Initially, successful candidates will be employed by Citizen Church for a fixed term of six months while the charity is set up, following which they will transition into permanent roles, employed by the new Spear South Wales charity but still with a close connection to Citizen Church. This new structure will give the Spear programme long term stability and exciting opportunities for growth, and enable the new coaches to contribute to and shape the future strategy for the Spear South Wales programme at this key time.

Key Responsibilities

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up around 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their attitudes to their own ability and the workplace, and to raise their awareness and maximise potential in stepping into the world of work
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics

Relationship management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre

Church Community

• Spear South Wales is run in partnership with Citizen Church, meaning you will work alongside a vibrant church staff team and have the support of the church in the running of the programme
• You will be required to establish a personal presence within the community, and build a strong and committed network of supporters in the partner church. While it's desirable that this is your regular place of worship, we would consider candidates already in other local churches who are unable to move

 As Head of Financial Planning you will play a big role in shaping our financial strategy and lead on performance management with a particular focus on P3 Housing, our regulated housing arm.

Reporting to the Group CFO, you’ll be the driving force behind our financial planning, monthly management accounts, KPI reporting, and compliance. You will bring insight and clarity to our decision-making, helping us steer the organisation with confidence through changing times.

The Role:

You will be joining at an important time for our team, covering a crucial role in ensuring accurate income processing, reporting, and financial management across the organisation. As part of the Finance team, you will work closely with colleagues across departments, particularly alongside our fundraising team, to ensure income is correctly coded and reported efficiently. 

With responsibility for month-end and year-end processes, as well as maintaining accurate and timely financial data, you will play a vital role in supporting decision-making across the organisation. Your work will ensure colleagues have the financial insights they need, enabling strategic planning and effective resource management. 

Strong communication skills are essential for this role, as you will liaise with teams across the organisation to provide clear financial updates, answer queries, and ensure income is accurately coded and reported in line with financial procedure. Your clear communication of financial information will support informed decision-making and ensure compliance with procedures. 

To succeed in this role, you will have strong financial processing experience, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You should be comfortable working with financial systems and software, with the ability to efficiently manage data, generate reports, and ensure accurate income tracking.

Additionally, the team comes into the office during busier periods, such as financial year-end and audit, to collaborate with auditors (June/July). You can work remotely for the rest of the time. Equally, you may prefer to work from the office full-time. We encourage all colleagues to visit member hospices to help inform our work and you may be able to work from there.

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this role is to build on our programme of strategic engagement with our key audiences, in order to build our presence, influence and networks in a wide range of UK sectors and topical issues. This includes leading the design and delivery of some of our focused programmes in which we award Fellowships and supporting the Fellows awarded into these programmes to help them increase their UK impact once they’ve done their overseas learning. This role is responsible for delivering all engagement activity across our Arts and culture, Community and citizenship, Environment and resources and Governance and public provision universal themes.  

Key responsibilities:

Programme Development and Delivery

• With oversight from the Engagement Director, and working with members of the Advisory Council to develop the focus and goals of a three-year Fellowship programme within our Governance and Public Provision universal theme through a process of desk-based research and consultation workshops
• Working with the Head of Comms to design and plan the launch of the new programme to applicants
• Working with the Head of Fellowship to design a support package for applicants into the programme
• With oversight from the Engagement Director, creating and facilitating a Working Group of Fellows, partners and Council members to support the cohort of Fellows awarded within this programme. And working with the other Research and Engagement Manager to develop and enhance our approach to stewarding these Working Groups including ones already in place for our other programmes.

• Supporting the Engagement Director in the recruitment and stewardship of Knowledge Partners for this programme and other programmes under your four thematic sectors

• Working with members of our Advisory Council to review our two environment related programmes with a view to revising them or developing them further.
• Reviewing the progress of each programme under your remit with the relevant Advisory Council members and the Working Group at the end of the applications cycle and before the programme reopens for applications

 Sector Relations & Networking

• Researching target audiences, stakeholders, partners and allies, in the four thematic sectors you oversee. Building relationships and maintaining our database of these.

Working for The Churchill Fellowship
