Job Title: Support Worker
Highway House is a charity that has been providing all year round shelter and support services to the homeless for the past 15 years. Our work with the homeless has evolved an adapted from 2009 to date to offer the support most needed at any given time. Highway House received the Faith Recognition Award for providing specialist services by Her Majesty’s Lieutenant at the Royal College of Medicine in November 2017. We have received the best shelter of the year award 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 by the London Prestige Awards.
Summary of role
This post is responsible for ensuring that guests who attend Highway House are in the first instance made welcome. The primary role will be to engage those guests that attend the day centre and guests that are resident in the shelter’s accommodation in developing a pathway of support for them and help them move to the maximum independence they are capable of. Providing baseline and continuing monitoring of their progress will be required, as will working closely with the project manager.
· Be responsible for receiving guests 2 days a week (7 hours each day) at the day centre
· Initial recording of guests details in database system
· Work with guests to identify their needs
· Research and engage appropriate support for guests
· Develop links with health and welfare agencies to benefit guests
· Support the physical and mental wellbeing of guests
· Visit guests placed in the shelter’s accommodation 1 day a week (4 hours) to do support work with guests.
· Supervise and inspect state of property and run room checks on weekly visit to the shelter’s accommodation.
- Ensure effective collection of monitoring information, consultation and feedback
- Report regularly to the project manager as and when required board of trustees upon the progress of the project against stated outcomes
- Agree with Manager any actions regarding outcomes
- Ensure all safeguarding issues are dealt with effectively as detailed within our policy
· Work with, support, and build the understanding of volunteers
· Training volunteers in support work
· Agree and maintain work plans with Project Manager
· Work with project Manager to engage partners and develop new opportunities
· Contribute to review of activities so they are based upon need
· Identify and contribute to all legal requirements being met
· Ensure the information is processed in database system to provide monitoring and evaluation reports

SWAP is a charity providing support to asylum seekers and refugees living in the Wigan Borough. We deliver a number of key services that include English classes, a Women’s Group and a case work service. This post has 4 key functions:
1. Provide 1:1 advocacy and case work support to asylum seekers and refugees.
2. By adopting an Outreach Model, make contact with people currently not accessing services, especially those living in outlying neighbourhoods.
3. Keep up to date on emerging needs and re-prioritise tasks accordingly.
4. Work in partnership with specialist support agencies to ensure asylum seekers and refugees receive services that address their needs.
The issues affecting asylum seekers and refugees are constantly evolving, and will require the worker to be adaptable, flexible and responsive. For example, refugees are currently experiencing exceptionally high levels of homelessness, so this will be a current priority. However, if homelessness reduces then project resources will be targeted elsewhere. The post will operate from SWAP.s main base in Wigan, our Leigh Hub and community venues as directed by the needs of asylum seekers and refugees, including venues run by partner agencies. The post is currently funded for two years.
Key duties and responsibilities
· Provide 1:1 case work support to asylum seekers and refugees living in the Wigan borough.
· Provide information to asylum seekers and refugees on issues affecting them (e.g. the asylum system, housing, asylum support, benefits, health and social care, education, employment and volunteering)
· Make contact with service users currently not engaging with support services, including those who face barriers to participation and those living in outlying neighbourhoods
· Help service users understand the options available to them and help them make informed decisions (e.g. Voluntary Returns, family re-union, working under the Skills Shortage List).
· To assess clients’ needs and devise appropriate support pathways
· Develop relationships with partner agencies and establish referral pathways (e.g. The Resettlement Team, Serco, The Brick)
· To kept abreast of current and emerging asylum and immigration policy
· Train, mentor and support volunteer
· To refer clients to other SWAP services and activities
· To assist in the delivery of training, educational and awareness raising programmes to local groups and organisations (e.g. schools, community groups, faith groups)

