Our funding is raised each year, mainly from family trusts and foundations, as well as from individuals, corporates, and international NGOs, with a current annual income of around £2.6m/year. We raise funds based on winner need, and in the coming years are seeking to steadily grow what we provide in support to winners, and so are bolstering the capacity of our team in line with this ambition. 

The Opportunity

We are looking for a diligent and data-minded Grants Assistant to join our small and dynamic team. This new role will support the WFN grants team in monitoring and evaluating active grants, analysing and assessing the charity’s impact, and in the smooth running of our grants programmes. This is an entry level role, ideal for a candidate looking to put their conservation expertise into practice, and to support impactful grassroots conservation work around the world.

The Grants Assistant will support the Head of Grants and Grants and Network Manager in WFN’s application and review processes, grant management, and impact evaluation work, and will support the flow of information about the work our winners are doing on the ground to the rest of the WFN team. GRANTS ASSISTANT - PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential:

· MSc or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. Conservation/ Zoology/ Environmental Science)

· Demonstrable understanding of grassroots conservation projects, issues and solutions (ideally in Asia, Africa, Latin America)

· Data-minded and analytical, with solid understanding of evaluation methods and trends

· Strong writing skills with ability to turn technical reports and language into accessible content for a lay audience

· Efficient and organised, with high attention to detail and ability to manage logistics

· Proficient and comfortable using databases

· Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint

· Flexible ‘can do’ approach and will flourish in a small team and charity environment

· A knowledge of and passion for wildlife conservation

Desirable:

· Experience working and/or travelling in the Global South

· Experience of event organisation

The Role – Individual Giving Assistant Manager

The Fundraising Department of Chester Zoo, a major wildlife charity, with a mission of Preventing Extinction works to secure income which contributes towards the delivery of our strategic development plan and ambitious conservation plan, helping to ensure nature can survive and thrive.

Reporting to the Fundraising & Philanthropy Lead and working with the wider Fundraising team, the Individual Giving Assistant Manager will lead on securing and managing small to medium donations from individuals. This includes our newly created Patron Scheme, multiple fundraising campaigns and all challenge events for the zoo (including Run for Nature).

We are looking for a proactive and conscientious individual who will take a data led approach to raise money in effective and creative ways, working with our Senior Marketing Manager and Senior Data and Insights Manager to identify patterns and drive donations through individual giving. They will also manage and drive revenue through onsite giving mechanisms including in-memory, naming opportunities and point of sale giving – all whilst helping to strengthen our supporter base and foster their long-term relationships with the zoo.

They will work across the organisation to support our team of conservationists and scientists at Chester Zoo to engage, train and support targets within our strategically important field, education and science led projects.

We’re looking for someone who can:

• Fundraising Strategy: Help to develop and implement new plans to continue to grow our Individual Giving income led by the Fundraising & Philanthropy Lead
• Prospect Development: Work with our Senior Marketing Manager and Senior Data and Insights Manager to identify patterns in giving using data from our CRM and drive donations through appeals and public campaigns across the organisation
• Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Develop an annual programme of stewardship and contact opportunities
• Campaigns: Develop and deliver engaging campaigns across multiple channels (direct mail, digital, email, on-site) aiming to grow a sustainable donor base. Monitoring and reporting on campaign performance using data to optimise and drive continuous improvement and donor retention
• Onsite Giving: Maximise onsite giving opportunities including naming around animal habitats and our newly installed Celebration Tree, alongside site wide donation boxes, point of sale items, round-up giving and contactless. Working with the Fundraising Administrator to include coordinating collections, reviewing messaging, reporting and identifying areas for improvement
• Event Management: Work across the organisation to create engagement and stewardship opportunities through events and experiences as the role requires
• Donor Stewardship: Keep accurate records on the database to include all communications, donor plans, pledges, proposals, gifts and restrictions. Work with the Fundraising Administrator to maintain a regular and engaging program of communication with donors, keeping them informed on the impact their donation is having on conservation activities at Chester Zoo well as recognition.
• Reporting and Analysis: Track fundraising progress and report on KPI’s

Our Requirements

• A demonstrable track-record in individual fundraising and/or high-level customer service
• Experience of using a database to manage and track donor gifts, relationships and pipeline
• The ability to create exciting and compelling fundraising campaigns across a range of different channels
• Skilled in managing and developing a portfolio of funders and meeting fundraising targets
• Experience in developing and building long-term donor relationships
• Confident communication skills, motivating supporters, as well as internal and external stakeholders and face-to-face contact with supporters

• Provide full support to the Head of Finance, especially in the preparation of year-end annual statutory accounts for the College and Trading Company including the audit.

The Opportunity

This role at WFN provides an exciting opportunity to lead on the development of our growing Winner Network Development (WND) programme, identified as one of the charity’s key areas for strategic growth and maximised impact over the coming years. We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing communicator who is passionate about conservation and can drive forward and create connections between our global network of over 220 conservationists, fostering knowledge exchange, capacity development and collaboration. As part of this programme the Grants and Network Manager (GNM) will help with delivery of annual thematic training workshops, with opportunity for international travel. The GNM will also assist our Head of Grants (HG) in monitoring our portfolio of active grants, with support from the Grants Assistant (GA). GRANTS AND NETWORK MANAGER - PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Operations Support

• Guide and assist ISEAL staff in using software tools effectively by leading inductions, writing guidance, sharing best practice, providing training and trouble-shooting issues that arise

About Chapter One

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. 

