Job description

Every six minutes in the UK someone loses their sight. There are currently 2.5 million people living with sight loss and blindness and this number is escalating quickly. Fight for Sight is the UK’s leading eye research charity at the forefront of pioneering science. We currently invest £8 million in over 150 active research projects at leading universities and hospitals around the UK, funding some of the brightest minds in science.

It is an exciting time at Fight for Sight and we are at a crucial point in our fight against sight loss.  With the advent of Covid-19 it is more important than ever that we engage new donors and supporters for our cause and ensure a financially sustainable organisation to deliver our long-term mission.

We are looking for a new Director of Engagement to join our leadership team to lead on the development and implementation of the charity’s marketing and communications strategies, including driving engagement with donors and providing information for the public in order to support our strategic objectives.  You will be responsible for developing and implementing an insight led marketing and engagement strategy that will deliver income targets for the organisation, effective communications and marketing to our external stakeholders to support our brand and strategic messages and proactive media activities across all channels to raise the profile of Fight for Sight across all relevant media.

You will have extensive experience of developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies to achieve ambitious targets in a charity fundraising environment. As well as significant brand development and management experience , a background overseeing media and PR activities, you will be a strategic thinker and creative storyteller, you will be outgoing, confident, friendly and with strong interpersonal skills to lead a small, but dynamic and high performing team of marketing, communication and fundraising professionals.
