We’re excited to lead a pan-Wales Financial Health and Wellbeing Service funded through our Macmillan partnership to directly help people with a cancer diagnosis.

We're recruiting experienced Welfare Benefits Caseworkers across areas in Wales in the Hywel Dda & Cwm Taf University Health Boards for a 3 year Fixed Term contract.

With your expert and specialist knowledge and experience in the Welfare Benefits advice area you’ll be able to apply this within the cancer community at a crucial time for these individuals to meet their needs.

You'll need to be available to attend an Assessment Centre in Cardiff week commencing 20th April for a 1st June start date

The Tenovus Macmillan Welfare Benefits Caseworker Role Details

Covering the Hywel Dda or the Cwm Taf University Health Board this is an important and meaningful advice role in the cancer community for an experienced Welfare Benefits Caseworker. Managing a fully triaged caseload of welfare benefits clients across your specific area when it comes to cancer you’ll put your existing expert welfare benefits knowledge to good use, so your clients receive their full benefits and entitlements.

Your work is mainly done over the phone but may also be in person or digitally where you’ll be delivering a casework management and advice service for people with a cancer diagnosis and providing all the necessary support.

You’ll receive your referrals through your colleagues delivering the first contact element of the service. These referrals will contain full details of the advice needs ready for you to action the next steps. You’d also be required to independently build professional partner working relationships to support your role across the University Health Board as we grow the service.

What’s key is our service user experience is slick, professional and personable whether that’s with partners or services users.  You’ll be supporting and advising your own caseload of clients with a chronic cancer condition or a life-limiting cancer prognosis so knowledge of working with people with disabilities, people too ill to work or in a distressing situation is something you can comfortably manage in a targeted environment.

Whilst we offer flexible home working options, we require your ability to commute across your specific University Health Board (Hywel Dda or Cwm Taf) and to our Cardiff Head Office when necessary with Head Office working welcomed. For example, you’ll need to be flexible to commute to Cardiff with a higher concentration of days during your induction and probation period for training and team interaction on at least a monthly basis or across your University Health Board for partnership working.

Senior Caseworker – Pathways

Location: Disability Action & Advice Centre, 4, Waldegrave Road, Teddington TW11 8HT

Contract: Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary: £30,000 to £36,000 (depending on experience)

Ruils is run by, and for, Disabled people. We exist to remove the barriers that prevent Disabled people from living independent lives. Our vision is a society where all individuals have choice and control to live independently. We provide information, advice, advocacy, befriending and activities to our clients and their families.

Pathways is a specialised welfare advice service that provides information, advice, advocacy and representation for Disabled adults (over the age of 18) living in the Richmond Borough. We work with clients, supporting them to navigate the complex Housing, Benefits and Social Care systems. In this role, you would be providing information, guidance and advice to Disabled people and their families, enabling them to have more choice and control over their lives.

We are also part of a larger network of Disabled-led advice services. Working together, we have developed pathways for Disabled trainee case workers, collated data on Housing and Benefits issues and have fed into important consultations and campaigns.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for you to work one-to-one with clients to effect change, whilst also having a positive impact on the wider system.

We are looking for someone who:

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide timely and accurate advice on welfare benefits, housing and social care to support Disabled people to live independently.
• Analyse clients’ situations, identify solutions and guide them through complex systems, signposting where appropriate.
• Work with clients on a short to medium term basis, helping with referrals, forms, letters, appeals and navigating processes.
• Support clients to gather evidence and prepare for Benefit or Housing applications and appeals, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Attend key meetings and appeals with clients, advocating for them and helping them put their case forward confidently.
• Develop accessible information resources (guides, bulletins) to help clients navigate health, care, benefits and housing systems.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, contributing to forums, campaigns and shared problem-solving.
• Provide supervision and support to trainee caseworkers, including induction, case file reviews and contributing to their development.

About the role:

This role is based at our National Contact Centre in Cardiff.

As a Caseworker you will be: -

• Effectively manage a caseload of self-referrals or referred service users, delivering excellent services which support service goals to victims. Where relevant to undertake initial proactive contact with victims, explaining VS services and promoting the benefits of accessing support.
• Ensuring each victim receives an individually appropriate tailored support and information service that fully meets their needs, keeping complex needs central to all processes and decisions.
• Undertaking risk and needs assessments to address the specific needs of the client in line with VS operating procedures. To follow relevant safeguarding policies and procedures, working with safeguarding leads and other agencies to ensure an integrated approach to address any safeguarding concerns.

About this key role

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, our Floating Support Caseworker will be expected to provide essential support, advice and advocacy to young people on accommodation-related needs, including homelessness prevention. You will produce support and risk management plans based on assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and ensure all monitoring information and evidence is being recorded and collated in line with agreed processes and procedures.

We will also count on you to deliver a holistic support service which will involve providing practical help that includes housing support, attending appointments, ETE guidance, benefits, budgeting, utilities and court attendance. Developing and maintaining relationships with partner agencies, including police, probation, children’s services and local authorities, is also a key aspect of this role, as is ensuring you close cases efficiently and positively.

• Substantial experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and communicating needs to professionals
• Experience of working as part of a multi-agency team

They will be working in collaboration with local partners to reduce reoffending.

The Caseworker for NOVA Northern Ireland will work in the community, in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) and other local partners to provide support to veterans at all stages of the justice pathway: pre-arrest, point of arrest, court process, custody, and transition back into the community.

About the role

As a Lead Worker (Intensive Case Management), you will deliver intensive, person-centred, and holistic support to people who are disadvantaged and need significant support to end their homelessness. About the Role

As a Domestic Abuse Caseworker you will provide high quality support to victims of domestic abuse and other crimes, leading on completing initial impact and risk assessments that are comprehensive and holistic. You will also contribute to providing cover for the local VS Helpline.

Provision of advice and casework 

• Provide money advice and casework covering the full range of debt advice topics including priority and non-priority debt and money advice issues

Future Foundations is an education programme of Katherine Low Settlement. Since 2004, KLS’ Future Foundations education team of 10 part-time staff and over 100 volunteers, have supported young refugees and their families in Battersea and the London Borough of Wandsworth to thrive in their education. Through mentoring, family support, casework and homework clubs, we provide the tailored support each young person and their family (if they have one) needs to overcome the barriers to education they face at home and school.

Person Specification

The following skills and experience are required for this post:

Essential

·      Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) to effectively support Arabic-speaking service users and families

·Experience of working with refugee communities and/or children/young people and/or vulnerable groups ensuring that clients’ needs are at the forefront of service planning and delivery

·Ability to manage an independent workload and support the wider team

·Ability to work as part of small team, whilst also working independently

·Personal attributes: hard working, organised, takes initiative, reliable, patient, high professional standards

·Excellent IT skills including MS Office suite and ability to use Internet, email and social media

·Committed to KLS’s mission, vision and values

·Passionate about social justice, education and championing the value of families from refugee communities

·Excellent communicating skills (oral and written) with refugee families, staff and partner organisations

Desirable

·Experience of planning, delivery and reporting in a similar voluntary sector project (preferably with refugee communities) 

·Experience and sensitivity working with vulnerable communities who are affected by mental health issues and past trauma. Empathetic, non-judgmental and able to form supportive but boundaried relationships with individuals

·Knowledge of up-to-date best practice as regards safeguarding the welfare of children and adults

·Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail

·A recognised casework/advice qualification

·Experience of collecting monitoring and evaluating data

·Aptitude for communicating in another language, particularly Somali, Farsi and/or Tigrinya

·Knowledge of Battersea / Wandsworth