Key responsibilities:
One-to-one support
You will provide intensive one-to-one support bespoke to kinship carers and their families over a six-month intervention, working within the Kinship Connected delivery model. This may include, but is not limited to:
· Practical and emotional support to kinship carers virtually or in-person in their home or community.
· Signposting or referring to relevant national and local services.
· Liaising with other professionals and organisations.
· Attending professional meetings when the carer needs extra support (e.g. CIN. CP, family group conference, school meetings).
· Making referrals to other Kinship services such as Advice, Someone Like Me, Peer-to-Peer.
· Signposting carers to secure grants from local and national funders.
· Setting goals for change following Kinship Connected processes, in partnership with the kinship carer.
· Monitor, review and revise these goals to ensure carers are on track and goals remain relevant and as part of the ‘closing’ process as the carers complete the intervention.
Peer group facilitation and management
You will be responsible for planning, organising, facilitating peer support groups for kinship carers in your area, working in line with the Kinship Connected delivery model. This will involve:
· Developing existing groups and setting up new groups as required.
· Working closely with Kinship’s peer-to-peer service where appropriate.
· Collaborating with kinship carers, the local authority, and community partners to set up virtual and in-person support groups in your commissioned area.
· Planning, preparing, facilitating virtual and in-person support groups.
· Promoting groups in the local area to kinship carers and organisations who work with them, including contributing to the creation of promotional materials.
Participation
· According to Kinship’s Volunteering policy and other related policies, support kinship carers to engage with opportunities such as volunteering in virtual and in-person support groups.
· Work proactively to enable kinship carers to influence the design and delivery of the peer support groups delivered in their area (such as topics, time / date, location).
· Support Kinship’s communications and engagement strategy by providing case studies and sourcing images for newsletters and local media to promote the programme.
Safeguarding and risk management
Kinship has a robust safeguarding structure. You will be supported by a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Designated Deputy Safeguarding Leads (DDSL).
· Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of abuse or neglect, following national legislation and procedures and Kinship’s own safeguarding procedures.
· Liaise with your line manager and safeguarding lead regarding safeguarding concerns, following Kinship’s policies and processes.
· Provide updates and information for managers about cases of concern.
· Complete risk assessments for events or groups with families in line with Kinship’s policies and processes to be signed off by a DSL or DDSL.
· Follow Kinship’s health and safety policies to keep yourself and your clients safe, such as Lone Working Policy, Home Visit Policy and other relevant policies.
Monitoring and Evaluation
· Ensure casework, attendance, feedback, and other data related to service delivery are regularly and accurately recorded on our Salesforce database in line with Kinship’s policy and best practice.
· Ensure completion of carer registration forms, review forms, and closure forms, taking details that will be used to evidence impact.
· Collect case studies from your kinship carers to help demonstrate impact.
· Contribute to any reports for local authority partners as required with data and case studies.
· Attend monitoring meetings as required.
· Engage in quality assurance processes in line with ongoing programme development.
Relationship and stakeholder management
· In partnership with the Senior Project Worker, enable local authorities to understand the programme and pathways for how to make referrals.
· Support practitioners' meetings with local authorities to encourage referrals, discuss cases, and ensure local authority confidence in the programme.
· Where applicable, work with local authorities to raise awareness of kinship care and to reach and support kinship carers through the programme.
· Where possible and relevant, represent Kinship at external events and meetings to raise awareness of the programme and to influence other organisations.
General duties and tasks
· To attend and engage with team and general staff meetings.
· To personally prepare for and attend case reviews, one-to-ones and appraisals with your line manager.
· To act at all times in the best interest of Kinship.
· To participate in the induction of new staff members and volunteers.
· To work with line manager to identify own training needs and undertake training and development.
· To engage in reflective practice, using opportunities for supervision and professional development as appropriate.
· Deputise for the Senior Project Worker as needed such as internal meetings or external meetings and events.
· Participate in opportunities provided by Kinship to develop your skills and knowledge such as staff training, ‘Lunch and learn’ sessions.
· To carry out other related duties as may from time to time be required to fulfil the mission of the team and organisation.
· To develop Kinship Care Week in your local area.
· Be willing to travel across England as necessary to attend events and raise the profile of the service and kinship care.
Standard Clauses

We are looking for an additional support worker with lived experience of self-harm to join our existing team working with people who have attended A&E for self-harm treatment. This role has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of self-harm. Self-harm can take many forms but for the purposes of this role we mean things which someone has done to themselves with the clear intention of causing harm.
This role is not about sharing personal stories of self-harm, but some exploration of your experiences will be part of the interview and training process. All questions will be provided in advance of the interview and training will be run in a small, closed group. Both the interviews and training will be facilitated by people who have used their self-harm experiences in their working lives.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Support the day to day running of the Lived Experience Service by:
- Offering tailored follow up support to people of all communities and genders who have attended A&E for self-harm treatment including face to face or video chat meetings, researching community support and guidance in finding and using self- help resources based on the principles of mutual experience, empathy and holistic support;
- Where appropriate sharing ideas about ways of achieving goals, drawing on personal experiences and assisting people to decide what they want to achieve based on their circumstances and personal resources;
- Administrative tasks including researching and updating service resources and maintaining accurate client records in line with organisational confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding policies.
- Supporting their own wellbeing by engaging in regular supervision and appropriate training
2. Contribute to the overall running of the organisation through:
- Attending team meetings
- Supporting the development and/or running of organisational resources, events and campaigns relevant to their role

