About the role
The post-holder will provide independent advocacy in various settings, including in the community, people’s homes, and hospital settings including mental health wards. You’ll raise awareness of advocacy, including for people from minority ethnic communities. You’ll work as part of a team of independent advocates, reporting to the Advocacy Service Manager.
You will work as part of the Ealing advocacy team. You may also need to carry out your role in other London boroughs.
Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will be required to visit CQC registered care homes and would be subject to government requirements.
Key responsibilities
î Provide advocacy for eligible people under Mental Health Act 2007, the Health and Social Care Act 2012, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and under the Care Act 2014.
î Provide a one-to-one advocacy service for people and undertake case work, evidencing and uploading case notes and data in a timely manner.
î Provide instructed and non-instructed advocacy, where appropriate.
î Provide information, support or signpost clients in order to inform or empower individuals on any issues about their treatment under the relevant legislation.
î Act as duty advocate for our Single Point of Access referral line on a rota basis.

CARIS Families is a small frontline charity that offers holistic support to families experiencing homelessness in hostels in the London Boroughs of Camden and Hackney. Amongst our other services, we run play and learning activities for children aged 0-16 from within 4 hostels in these boroughs, as well as a school holiday day trip programme. Our services for children aim to reduce the stress on children and parents of living in overcrowded, insecure accommodation, and to put back essential childhood experiences that homeless accommodation deprives children of.
The services we currently offer our families in hostels are:
- Kids Club: an after-school play club in term time for 0-16s, run from our dedicated play club in the basement of one family hostel in Camden.
- Enrichment Trips and Summer Programme: a series of day trips for groups of families from our 4 hostels in the school holidays. We take part in exciting activities and visit interesting destinations round London and the South-East, to ease the pressures of being stuck in the hostel during the long school breaks.
- Essentials Bank: Our Essentials bank runs weekly in term-time from two of our hostels, offering families free hygiene products such as toiletries, nappies, washing powder etc. to ease the pressure on family finances at a difficult time.
- Family Support Work and Housing Casework: we offer holistic casework to support families to ease the stress of their situation, from working on finances to supporting employment searches, to assisting with legal cases and supporting them to navigate their housing case and move out of homelessness as soon as possible.
We are currently looking for an experienced Play and Community Worker to join our dedicated frontline Family Services team, delivering this vital support to around 100 children and their families each year.

The Homeownership Assistant will provide essential administrative and operational support to the Homeownership team, helping to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to leaseholders, shared owners, and freeholders.
The postholder will be responsible for managing key processes and correspondence related to leasehold, shared ownership and freehold management, as well as income collection, and customer engagement. About you
You will need to have proven experience in housing management administration, particularly in working with leaseholders and shared ownership leases. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong commitment to delivering high standards, and the ability to stay well organised, meet tight deadlines, and effectively juggle multiple tasks at once.
You will also need:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

The EA will deliver one-to-one and group-based employability support, collaborate with employers and volunteers to source opportunities for clients, and maintain strong relationships with referral and support partners to ensure a holistic approach to employment support.

As an Outreach Advocate within The Angelou Centre you will be part of our front-line team providing emotional and trauma informed support to women and children experiencing gender based domestic abuse. The primary responsibility of all advocates within The Angelou is to provide women and children with continuous one-to-one support, practical advice and advocacy, such as writing referrals for women to access the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Much of this work takes the form of casework, and report writing, as well as ensuring that the women receive comprehensive support that addresses their health, social care, housing, immigration and benefit-related needs.
All advocates are required to spent at least 30% of your time on outreach work to engage with communities outside of The Angelou Centre. However, as our new Outreach Advocate you will spend 3 days with Wearside Women in Need (WWIN) based in Sunderland and 2 days working within our office in Newcastle. This is a new partnership work to ensure that we continue to provide specialist Black and racialised support across the North East. You will work in Sunderland and Newcastle to provide tailored support, advice and advocacy, raising awareness of domestic abuse through outreach activities ensuring our services are accessible to women of the Black and racialised community.
Our ideal candidate is someone who;
- Is confident and pro-active in advocating on behalf of our survivors and able to represent their needs when working with partner agencies
- Is compassionate, non-judgmental and committed to supporting survivors of domestic abuse
- Has excellent written skills with some experience of casework within legal, healthcare or an educational setting.
- Has experience of conducting risk and needs assessments within legal, healthcare or an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
Advice and Advocacy Support
- Provide tailored, one-to-one continuous support, advice, and advocacy to black and minoritised victims and survivors of domestic abuse and exploitation
- Provide weekly drop-in opportunities for black and racially minoritized women in the local area
- Support improved mental wellbeing and resilience, measured using Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well Being Scale and the Chaos Index for those with complex needs.
- To be aware of external service processes to safeguard individuals who are exposed to sexual exploitation.
Outreach Support
- To attend external team meetings and presentations in relevant forums and partnerships

Casework

Outreach Advocacy Specific
- To develop specialist knowledge in the area of domestic abuse, immigration abuse and gender-based violence, and how this impacts women from Black and racialized minorities differently, through attendance at relevant training, learning events and conferences
- Raise awareness on domestic abuse education through outreach activities, ensuring services are accessible to those with protected characteristics and/or facing multiple disadvantages.
- Help improve local services understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse for women and girls from the Black and racialised communities and the long-term impact.
In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties however, will fall within the scope of the job at the appropriate grade. As an ISVA within The Angelou Centre you will be part of our front-line team providing emotional and trauma informed support to women and children experiencing gender based domestic abuse. The primary responsibility of all advocates within The Angelou is to provide women and children with continuous one-to-one support, practical advice and advocacy, such as writing referrals for women to access the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Much of this work takes the form of casework, and report writing, as well as ensuring that the women receive comprehensive support that addresses their health, social care, housing, immigration and benefit-related needs. All advocates are required to spent at least 30% of your time will be spent on outreach work to engage with communities that may not have heard of The Angelou Centre.
Specific to the ISVA role, is to provide tailored support, advice and advocacy to women who are or have been victims of sexual abuse and exploitation. Alongside this you will support The Angelou Centre in raising awareness of sexual education through outreach activities, ensuring services are accessible to women of the Black and racialised community.

Key Responsibilities
Advice and Advocacy Support
- Provide tailored, one-to-one continuous support, advice, and advocacy to black and minoritised victims and survivors of sexual violence and exploitation
- Provide weekly drop-in opportunities for black and racially minoritized women in the local area
- Support improved mental wellbeing and resilience, measured using Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well Being Scale and the Chaos Index for those with complex needs.

Outreach Support

ISVA Specific
- To set up and maintain services to women in custody who are experiencing and/or are at risk of Sexual exploitation.
- To develop specialist knowledge in the area of sex work and sexual exploitation, and how this impacts women from Black and racialized minorities differently, through attendance at relevant training, learning events and conferences
- Raise awareness on sexual education through outreach activities, ensuring services are accessible to those with protected characteristics and/or facing multiple disadvantages.
- Help improve local services understanding of the dynamics of sexual exploitation and the long-term impact.
- Support police when undertaking visits to brothels to assist with safeguarding women who are experiencing Sexual exploitation.

Job Purpose:
