Hospital Visitor Volunteer 

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake.

As a hospital volunteer, you might: 

• hold drop-in sessions

• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities

• share information

• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) Support Volunteer

People in care homes should have a voice to communicate their needs wishes and wants. Some people need support with this, but don’t have friends and family available to assist them.  This means they’re entitled to have support from an RPR and volunteer, who are there to make sure they get the care they deserve.  Your role as an RPR Support Volunteer is to collaborate with the VoiceAbility RPR to make sure a person’s views are listened to when decisions are made about their care.

As an RPR Support Volunteer you might:

• Visit people in their care home, to make sure they’re getting the right care and support
• Talk with them about their feelings, thoughts and wishes
• Raise concerns
• Keep detailed notes and records
• Make a real difference to someone’s life

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

Introduction to African Adventures Foundation

African Adventures Foundation is a registered charity set up in 2013 to provide support to 34 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.

These schools provide education, health and food security, and social support to young people whose access to these basic services would otherwise be very limited. African Adventures Foundation helps by funding food security programmes, the construction of important school facilities, and hygiene projects that will benefit children’s health and education.

Our mission is to provide more children with a quality education and better opportunities in life.

 All trustees are responsible for governing a charitable company and directing its management and operation. They must also ensure that the trust complies with all legal and statutory requirements.

About the role

The Secretary supports the effective governance and administration of the African Adventures Foundation. The role ensures that the Board of Trustees operates efficiently, meetings are properly organised and recorded, and the charity complies with regulatory and administrative requirements. The Secretary works closely with the Global Chair, Treasurer, and other Trustees to ensure the charity follows best practice in governance and maintains accurate records.

As an ambassador, they also support external stakeholder and donor activities ensuring compliance to the standards required. 

Key Responsibilities 

Governance and Administration

• Support the Global Chair in ensuring AAF is effectively governed and operates in line with its governing document.
• Ensure trustee meetings are properly administered, including preparing agendas, coordinating papers, and taking accurate minutes.
• Ensure that trustee decisions and discussions are clearly recorded and stored appropriately.
• Maintain up-to-date records of trustees, governance documents, and key organisational information, including steward of the governance schedule for all territories.

Meeting Management

• Ensure that trustee meetings are properly administered and recorded.
• Circulate agendas, minutes, and supporting papers to trustees in a timely manner.
• Ensure other meetings, such as the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and key organisational events are properly administered.
• Ensure that minutes from meetings are approved and maintained as part of the charity’s official records.

Compliance and Record Keeping

• Ensure that records required by regulators are properly maintained, including those required by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
• Maintain accurate governance documentation, including trustee appointments, resignations, and declarations of interest.
• Ensure that Charity Commission and other relevant organisation records are maintained and kept up to date.

Regulatory Reporting

• Ensure required information is filed with regulators in accordance with statutory deadlines.
• Submit annual returns and other required filings to regulatory bodies in the correct format and within required timescales.
• Support the Board in ensuring compliance with relevant guidance from bodies such as the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Fundraising Regulator.

Monitoring Actions and Board Support

• Maintain an action log for trustee meetings.
• Monitor committee member action points and follow up where necessary.
• Support trustees by ensuring they have access to relevant governance information and documents.
• Assist the Board in maintaining good governance practices and transparency.

What we are looking for

• Strong, organisational and administrative skills.
• Ability to take clear and accurate meeting minutes.

• Understanding of governance responsibilities within the UK charity sector.

The Biochemical Society is seeking to recruit three Independent Trustees for the Council of Trustees to serve an initial five-year term of office, with the potential to extend to a maximum eight-year term. Our Trustees shape the direction of the Society and the delivery of our work; promoting the importance of the molecular biosciences as a discipline, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise and supporting molecular bio-scientists across all career stages.

As an Independent Trustee you will work closely with the wider Trustee Council to set the Society’s strategy, maintain oversight of the organisations’ financial position and manage organisational risk. Contributing an independent voice to discussions, you will collaborate effectively with others for the benefit of the Society. Trustees gain valuable experience in board/committee work, board room dynamics and the overall governance of a charity and company, whilst helping to make a real difference for the molecular bioscience community.