About the job
We are seeking a confident and experienced Modern Slavery Case Worker Assistant with a wide range of skills and importantly, a ‘can do’ approach. As a Modern Slavery Case Worker Assistant, you will provide high quality practical and emotional support to potential victims of modern slavery within a safehouse setting.
You will work as a member of the team providing a safe temporary environment for vulnerable adults who have experienced trauma and exploitation. The role will involve assisting service users with increasing practical skills and self-confidence to empower and enable independent and safe living.
This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Applicants must be willing to work flexibly, which will include on call duties, evenings, weekends and bank. Both roles will work between two properties approx. 4 miles apart on a Rota basis. A full induction and continuous training will be given.
The 30 hour per week post will be shifts from 4pm-10pm, 5 days per week, however, the initial induction will consist of day shifts until knowledge of safe house is comprehensive.
You must have experience of working with vulnerable adults, the ability to work within a ‘risk associated’ environment and ideally experience of working within a residential or community setting with non-UK citizens. Relevant social care qualifications or suitable experience of supporting vulnerable people is essential.

About the Service
The Refuge Service provide emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and sexual violence. Refuge Case workers provide emotional and practical support this can include housing support, legal options, reporting to the police, help around child contact, benefits, financial advice and accessing therapeutic support services.
About the Role
You will provide advice and support to women who have experienced domestic abuse in a refuge setting working across two sites. You will carry out risk and needs assessments, develop support plans and carry out key work with women survivors. You should have a minimum of two years’ experience of working with this or a similar client group. An in depth understanding of the needs of women and children from a diverse background is essential.
About You
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
You will have experience of managing risk and following case management procedures to meet the needs of the client group, and the ability to work with women to help them to understand their needs, risk assess, develop safety plan, and support them in linking with other agencies.
You will have a working knowledge of the available legal remedies, housing, and welfare benefits, as well as experience of providing workshops.
In addition to case management, you will be required to undertake housing management responsibilities including health and safety and maintenance of the refuges. You will have excellent administrative and time management skills.

This role is based at our centre a short walk from Clapham Common tube station, in London. We support homeless people from the local area and further afield. Our services are open access, so the people who come to the Ace of Clubs are diverse and from multiple walks of life. Consequently their needs can be complex, so we are looking for a skilled communicator who can support people, many of who live chaotic lifestyles. Our purpose at the Ace of Clubs is to address people’s basic human needs by providing food, clothing, toiletries, and practical support. We help people link up with housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Our Support Workers work to help individuals overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing, whether it be through guidance in the support system, learning new skills or supporting service users to build the confidence and skills to enable them to navigate their life challenges and advocate for themselves. KEY DUTIES
- To participate in the provision of advice and advocacy for service users addressing their needs in the following areas; Housing; Welfare; Health; Education; Employment, (this list is not exhaustive);
- Refer to and liaise with partners and agencies within the statutory and voluntary sector to secure positive outcomes for Centre Users, e.g. referring and signposting guests to accommodation providers, health services and other relevant internal and external support services, as necessary.
- Work in a manner which honours our organisational values and is responsive to the trauma and experiences of homelessness and vulnerable adults.
- Maintain essential records accurately on Charity Log, (ensuring high quality case recordings).
- Ensuring the Centre Manager is kept informed of all safeguarding and risk concerns.
- Employing creative thinking and practices to ensure that guests are supported and motivated to achieve their goals.

About the role:
The post holder will work within The Passage’s Community Services as a Complex Case Outreach Worker and will lead on case management for people experiencing homelessness who are presenting in the footprints in which the team operate and/or who are accessing the Resource Centre. The post-holder will support individuals with substance use support needs and/or mental health issues and will lead on work with clients who are experiencing alcohol and/or drug dependencies and who may also be experiencing mental health problems or other health or social care needs.
Main duties:
- To manage a caseload of clients presenting within the footprints in which the Engagement & Outreach service operate and individuals who are accessing The Passage Resource Centre. To support clients with complex needs, supporting them to identify and work towards recovery and away from homelessness.
- Carry out assessments, case management, support planning and the delivery of interventions for clients including those experiencing mental health and/or substance misuse issues who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
- Provide assertive outreach and engagement with street-based service users presenting with complex needs and barriers to engagement. Carry out monthly street-based audits to inform reporting and analysis of service outcomes.
- Support clients who are rough sleeping or involved in day time activity in the footprints in which the team operate to end their homelessness by linking them in with appropriate internal and external support services relevant to their needs. To provide support to clients who are accommodated, but may require ongoing support in order to maintain this accommodation, linking them in to appropriate local services.
General responsibilities:
- In conjunction with your line manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Passage.
- To participate in internal/external meetings as required, attend training events, conferences and other functions as necessary.
- To participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.
- To ensure that all The Passage policies and procedures are being adhered to, particularly those relating to Code of Practice and Confidentiality.
- To contribute to the effective implementation of The Passage’s Diversity and Equality Policy as it affects both The Passage and its work with vulnerable adults.

