This is a critical role within the Strategy department, leading the approach to shaping and delivering its long-term direction. About Breadwinners

Breadwinners is a multi-award-winning social enterprise and charity that supports young people seeking asylum and refugees to have their first work experience in the UK, selling organic baked goods. Since 2016, we have steadily grown, and we are looking for our first Senior Fundraising Manager to help us take the next step in our growth journey. Breadwinner's unique model provides work, training and personal mentors, so that young refugees can start and progress in their careers, using our platform as a stepping stone. We achieve this goal through three consecutive programmes, using our award-winning bread stalls in markets across London and Brighton and wholesale for socially-minded cafes and restaurants.

Over the last 7 years, we have made a significant impact in supporting over 744+ programme participants, with an impressive 93% reporting notable improvements in their overall well-being, 76% of our Breadwinners programme participants progress into work, further education or volunteering, and all this while minimising our Carbon Footprint by 20.5% through the sale of organic goods. This year, we are planning to double our impact with young refugees, with recently secured funding, new markets, and a focus on our wholesale model.

1. Risers programme: A two-month early intervention programme designed to provide structured work experience, training, and mentorship to newly arrived young people seeking asylum through our 18 stalls.

2. Breadwinners programme: The follow-up programme for refugees with the right to work, which involves working as a market stall manager for six months and earning the UK living wage.

3. Proofers programme: A progression programme that entails working remotely as part-time online sales representatives for six months, managing our wholesale delivery model.

We’re looking for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young refugees and people seeking asylum. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of strategic thinking, hands-on fundraising experience, excellent communication skills and a strong sense of purpose. You will be working directly with the Managing Director, forming a team with a part-time Fundraising Manager, in direct contact with our passionate Core team, Board of Trustees and volunteers to secure grant funding, and develop our corporate and major donors streams. You will help to drive the growth of Breadwinners and enable the team to deliver a bigger positive impact for young refugees new to the UK.

Responsibilities

Fundraising from Trusts and Foundations

• Identify and research new funding opportunities to build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects.

• Write and develop compelling funding proposals for both new and existing trust and foundation partners.

• Lead on securing six-figure grants for the forthcoming year, working closely with a part-time Fundraising Manager and the Managing Director.

• Collaborate with the Programmes team to create engaging donor reports and impactful communications that reflect the voices of young refugees and our wider community.

• Prepare clear, strategic briefings for senior colleagues ahead of meetings with funders and key stakeholders.

• Produce detailed and accurate impact and financial reports for the Board and funders, ensuring transparency and accountability.

• Understand trends in the fundraising landscape and flag both opportunities and risks. 

• Use Salesforce to manage the fundraising pipeline.

Developing the Corporate and Major Donors Stream

• Help shape and grow Breadwinners’ Corporate and Major Donor fundraising streams.

• Independently manage a portfolio of corporate partners and major donors, ensuring exceptional stewardship, five-figure gifts and year-on-year growth..

• Proactively cultivate a pipeline of new corporate and high-net-worth individuals, using creative approaches to connect them with Breadwinners’ mission.

• Support the successful delivery of corporate partnerships, including employee engagement, staff fundraising, and volunteering initiatives.

• Build and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with external stakeholders, including funders, donors, and volunteers.

• Foster a culture of excellent relationship management and donor care across the organisation.

• Use Salesforce to manage relationships.

Finance

• Help the Managing Director keep a healthy level of restricted and unrestricted funds. 

• Help track progress against income targets and report on performance regularly to the fundraising team.

• Work with the Managing Director and Operations Teams to develop budgets for funding proposals, ensuring all organisational costs are covered.

• Contribute to the management of budgets and assist in preparing forecasts and annual plans.

• Flag risks or opportunities that may affect income generation for the Managing Director.

• Use Xero to manage Profit and Loss at the organisation and funding level.

 Team Support and Collaboration

• Direct line management of a part-time Fundraising Manager, providing guidance, support, and oversight to help achieve fundraising goals.

• Play a proactive role in facilitating a positive, collaborative and high-performing fundraising team culture.

• Participate in programmes, training, participant graduations and delivery to fully support and experience Breadwinners Theory of change and the impact it plays on young refugees. 

• Leverage the experiences of young programme participants sensitively to help steer the fundraising strategy. 

• Work with the Managing Director and Board of Trustees to ensure fundraising plans align with organisational needs and priorities.

• Carry out additional fundraising and administrative tasks as needed to help the MD and team.

Whitechapel Gallery is seeking a talented and hands-on Finance Business Partner (Accounts and Reporting) to bring clarity, insight and practical support to our financial reporting. In this role you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the accuracy, compliance and integrity of our accounts while helping colleagues across the Gallery make confident financial decisions and deliver world-class exhibitions and programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts for Whitechapel Gallery and Whitechapel Gallery Ventures.
• Prepare monthly consolidated accounts, including income & expense reports, balance sheets, and cash flow.
• Ensure the integrity of financial data through monthly review of transactions and correct coding to nominals and departments.
• Ensure compliance with donor restrictions, public sector, and charitable sector regulations.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, prepayments, and stock.

