We are looking for a Public Affairs and Campaigns Officer to join our team and help influence decision makers and mobilise our campaigners to achieve our vision of fewer lives lost to suicide. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering inspiring public affairs and advocacy campaign activity that help achieve our policy and influencing aims, resulting in lasting system change.​

About the Role

As Public Affairs and Campaigns Officer, you will lead on the development and delivery of impactful advocacy campaigns and public affairs activity, managing supporter journeys and mobilisation, as well as political engagement. It involves building strong relationships with parliamentarians, Samaritans branches and people with lived experience, while producing high‑quality campaign actions, briefings, events, and intelligence to influence change.

£30,000-£33,000 per annum plus benefits

Full Time (35hrs per week)

Hybrid working with link to Ewell office

In-person working: Meeting in person and working collaboratively are things we value. We work in person around 2 days per month. This role will also involve regular travel to Westminster.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and deliver effective advocacy campaign actions.
• Manage campaign data, mailing lists and inboxes.
• Support strategy development for campaigns and lead community mobilisation.
• Promote our campaigning work internally and externally.
• Build and maintain public affairs relationships, particularly with parliamentarians.
• Monitor parliamentary developments and identify opportunities for influencing.
• Coordinate political engagement events.
• Provide secretariat support to relevant APPGs.

• Strong experience designing impactful advocacy campaigns.
• Solid understanding of public affairs and the Westminster environment.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship‑building skills.
• Highly organised, proactive and adaptable, with strong project and time‑management skills.
• (Desirable) Knowledge of suicide prevention and mental health policy, local and regional political structures, and experience within complex service‑delivery charities.​

The role: 

We are looking for an experienced community organiser to join the Northern Ireland team at a very exciting time. The role will be to build power by supporting communities to campaign for environmental and climate justice. 

You will also help grow a grassroots movement for change with a particular emphasis on supporting groups having to deal with unsustainable developments imposed on their community.

Although based in Northern Ireland you will also be expected to work with other related teams across these islands and share local to global stories of solidarity.

Key Skills and Attributes: 

You must be able to listen to, engage with and support communities in their local campaigns as well as joining up issues to effect Northern Ireland-wide change. You will have a deep understanding of campaigning at grassroots level, managing complex relationships and working with diverse communities of people. Ideally you will have a background in the environment/human rights.

In a climate and ecological emergency business as usual is no longer an option so you must be able to demonstrate an understanding of transformational change as well as the need for local and grassroots action. 

We are looking for a confident communicator with a knowledge of digital activism and other forms of communication. You will able to design and deliver support for grassroots networks. You will be flexible enough to juggle the demands of a multi-campaign organisation as well as responding rapidly and effectively to changing external circumstances.

Working directly with groups and activists which will sometimes require evening and weekend work. 

Job share arrangements would be considered. 

The team: 

The Northern Ireland team campaigns on a range of environmental threats – extractive industries, climate breakdown,nature depletion, water exploitation and industrial agriculture.We also support communities on the issues that are important to them. As well as community activity we use our collective energy to make transformational change and strategic interventions at local and central government level. The team can help on campaign strategy, planning and legal matters, the sharing of stories and, crucially, helping people to help each other to form a growing movement demanding change.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, plan, and execute income generation campaigns, including individual giving (IG) initiatives and other fundraising activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, stakeholders, and partner organisations to cultivate ongoing support.
• Monitor campaign progress and analyse data to optimise performance and maximise donor engagement.
• Ensure compliance with best practices, donor confidentiality, and organisational policies.
• Contribute to the creation of compelling fundraising materials and communications.
• Provide regular updates and reports on campaign outcomes, income targets, and donor engagement metrics.

Person Specification

• Proven experience in fundraising or campaign management within a charity or non-profit environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft engaging storytelling and compelling appeals.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficiency in data analysis and using CRM or fundraising software to track progress.
• A proactive approach with strong attention to detail and an understanding of ethical fundraising standards.

The Role

This role is either London based on a permanent contract (2 days in the office) or Kenya/Brazil based on a consultancy contract.

As Project Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the effective delivery of our campaigning work. You will provide project management support across teams, strengthen systems and processes, and help us deliver impact. You will keep projects on track, support collaboration, and ensure accountability to our donors through regular reporting.

Detention Action is a small organisation with a big impact. Since 1993, we have worked to improve the welfare of people in detention centres and tirelessly campaign alongside our beneficiaries to reduce the use of immigration detention. We work on the frontline with people in immigration detention, as well as challenging injustices in asylum, detention and deportation systems in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to campaign for a just and humane immigration system. The post holder will work across our communications and campaigns activities, helping to develop and achieve our campaigning goals, engaging with stakeholders and providing policy and parliamentary support. They will take a lead role in managing our social media channels and contribute to our press office function.

They will also work closely with our Casework and Fundraising teams.

The postholder will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge to allow them to lead campaigns and/or supporter and stakeholder engagement.

We are looking for someone who is able to develop compelling campaigns messages for a range of audiences and build strong relationships with our stakeholders. Candidates must have well-developed research and analysis skills, excellent organisational skills and be able to manage our social media accounts.
