We are looking for a motivated and experienced co-ordinator to help us nurture and grow our talented team of staff and volunteers.

Job description – Cara Funding and Communications Manager

This is a critical time to join our dedicated team as we expand our work in response to the growing risk to academics and universities worldwide. Building on our 93 years of experience and partnerships with 135 UK university, this role provides an excellent opportunity for a dynamic fundraiser to grow our support from individual and organisations.

Line Manager: Chief Executive

Objective: The Funding and Communications Manger leads on the delivery of our fundraising strategy to diversify and grow Cara’s income streams.

Hours: Full-time. Eight hours each day Monday – Friday, with flexible working by arrangement around core hours of 10am – 4pm.

Location: Hybrid working - in London office in Elephant and Castle SE1 (2-3 set days per week) and working from home on the remaining days.

Role purpose - responsible for executing fundraising strategy to generate increased income for Cara’s work - identify and cultivate potential donors, manage fundraising events and campaigns, and ensure compliance with fundraising regulations. 

Detailed responsibilities:

· Fundraising Strategy and business plan:

Work closely with the Chief Executive to review and adapt our fundraising strategy and business plan and produce analytics to review performance by income type and to help set stretching and achievable targets and improvement plans for each income stream. Implement and develop fundraising plans, including initiation and management of campaigns. Take responsibility for developing new income streams and products including alumni and legacy giving.

· Relationship Building:

Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective donors, including individuals, major donors, and foundations. Work with the Cara team to ensure effective relationship management across all donors and lead on donor identification for all income streams. Identify opportunities for pro bono support in support of the Cara strategy.

· Event Management:

Organize and manage fundraising events, ensuring successful execution and high engagement with our target audiences. This includes a schedule of location-based university engagement events (up to twelve per year) to engage existing individual donors, build awareness of Cara’s work, and cultivate new individual donors. Collaborate with contacts at each university to plan, deliver and follow up on each event. Lead on other key Cara events including the annual science and civilisation lecture to ensure that these build the Cara brand.

· Data Management for donor stewardship:

Maintain accurate donor records (on salesforce) and build and maintain fundraising databases for individuals and organisational donors to manage engagement throughout the donor journey. Maintain a view of Cara’s pipeline income to support the work of the Cara management team and reports to support accountability and trustee engagement including return on investment for each income stream.

· Communication:

Prepare and distribute fundraising materials, including appeals, newsletters, social media content, and articles for the website. Develop a range of case-studies profiling the work of Cara (including programmes, university partners, and individual academics). Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive to build the Cara brand through co-ordination of Cara’s presence at events and through priority digital channels.

· Proposal writing

Lead on proposal writing for major donors and philanthropic funding. Collaborate with colleagues on larger grants taking responsibility to overall proposal quality and timely submission. Ensure that the team work to agreed standards on all written reports and proposals to donors.

· Compliance:

Adhering to fundraising regulations, such as those outlined by the Fundraising Regulator, and ensuring that all fundraising activities are ethical and legal. Develop policies and practices to manage risk including appropriate due diligence and gift acceptance policies.

· Trends

Stay up to date on signals and trends in fundraising relevant to Cara’s work and use these to inform our business planning and risk/opportunity management.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

· Proven success implementing effective strategies to raise income from a range of donors with a focus on major donors.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: The ability to effectively communicate with donors including senior staff at universities.

· Strong writing and presentation skills: Developing winning proposals and presentations. Experience ranging from individual regular donors to six figure grants.

· Project management and organizational skills: Managing fundraising projects and campaigns effectively.

· Research and analytical skills: Identifying funding opportunities, analysing fundraising performance, and making data-driven decisions.

· Team working skills: ability to collaborate effectively with team without firm levers of management control. Ability to motivate and support non-fundraisers to work to best practice.

· Knowledge of fundraising regulations and best practices: Understanding the ethical and legal aspects of fundraising.

· Experience with fundraising software and databases: to manage donor information and track fundraising activities. Experience and/or willingness to learn to use salesforce.

We are looking for a proactive policy and corporate affairs professional to join the Police Now team and play a key role in shaping understanding of our programmes, build support amongst stakeholders, and lead the conversation on police reform and culture change. 

Police Now’s mission is to transform communities, reduce crime and increase public confidence in policing.  You will be instrumental in identifying and offering great opportunities to showcase the best of Police Now's work with Ministers, officials, MPs, Peers, committees, All-Party Parliamentary Groups, and other policy stakeholders and influencers.  You will use your skills in advocacy and effective communication to increase awareness of and support for what we deliver, and be an effective partner to the Government demonstrating delivery of their 13,000 neighbourhood policing pledge and the difference good local policing makes to communities.

