18) and/or apprentices in an education or youth setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to student welfare.
• Ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and cultural awareness.

Desirable:

• Experience of working in a further education or sixth-form environment.
• Familiarity with digital safeguarding risks and challenges faced by digitally engaged young people.
• Understanding of intersectional mental health needs (e.g., LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, BAME students).

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with strong attention to detail and experience of post-award administration and budget reporting to support our organisational Finance administration, including grant-related budget reporting.

As we are a small organisation, we are looking for someone who is a good team player, keen to be involved in other projects as necessary, and prepared to show willingness to go beyond the terms of the job description. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WHL Finance Administrative Tasks

• Tracking and reconciliation of WHL credit card transactions;

• Recording and reconciliation of donation income

• Recording invoices and expense claims using our account package (SAGE)

• Drafting communications including reports and letters

• Supporting fundraising applications, reporting and communications, including quarterly reporting for special projects.

• Any ad hoc tasks as required.

EHRI-UK and Other Post-Award Tasks:

• Monitor and track WHL EHRI-UK and EHRI budgets, including for EHRI-UK Fellowships

• Monitor and track other expenditure, budgets, invoices and other financial aspects of grants.

Person Specification

Essential Skills:

• Ability to analyse, interpret and report on complex data and information

• Track record of supporting successful funding bids, especially AHRC, EU or other large-scale bodies

• Experience of research development in a higher education setting and/or the heritage sector, including full economic costing

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail, well organised

• Technical capacities (MS Office suite to analyse and produce data, familiarity with some database software)

• Competency using spreadsheet software such as Excel, e.g. pivot tables, calculation using formulae, sum checks

• Problem-solving skills and creativity 

Desirable skills:

• Bookkeeping experience (especially in Sage)

• Strong English writing and verbal presentation skills

• Foreign language skills, particularly German

• Demonstrable interest in heritage/history

• Experience of not-for-profit sector

This is an important strategic role within our organisation. You will lead the Welcome to All partnership of 10 organisations which supports displaced people in Somerset. You will also provide line management for the managers of the CCS Welcome Hub provision.

You will work with the Head of Programmes, our Commissioners, community leaders, delivery partner organisations and wider stakeholders to ensure that the Welcome to All programme delivers our strategic goals and that we are collaborating effectively with statutory and community based partners, including the wider VCFSE sector.

You will be a key member of the Programmes Team, and will work with our Senior Programmes Manager, Village Agent Programme Manager and Somerset Diverse Communities Programme Manager to ensure that all of our community development work is well integrated; and we are making the most of opportunities, internal and external that will help to improve quality of life for individuals and communities in Somerset.

£28,000 - £32,900 per year

We have an exciting opportunity to join our sector-leading Community Fundraising team as a Community Fundraising Executive.

We’re an ambitious charity with a bold mission and fantastic culture. As a key member of the Community Fundraising team, you’ll work alongside the Community Fundraising Managers, Executives and Co-ordinators to achieve the exciting growth plans in our new 3-year fundraising strategy.

In this role, you’ll take the lead on our DIY walking and cycling fundraising activity, which currently raises over £750k each year. You’ll be responsible for providing outstanding relationship management for our fundraisers, ensuring every supporter feels valued, motivated and proud to be part of our community.

Using data and insight, you’ll spot trends, identify new opportunities and help shape fresh, creative ideas to grow income and improve the supporter experience. You’ll also lead on development projects, like designing new supporter journeys, working closely with teams across the charity to make sure our fundraisers are inspired and supported every step of the way.

What we want from you

We’re looking for someone with knowledge and experience of working in a fundraising environment – ideally within a community or events context. You’ll have a proven track record of delivering brilliant supporter experiences, building genuine relationships and stewarding fundraisers through their events. You’ll understand the importance of meeting supporter needs and how to keep them inspired and connected to the cause.

You’ll bring excellent organisational skills and experience of planning and managing projects with multiple stakeholders, making sure we hit our KPIs and maximise fundraising income. With knowledge of how to plan, deliver and evaluate marketing activity, including digital campaigns on Meta, you’ll be comfortable finding ways to engage new supporters and keep them motivated.

A forward-thinker and natural problem solver, you won’t be afraid to use your initiative and analytical skills to spot opportunities for improvement and help shape new ideas. You’ll have experience developing, or supporting the development of, annual fundraising plans and budgets, and delivering against these to meet targets.

Clear, motivational communication comes naturally to you, whether it’s writing to supporters, updating colleagues or reporting on results. You’ll also be confident using databases to keep accurate records, analyse data and share insights that help us grow.

About the role

We are looking for a very confident, outgoing go-getter who loves using their gregarious personality to influence and enthuse people to get results but also enjoys being organised with strong admin processes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has been involved in influencing organisations, businesses and groups or individuals to sign up to our range of challenge events (e.g. marathons etc.) You will be a part of a small but dynamic marketing and fundraising team and involved in many aspects of our work but focusing on filling and retaining places for our challenge events.

This is a varied role, and you will be someone who loves to multitask; you may be emailing supporters or potential fundraisers, making action plans, contacting organisations, or attending and speaking at events.

You will thrive in this role if you love being organised and doing admin, but love being “out and about” interacting and influencing and motivating people to join events. Please note that you will need to carry and set-up event materials, have access to transport and have a full, clean driving licence. Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Retail Coordinator, you’ll ensure store operations run smoothly, from managing stock and promotions to supporting visual merchandising and staff schedules. You’ll be the link between management and students, helping deliver a seamless customer experience and driving retail performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities of Post-Holder:

Operational Management:

1. Support in the daily operations of UniExpress and the Art Shop, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning. 

2. Support in the effective running of the online website for UON clothing and merchandise.

3. Be responsible for organising and delivering UON clothing and merchandise pop up shops during key events throughout the year e.g. welcome week, open days and Graduations.

Sales and Customer Service:

4. Develop and execute strategies to increase sales and attract new customers.

5. Provide exceptional customer service and handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally.

Team Support:

6. Support in the recruitment, training, and support of student staff for both UniExpress and Art Shop alongside the Retail Manager.

7. Be responsible for creating and managing monthly staff rotas across retail to ensure all areas are covered during peak and opening hours.

Financial Management:

8. Support the Retail Manager in monitoring financial performance, including sales, expenses and student staff wage spend.

9. Oversee the accuracy of daily cashing up, safe counts and POS system reconciliations.

Inventory and Stock Management:

10. Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stock control.

11. Ensure accurate stock records and conduct regular stocktakes.

12. Assist in setting up and monitoring NUS price promotions and discounts.

13. Support in the management of the SUMS EPOS back office for both Retail outlets. 

Marketing and Promotion:

14. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement promotional material. 

15. Engage with the local community to build awareness and support for the charity’s retail outlets.

Compliance and Safety:

16. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including health and safety, licensing, and trading standards, and be the Designated Premises Supervisor for the venue.

17. Participate and comply with NUS retail schemes.

18. Conduct regular risk assessments and implement necessary safety measures.