Trustees work closely with senior staff members, and other volunteers across the Society’s governance framework. The anticipated time commitment is approximately 12 days per year, for which reasonable expenses will be reimbursed should travel be required.

We are looking for individuals who are excited about contributing to the Society’s endeavours over the coming five-year period. Successful candidates will have:

As a Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans, you’ll be helping to research and engage with new creators utilising a range of skills from social media to community management to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide.

What is the role?

The Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans will work closely with the Events Fundraising Manager Gaming and Streaming to help increase the reach of the team in the online creator space so Samaritans can raise more funds to help those with suicidal thoughts get help when they need it the most.

You will be a vital part of the team, using your skills and network to find new creators to engage with, carrying out research and safeguarding checks and becoming a key point of contact for those wanting to learn more about this exciting area of fundraising. You’ll also help to set the tone for our Discord community by posting regularly, moderating and being part of conversations to inspire our supporters to get more involved with fundraising for Samaritans.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

• Use your passion and enthusiasm for all things content creation to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide
• Use your engagement and communication skills to support Samaritans in the expansion and development of our content creator fundraising events
• Learn new skills and meet new people both virtually and in person
• Gain experience of community management and work in the charity sector as part of a busy events team at a large UK charity
• Learn more about content creator led fundraising, event planning and project management
• Attend a variety of industry events throughout the year
• You’ll be helping to support Samaritans and their work to help those who are struggling to cope for any reason

Time commitment

The role is incredibly flexible and any support you can provide would be appreciated - equivalent of one day per fortnight would be ideal. This time can be spread across multiple days however suits you best.

Background for Citizens Advice Salford’s Chair of Trustees:

Citizens Advice Salford is looking for a new chair for our board of trustees. The service is an independent charity, employing 35 people and benefiting from the support of about 70 highly trained volunteers. We are a full member of the National Association of Citizens Advice, our membership organisation, which supports our work.

Our chair plays a critical role in leading both the board and the organisation, as well as in representing the Salford service within the broader Citizens Advice movement. They will also provide strategic leadership and support the service’s chief executive.

The service provides advice to about 18,000 people each year, and is regulated by various bodies. Our offer is primarily through face to face contact, telephone advice, web access and we are looking at what new digital approaches such as AI can do for us.

We hold the specialist advice giving quality mark. Citizens Advice Salford has a strong reputation as a campaigner for change, for fighting against poverty, lobbying and campaigning on behalf of our clients, together with working across Greater Manchester with our colleague local citizens advice services.

Financially we have a range of contracts with public bodies such as the Council, together with a range of other grants and funding for specific projects.

The current chair is reaching the end of her six year term, but will still be a member of the board. It is a strong board consisting of ten people, with a diverse range of skills and experience.

This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, organizing transactions, tracking income and expenses, and helping ensure our bookkeeping systems are up to date. The Bookkeeper will work closely with our CPA board member to support financial oversight. 

Responsibilties 

• Maintain accurate nonprofit financial records and enter donations, grants, program income, and expenses into QuickBooks.
• Track and organize restricted and unrestricted funds to support proper nonprofit financial management and reporting.
• Reconcile bank statements, maintain receipts and supporting documentation, and ensure records are audit-ready.
• Work closely with the organization’s CPA board member to strengthen internal controls and support financial oversight.
• Use QuickBooks knowledge and nonprofit bookkeeping best practices to help ensure compliance, transparency, and sustainability.

The Branch Chair role is vital to the running of the branch as they act as a leader and a coordinator for the branch. Without these roles, we would not have as many branches as we do.

