Job description

Can you help build community power to take on the corporations and their friends in government putting lives at risk around the world? Just Treatment is a growing patient-led campaign fighting to put our health and the NHS before the interests of corporations. We've a track record of forcing government and big pharma to act in the face of patient pressure. Now we want to recruit an organiser to help bring an end to global vaccine apartheid by growing a campaign led by people in the UK whose loved ones around the world are being denied access to lifesaving COVID vaccines and treatments.

The COVID pandemic has exposed and exacerbated multiple existing injustices perpetuated by the dominant pharmaceutical, health, and economic models. The starkest example of that is the immoral vaccine apartheid which sees western countries, including the UK, with a surplus of vaccines, as many developing world countries struggle to get more than a few percent of their population jabbed. This injustice is driven by a monopoly-centred, racist, and neo-colonial pharmaceutical model that exploits the public sector and puts countless lives at risk in order to sustain huge pandemic profits.

You will work closely with colleagues, treatment activists, partner organisations, and community institutions including faith-based groups to find and recruit new Just Treatment leaders, building a powerful movement for global vaccine justice, centred on the leadership of people in the UK with family and loved ones in communities around the world awaiting vaccination. You will construct trusting relationships with people directly affected by COVID vaccine inequality and wider health injustices in the UK: training, supporting and empowering them to lead effective campaigns for change. The Vaccine & Health Justice Organiser will also contribute to the development of campaigns on other issues impacting on NHS patients, such as mental health and privatisation.

Even if you have not worked as an organiser, you will hold many of the skills you need to be a great organiser, including a passion for connecting with new people, building honest and trusting relationships, supporting others to take leadership, and identifying opportunities for impactful collaboration. You'll be joining a small, friendly team with a network of committed volunteers, and you'll have the power to generate and trial ideas in a supportive, collaborative culture. If you'd like to chat about the role please do get in touch using the contact details in the job description.