The role:
This leadership role will provide grant-making and strategic support capacity to the AFF team, which currently consists of 7 people reporting to the Director of A Fairer Future. The role will take on existing relationships in the form of a portfolio of larger grants at various points in their funding journey. This person will pick up these relationships and ensure continuity as well as assessing new applications.  This role will take a lead on strategic initiatives, driving impact in the Gender Justice and Children and Young People’s Rights priorities.  Committed to social justice, the candidate will be ambitious to help create change using the foundation's full range of tools and approaches. This role will be responsible for informing, influencing and monitoring the implementation of the AFF strategy and programme, including developing and assessing proposals for activities, leading on the delivery of impact, and maintaining external networks to provide strategic guidance to the Foundation.

Convening collaborations, commissioning research and mobilising networks to create change will be core aspects of this role in addition to supporting other team members with expertise relating to the two sectors. This person will be responsible for managing the larger grant relationships throughout out the grant cycle, capturing and embedding learning along the way. They will also be responsible for site visits and facilitating online discussions with organisations, as well as representing the foundation at sector forums and events concentrating on the AFF priority areas.

The culture at the foundation is collaborative and nurturing, so working closely with colleagues to share ideas and learn from each other will be essential in this role.

The person:
The successful candidate will have substantial grant-making experience in addition to having knowledge of the Children and Young People and/or Gender Justice sectors, perhaps gained through work in the voluntary or local authority sector, or through another funder. Highly organised, intellectually curious and pragmatic, this person will be able to unpick complex information and will be confident and experienced in assessing grant applicants’ financial information. They will understand the charity funding world and importantly, the challenges faced by marginalised communities across the UK in the face of widespread inequity. The AFF team works with the Involving Young People’s Collective, candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the value of co-production.

IT confident and systematic in their approach, this person will also be confident and empathetic team leader in addition to being an excellent communicator, both in person and in written work. Excellent attention to detail, thorough and collaborative in their approach to work, this person will be a real team player whilst being able to work under their own steam, working in a fast-paced environment.

A broad understanding and experience of systems change principles and an appreciation of the nuanced intersections between the various priorities of the AFF programme will be important to success in this role. The ability to contribute to the effectiveness of a busy team through encouragement and inspiration will also be important.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Role Scope: Routine financial oversight including aspects of management and statutory accounting, budgeting, treasury, payroll and audit.
Role Description: The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing accurate financial records and controls for Waverley Abbey Trust and subsidiary operations, managing a team of three, taking care of day-to-day banking, VAT returns, gift aid, insurance, etc..
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, including day to day banking transactions, current and deposit accounts, reconciliations and authorisation of all payments, payroll, and other transactions.
•Ability to interpret complex financial information and provide updates and information as needed.
•Assist the Finance Director (FD) in organisation-wide budgetary planning.
•Monitor cash flow, bank accounts and financial transactions.
•Efficient and rigorous financial administration including but not limited to VAT returns, gift aid, legacies, payroll, the workplace pensions scheme, and staff credit card management.
•Maintain the fixed assets register and monthly depreciation of assets
•Supervision and development of the Finance team to improve efficiency and working practices
•Provide timely, accessible and useful financial reports for senior managers and other operational team members and proactively develop the quality and usefulness of financial reporting and communications to improve business performance.
•All external and internal obligations, accounts, budgets and forecasts are prepared and reported in a prompt, accurate and timely manner.
•Work with the FD and external accountants /auditors to manage the preparation and audit of end-of-year statutory accounts.
•Alongside the FD, ensure all organisational financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation and evolve and ensure adherence to finance policies and procedures.
•Collaborate in the design and implementation of financial systems and process improvements.
•Stay up to date with any relevant changes to charity legal and financial responsibilities, for example charity commission and HMRC reporting requirements.
Key Requirements & Skills
•Preferable- Degree level qualification or ATT (or comparable) in accounting, finance management or similar.
•At least 10 years’ experience in finance management and accounting.
•Senior Management experience.
•Ideally, not essentially, having some experience of the Charity and Higher Education sectors
•High levels of familiarity and comfort with Sage 200, Microsoft office packages and computer-based accountancy packages.
•Experience of payroll admin including workplace pensions and leave provisions (i.e. Maternity leave etc).
•Confident and clear communicator in both written and verbal forms of communication
•Highly organised with superior attention to detail, especially in planning , report writing and budgeting.
 

This is a senior leadership role at The Charity, as part of the Extended Leadership Team, and reporting into the Director of People and Culture. The role will be responsible for leading a small, capable team of HR, Volunteering, and Learning and Engagement colleagues in support of our strategic priorities. We’re a small team, requiring you to flex between strategic activity and hands-on operational management.

You’ll be an experienced Human Resources professional with the expertise and knowledge to develop and drive forward our people priorities, supporting team members and volunteers to thrive at work. And as a member of the CIPD, ideally Chartered, you will understand the importance of working in true partnership to advise and support your leadership peers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leading People Operations: embedding excellent policies and processes, and advisory support

· Provide leadership of the the day-to-day People and Culture team at the Charity, including direct management of the People and Culture Manager, Volunteer Development Manager, and Learning and Engagement Manager.

· Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including engaging Champions Groups e.g. EDI Champions, to make The Charity a great place to work

· Provide senior leadership advisory support to Heads of Teams peers and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure we have the right skills and culture to enable our strategic priorities

· Provide advice, guidance and support to leaders and manager on employment law, people policies and practices, and manage complex employee relations matters as required

· Oversee the management of people operations suppliers, including with payroll and pensions, and setting and tracking the People and Culture budget in support of our people priorities

· Work with the People and Culture Manager to develop and deliver innovative recruitment plans that attract talented and diverse candidates, and inclusive selection and onboarding processes