What you’ll do – the key responsibilities

•Establish yourself within Police Now as a source of expert political advice and guidance in handling sensitive issues and relationships, working to protect and enhance our reputation. 

•Be curious about police reform, be actively contributing on external thinking about this and ensure PN colleagues are kept abreast of key developments.

•Maintain the day to day relationship with the Home Office including organising meetings, submissions, paperwork and evaluations.

•Provide expert policy advice to officials at the Home Office, other Government Departments, and Parliamentarians on the work of Police Now through contributions to White Papers and Committee Investigations.

The Philanthropy Manager will join our recently established Philanthropy and Partnerships (P&P) team to help us develop and nurture a range of corporate and philanthropic relationships. Together, we will significantly increase our income in support of the world leading research, treatment, and care that takes place across our hospitals in areas such as: childhood cancer, rare diseases, neonatal and maternal health, children and young people’s mental health, and critical care.

We’re looking for an experienced Philanthropy Manager to play a pivotal role in securing significant philanthropic income from high-net-worth individuals and charitable trusts and foundations to support the vital work of our hospitals. Leading a team of three, this role is responsible for cultivating and managing existing high-value philanthropic relationships, expanding our high-value networks and further embedding a culture of philanthropy across our hospitals and charity.

The ideal candidate will have strong understanding and experience in working with high-net-worth individuals to secure 5-6 figure gifts. Communication skills (both verbally and in writing) ideally gained within a fundraising or sales/business development environment. They will be a self-starter with an appetite to make unsolicited approaches to individuals, along with the ability to develop and grow lasting relationships with high-net-worth individuals, charitable trust and foundations.  They will have strong time management skills, a motivation to work towards and achieve targets, and an appreciation of working for the NHS.

About the role

Very much a customer-facing role, we’ll rely on you to provide IT support in a professional manner and take responsibility for resolving calls within agreed SLAs. Day-to-day you’ll receive and accurately log service desk calls, provide initial troubleshooting and aim to achieve a first call resolution where possible. As well as managing and resolving multiple 1st and 2nd line support incidents you’ll also be expected to provide users with regular updates. Highly analytical and adept at providing good customer service, you’ll need a good level of technical understanding of PC desktop infrastructure, software applications, peripheral devices and account management. We’ll also be looking for great problem solving and logical troubleshooting skills. Experience of explaining technical issues to a non-technical audience is important too, as is an understanding and awareness of Incident Management techniques. And, because you’ll be dealing with a variety of people on a daily basis, you should be comfortable liaising at all levels and working as part of a team.

Role - A strategic role, responsible for supporting, developing and maintaining effective partnerships to support the local VCSE sector and Redcar & Cleveland more generally. Background (Summary)

Enhance is the newly funded VCSE infrastructure support service in Redcar and Cleveland made possible through the collaboration of a number of funders to fill a gap in local provision. 

Lloyds Bank Foundation, Rank Foundation, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Tees Foundation and the Woodsmith Foundation have provided three years of funding and commissioned MVDA to develop and deliver a VCSE infrastructure service (Enhance) in Redcar and Cleveland.

Enhance will provide practical support to VCSE organisations based in the Redcar and Cleveland area who deliver services to local people and communities. 

The service model for Enhance is based on three key areas:

Improvement – Providing practical support through an information and advice service.  This will include for example advice on governance, funding, policy and practice

Growth - The development and delivery of a comprehensive training programme for all VCSEs in Redcar and Cleveland

Influence - Work to support the building and development of relationships; collaborative work across the VCSE sector and cross-sector partnerships

The service will be based in Redcar and Cleveland and will provide an outreach service in the more rural areas of the borough to ensure the services are accessible to all local VCSEs.

About the Role

In this new role, you will contribute to enhancing the finance function within a growing and dynamic international charitable foundation. The role will enable you to work and continue your professional development across many aspects of the finance function. 

You will play an important part in our finance team’s further growth and professionalisation as Mission 44 extends its reach as a charity working in multiple countries. You will have the opportunity to gain further hands-on experience in driving our day-to-day finance processes, while also leading key projects to enhance our systems and put in place effective financial management of our new US entity. 

This role forms part of our Operations Team, currently comprising our Chief Operating Officer, our Head of Finance and Operations (HoFO), our Chief of Staff, our People and Culture Manager and our Operations Officer. A key part of your role will be acting as finance business partner to our other teams - impact, fundraising and communications - and demonstrating a customer service mindset in helping them achieve their objectives.

We’re looking for a finance professional, newly-qualified or working towards a chartered accountant qualification, wanting to develop their skills and career in a comprehensive finance role and contribute to our mission of helping young people thrive.