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports over 3,200 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 160 local and national businesses. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. About the Role

The Finance Assistant has responsibility for a variety of finance functions including the purchase and sales ledger, making payments to suppliers, invoicing Corporate Partners and Schools and reconciling bank accounts. They support the day to day running of the Finance Team ensuring that tasks such as posting invoices, reconciling customer accounts, supporting credit control and chasing non-payments are carried out in a timely and accurate fashion. 

The Finance Assistant reports to and works closely with the Head of Finance and plays a critical role in resolving finance queries from Chapter One colleagues, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting internal processes and contributing to the effective financial management of Chapter One. 

This role is ideal for someone who has experience in a similar position within a finance team and has good working knowledge of accounting principles and a basic understanding of income for charities. They will work remotely and will need to have access to a reliable internet connection. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and the post-holder must be permanently based in the UK at the time of applying and for the duration of their employment.

 You will be contracted to our London, Haig House Hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the Hub and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site.

The Development Assistant is an essential part of the Cathedral’s fundraising function and provides important support to the team, streamlining processes, acting as a first point of contact and managing the fundraising database for the organisation.

As Development Assistant you will:

· Have fantastic communication skills and excellent customer service as the first point of contact for all enquiries and managing the Fundraising inbox.

· Enhance the development team through robust administration processes and providing essential administrative support across all income streams, including administering the Cathedral’s Planned Giving scheme.

· Work with the Finance team to efficiently manage payment processes and administration and ensure timely acknowledgement of gifts.

· Support excellent donor engagement and stewardship through thank you letters, mailings, creation of literature and event co-ordination and support.

· Assist collating information and co-ordinating regular supporter communications across different channels to inspire people and demonstrate the impact of support.

· Deepen supporter relationships through accurately recording all income and activities on the Cathedral’s CRM system. Maximise the effectiveness of the CRM and keeping records up to date. (We are currently reviewing our systems, and this role will be instrumental in supporting implementation of any new systems.)

· Assist in the preparation and analysis of data and reports for use by the wider team to support future plans and activity.

· Amplify the prospecting work of the team by undertaking preliminary research and preparing briefing materials, in consultation with members of the team.

· Showcase the work of the Cathedral through supporting event organisation.

· Be keen to develop your fundraising skills and undertake relevant training and skills development to keep up to date with the changing requirements of the role.

· Support the team through additional duties as reasonably required to assist the smooth and efficient running of the Development Team and maximise the impact of the fundraising function. Some weekend and out of hours working may be required.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person to join our small yet ambitious fundraising and communications team at Cherry Trees as Fundraising Assistant. Whilst support and administration are at the heart of this role, you will play a key role in supporting the team across all fundraising areas and could be a great opportunity for someone looking to take their first steps into fundraising and/or administration. We are also committed to offering training/qualifications to support the individual in this role.

We’re looking for someone with great people skills, as well as drive, initiative and determination. You’ll be diligent with details and accuracy, and have a dynamic approach to your work. You will be a natural problem solver, always looking to improve upon current processes to improve on efficiency.

About Cherry Trees

Cherry Trees provides home from home care for children with complex disabilities and a meaningful break for their families across Surrey and the surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

1. Fundraising

• To be the first point of contact for all fundraising enquiries that come in by telephone, email, post, and in person.
• Support the team by recording and sending fundraising materials to those raising money for us through events and challenge event.
• Ensure communications such as letters, certificates and emails are processed in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Provide support to the events, community, partnerships, and individual giving teams and their programmes of activity.
• To develop a good understanding of fundraising activity and to maintain the processes behind registration and online giving platforms such as JustGiving, Benevity, CAF, MuchLoved etc.
• Monitoring and replenishment of office supplies.
• Help to actively promote participation in our fundraising events and activities.
• When necessary, support the communications team with marketing, social media, mailing activity.
• Other general fundraising and administration duties, as and when required to ensure the smooth running of the department including assisting in other team projects when they arise.
• To represent Cherry Trees on occasion at community events or other activity, and being flexible and willing to travel and attend events outside normal office hours (time off in lieu given).
• Support volunteer recruitment and management.

2. Finance

• To ensure all donations/payments are processed and recorded on the fundraising database accurately and within the appropriate time frame, and supporters are thanked in a timely manner.
• To take donations over the phone or guide donors to make their donation online.
• To process the weekly fundraising income and financial reconciliation (training will be provided).

3. Stewardship

• Provide excellent support and stewardship to our supporters, challenge event participants, individual givers, community supporters and volunteers.
• Build, manage and maintain rewarding relationships with existing and new supporters and colleagues and teams across Cherry Trees with a ‘friendly-face’ approach.

4. Information Management and other

• Using the fundraising database (Donorfy) ensure all activity and correspondence is recorded accurately, as well as supporting our team’s financial processes and data export needs (training will be provided).
• Be responsible for ensuring all records are added/maintained/updated on the fundraising database, and ensuring all contact preferences such as unsubscribes are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
• To develop an in-depth knowledge of the database to be the go-to person, and identify opportunities to support your own activity and that of the team.
• Continuously aim to improve the efficiency of administration processes necessary for the smooth running of the fundraising department.
• Create/update how-to guides within your area of responsibility.
• GDPR compliance - ensure supporter data is handled in line with GDPR, maintaining accurate records, respecting communication preferences, and supporting data protection procedures.
• To undertake other reasonable activities as required by your line manager or the Head of Fundraising & Communications.