What you will be doing

• Planning, arranging, and chairing committee meetings and public meetings.
• Along with other committee members, representing the branch at external meetings e.g. with local services for autistic people.
• Delegating tasks to other committee members or volunteers
• Raising the profile of the NAS within your branch and local community.
• Ensuring your branch complies with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding
• Monitoring branch income and expenditure in partnership with the treasurer and authorising branch payments
• Supporting fundraising in your branch
• Co-ordinating and promoting local campaigns and bringing others on board to help you
• Keeping your Senior Branch Engagement Officer informed about branch activities and events
• Overseeing the moderation of the branch online support group / forum
• Liaising with newsletter editor on contents and production of bi-monthly newsletter
• Motivating the team involved in running your branch
• Trying to resolve any difficulties experienced by your branch

The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is seeking an exceptional individual to join its Board of Trustees as Honorary Secretary, a pivotal governance position at the heart of a respected UK professional body and learned society. As Honorary Secretary, you will contribute at a strategic level, helping to ensure strong governance, supporting effective Board leadership, and shaping the future direction of the charity with real impact across the UK healthcare system.  You will work closely with the President, Trustees and CEO, contributing to strategic decision-making and helping to ensure the Board operates effectively and transparently. 

IPEM operates as a professional body, a learned society, and a registered charity, working across hospitals, universities, and industry. IPEM is supported by a professional and collaborative staff team, working in partnership with its volunteer community. With over 4,700 members working across healthcare, academia and industry, IPEM plays a critical role in advancing physics and engineering in medicine to improve patient outcomes and transforming lives.

This is an unpaid role, with expenses paid for travel and sustenance for in person meetings. We anticipate a time commitment of no more than 12 days per year. It's essential that you are not a member of IPEM and eligible to become a Trustee. This is a 3 year term, renewable once.

Make a Smile is seeking a motivated and organised Chapter President to lead one of our local Chapters. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing committee operations, supporting volunteers, and ensuring the smooth running of all Chapter activities.

About Make a Smile

Make a Smile is a charity dedicated to bringing joy to children through character visits, events, and community engagement. Each Chapter is run by a volunteer committee, and the President plays a central role in guiding and supporting that team.

Role Overview

The Chapter President is responsible for the overall management, development, and compliance of their Chapter. You will lead the committee, coordinate activities, and act as the main link between your Chapter and the national Board of Trustees.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading teams, solving problems, and making a meaningful impact in their community.

Key Responsibilities

• Local Leadership
• Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the Chapter and support committee members in their roles.
• Provide direction, guidance, and oversight across volunteer recruitment, events, fundraisers, and costume management.
• Chair committee meetings and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
• Identify when committee members need support and step in with advice, delegation, or hands‑on help.
• Complete and maintain the Chapter Development Plan and work towards improving Chapter performance each year.
• Ensure all activities comply with the charity’s constitution, handbook, and legal requirements.

National Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact between your Chapter and the Board of Trustees.
• Submit a monthly report on Chapter progress, challenges, and key decisions.
• Attend the monthly Charity Leadership Meeting to share updates and contribute to national planning.
• Implement national guidance and changes communicated by Trustees.
• Manage your Chapter’s allocated budget and support fundraising targets.
• Ensure all required paperwork is kept up‑to‑date, including logs, finances, and post‑event forms.

The Wellbeing Officer (Trustee) provides information, guidance and advice to volunteers and service users around topics such as mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, if service users or volunteers have any concerns, the best point of contact is the wellbeing officer.

What do we specifically expect of this role?

● Delivery of a plan to proactively assist officers and volunteers in public-facing roles, with tools and techniques to prevent or reduce any initial harm/trauma from purposeful or accidental harmful interactions - social media, live events, outreach, panel events, etc.

● Providing support for service users by way of triaging and responding to requests that come through to the wellbeing inbox. ● Building and maintaining wellbeing resources for service users and following a data-informed approach as to areas of wellbeing improvement. This includes building relationships with external service providers that can assist in helping members of our community.

How much commitment is required?

We are flexible around your own schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:

● To be able to attend all Trustee meetings and to deliver a comprehensive report to the committee each meeting with updates and to completed actions as and when they appear;

● To aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary when close to Hidayah events as well as the events themselves (where possible due to geography);

● To help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives;

● To be part of a communications group to keep up to date with Hidayah developments;

● To contribute toward and to maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ so it is always up to date with clear records, templates and forms; 1

● To check emails and to respond when needed;

● Enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision and mission of Hidayah;

● To contribute toward the Annual Report once a year;

If taking on the role, you're expected to be in post until the next AGM. This role is subject to a 6 months probationary period.