Desired experience:
- Significant experience of delivering support services to socially excluded clients in a street based/day centre or similar setting.
- Significant experience of working in a mental health and/or substance misuse setting, working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
- Experience of providing a fully sensitive and responsive service to clients in a psychologically informed manner.
- Experience of working cooperatively with external partner agencies, e.g. Police, Social Services, NHS, as well as housing providers and voluntary agencies.
- Experience of assessing client needs and supporting clients to address their needs through assertive outreach and case management.
- Experience of working in a client-centered recovery focused approach and the necessary professional social skills to initiate and maintain constructive and appropriate relations with clients and agencies.
Desired knowledge:
- Understanding the support needs of the street populations with complex health, and housing needs.
- Knowledge of services and legislative environment regarding housing, health, work and immigration as it relates to people experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing and collate and evidence work and outcomes using case management databases.
- Knowledge of Psychologically Informed Frameworks.
- An understanding of the causes of homelessness and, in particular, the needs of people who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
- Knowledge of housing pathways available to dual diagnosis clients and how to access them.
- A working knowledge of how to support people with either substance or mental health needs.

We are seeking an experienced Asylum Support Advice Worker to help deliver our new maternity health justice partnership targeting refugee and asylum seeking women in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire.
About Maternity Action
Established in 2008, Maternity Action protects and strengthens the rights of pregnant women and new parents to employment, social security and healthcare, irrespective of migration status.
We employ specialist employment and asylum/immigration lawyers who represent women who experience maternity discrimination at work, difficulties in accessing maternity pay and benefits or are wrongly charged for their NHS maternity care. We provide second tier advice to NGOs on housing and subsistence for refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women. We support strategic litigation within our areas of expertise. Our policy and campaigning work is driven by the injustice we see from our advice services. We prioritise issues affecting low income and marginalised women, including migrant and asylum seeking women.
Maternity Action has grown over the past four years and we are now a team of 26. We are passionate about our work, but we are committed to our staff having a genuine work life balance. The majority of our employees have some form of caring responsibilities and Maternity Action is a genuinely flexible employer. 22 of our 26 staff work part time and staff are located across the UK. We have recently expanded our operations and have developed two Health Justice Partnerships with NHS Trusts. About the role
We have secured funding for a 12 month pilot maternity health justice partnership targeting refugee and asylum seeking women in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire. This is the first UK maternity health justice partnership targeting this group of women. We have an existing maternity health justice partnership in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire which advises on employment rights, maternity pay and mainstream benefits.
You will deliver advice to pregnant women and new mothers on Home Office support and healthcare entitlements and provide ongoing advice and support where needed. You will also refer to other support services as needed, including food banks, baby banks and community groups. You will deliver outreach and engagement sessions to maternity services and voluntary organisations, working with our Outreach and Engagement Officer. You will also contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of the pilot. The role will keep up to date with asylum support and related developments.
This role forms part of our Immigration and Asylum Advice team, which is led by our Senior Legal Officer. The team consists of a Legal Officer, Senior Project Officer and Casework Support Officer. The role will coordinate with the advice and outreach workers delivering our employment and benefits maternity health justice partnership in the region.
About you
We are looking for an experienced adviser with a thorough knowledge of asylum support and experience of liaising with the Home Office and Migrant Help. You will have experience of delivering complex advice, preferably by telephone, of advocating on behalf of vulnerable client groups and working with interpreters. You will have an excellent phone manner and the ability to deal with discussions of sensitive health issues.
We particularly welcome applications from Black and minoritised ethnic candidates and from people with lived experience of pregnancy or parenting, low income or migration. We welcome applications from people returning from a career break.
Working arrangements
The post is 21 hours per week. There is a core day (Thursday) and we are otherwise flexible about start/finish time and days worked, within normal business hours.

Salary is £37,616 pro rata plus 8% pension.