Roles and Responsibilities

Accounting (40%)

• Oversee day-to-day transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, for both the UK charity and the newly created US charity
• Ensure that accurate and comprehensive records of accounting evidence for all transactions are maintained
• Monitor cashflow
• Support the HoFO in the month-end process
• Oversee and control monthly payroll with external payroll provider
• Oversee and control VAT returns with external accountants
• Check monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Develop the purchase order system

Financial Planning & Analysis (35%)

• Support the HoFO in the preparation of the monthly management accounts
• Control all accounts payable in dialogue with budget holders
• Finance business partnering with budget holders and the Senior Leadership Team
• Control and account for the use of restricted funds, in alignment with donor requirements and with the Impact team
• Collaborate with the fundraising team to support forecasting and income tracking

Statutory accounts and audit (10%)

• Support the HoFO in the year-end processes
• Support the HoFO in the preparation of statutory accounts, supervising outsourced accountants
• Support audit requests
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards, including charity-specific requirements

Operations (15%)

• Responsible for the financial management of grant payments, in coordination with Grant Managers and Grant Budget Holders
• Drive good practice in procurement and manage the relationship with suppliers
• Support the wider Ops team in ad hoc projects and activities

Skills and experience

Essential

• Newly qualified or part qualified, working towards a chartered accountant qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Able to be hands-on in a small finance team
• Able to drive relationships with outsourced accountants
• Fluent in using spreadsheets for financial information
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly explain complex financial data and concepts to non-finance staff and stakeholders to support decision-making
• Strong critical thinker with keen attention to detail
• Experience of project management and knowledge of project management principles
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within the non-profit sector

Assistant x 2

1 x to the CEO | 1 x Communications & Helpline

Location: Hybrid – working from home, with at least 1 day a month working from our office in Bracknell, Berkshire.

We’re looking for two enthusiastic, ambitious and organised individuals to join our team as Assistants, each supporting a different area of the charity. One role will provide high-level support to our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), while the other will focus on helping our Communications and Helpline team deliver their vital services. These are excellent opportunities to work at the heart of a charity that is committed to creating a dyslexia-inclusive society.

About the roles

Executive Assistant

This role will support the smooth day-to-day functioning of the CEO’s office, helping manage key processes, communications, and external relations. You’ll be central to diary coordination, board support, stakeholder liaison, and financial administration, contributing to strong governance and strategic delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

· Managing the CEO’s diary, inbox, travel and meeting logistics

· Preparing board papers, agendas, minutes, and reports

· Liaising with stakeholders and trustees

· Supporting advocacy and public affairs activity (e.g. parliamentary events)

· Helping with financial admin tasks such as raising invoices and supplier forms

· Providing wider administrative support to the senior leadership team as needed

This role would suit someone confident in managing sensitive information, working to tight deadlines, and liaising with senior contacts across the charity and beyond.

Communications & Helpline Assistant

This varied and rewarding role provides hands-on support to our helpline and external communications work. You’ll be helping our volunteers offer accurate and empathetic support to the public while also assisting with digital content, social media and outreach campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

· Supporting helpline volunteer coordination, training and performance

· Helping develop and maintain helpline resources and records

· Creating and publishing content for our social media and website

· Supporting email marketing, digital analytics, and campaign promotion

· Assisting with press releases, stakeholder communications and events

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people, has strong communication skills, and an interest in digital content and community engagement.

We are looking for a self-motivated and results driven Head of Finance and Administration to join World Horse Welfare in a newly created role reporting to the Director of Finance, IT & Administration, line managing three members of the Finance and Administration team.

In this vital role, you will ensure strong financial controls across all areas of the charity, manage income and expenditure, and lead on statutory accounts preparation, payroll, VAT, pensions, and tax compliance. As a key business partner, you will work closely with budget holders of all levels, providing data and analysis on the performance of charity operations, including the four Visitor Centres, to ensure excellent financial foresight and planning, as well as enabling the senior leadership team to make timely strategic decisions. You’ll also oversee governance responsibilities such as annual statutory filings, insurance, fleet management and reporting on the annual carbon footprint.

We are looking for a qualified accountant who has experience of charity finance at a similar level, an in depth understanding of charity VAT and experience running in-house payroll processes. You will have the ability to explain financial information and produce financial reports for a wide variety of audiences. High level of IT skills particularly around data manipulation and Microsoft Excel is essential. As a line manager to three members of staff, you’ll have previous experience in managing a team in a supportive and effective manner. Experience of a retail environment, familiarity with fundraising methods and regulations, and experience of finance system implementation is highly desirable.

The role is based in Norfolk and is currently a hybrid split of 2 days in our head office in Snetterton and 3 days at home. You may be required to attend events around the UK so the ability to travel occasionally is necessary.
