Alzheimer’s Research UK has established a number of high profile and strategic programmes of work to help us advance our work towards a cure. The Head of Strategic Programmes plays a pivotal role in developing the work of these initiatives and ensuring that they have opportunities to partner and grow.
This is a key role in supporting our translational and drug discovery work to help us achieve impact for people affected by dementia. The post-holder will have extensive experience in managing complex research programmes, engaging and influencing high-level stakeholders as well as bringing expertise in research to deliver the strategic vision of the programmes.
The post holder will work closely across the research team to scope and develop new programmes of work and will work across the organisation with colleagues in Policy and Communications, Fundraising, Finance and Governance to ensure the successful delivery of cross organisational programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Existing strategic programmes
· Oversee the management of ARUK’s key strategic programmes including the Drug Discovery Alliance (DDA), Brains for Dementia Research (BDR), and Blood Biomarker Challenge, ensuring strong governance and review processes.
· Develop and manage relationships with senior programme stakeholders to identify and pursue opportunities for further impact, ensuring that programme objectives and structures continue to be met.
· Ensure finances are appropriately managed with contracts being developed and agreed in a timely manner and new partnership or commercial agreements are appropriately managed.
· Champion the meaningful involvement of people with lived experience of dementia in ARUK’s strategic initiatives, ensuring their perspectives and insights are embedded across our work.
New strategic programmes
· Implement new strategic programmes, working closely with the Research leadership team and teams across ARUK to build new approaches and to ensure long term success.
· Oversee timelines, governance, and risk management and provide strategic updates to senior leadership to enable informed decision-making and sustained progress
· Build strong, collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders across the research community and with people with lived experience, harnessing their expertise and perspectives to strengthen and guide ARUK’s programmes of work.
· Work with the Research Leadership team and research partnerships function to cultivate and maintain high-value relationships with strategic partners to open new opportunities for our strategic research initiatives.
Line Management and Team leadership
· Provide leadership to the Strategic Programmes team, nurturing a collaborative and high-performing culture. Offer regular insight and feedback while actively supporting professional growth and development.
· Work with the Research Leadership Team to develop and implement appropriate business plans and objectives that are in line with ARUK’s research strategy.
· Collaborate closely with the other Research Heads and wider team to deliver cross-cutting programmes and support priorities as needed.

Additional Information:
Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.
Roles that are classed as part of the Agile ways of working are not able to claim any costs for Mileage/Travel on Public Transport, Accommodation and/or Meals. This includes when attending the office for various meetings/events.

Community Organising
Through our theory of social change, called community organising, we train thousands of everyday people to lead change in their communities, equipping them with the skills to hold politicians and other powerholders to account. We are made up of 500+ member organisations in powerful alliances throughout the UK. Our members include schools, universities, faith groups, parents’ groups, health practices, charities, trade unions and other civil society organisations.
Purpose
At Citizens UK, our organisers and project staff work within communities to develop leaders, strengthen organisations, campaign for change and organise across difference. There are various project roles and operational, communication, finance and HR roles that support the organisation and project staff and organisers to deliver on this mission and work. This work is rewarding and can be challenging; it requires a personal commitment to inclusion, a willingness to listen and disagree respectfully, and an interest in working in an organisation where our staff, member institutions and leaders will come from a diversity of backgrounds and often hold views that may be very different from our own. Main Responsibilities
A Senior Organiser is mastering the craft of community organising and taking increasing responsibility for developing major campaigns, managing budgets and managing staff. They operate with a high degree of independence and are significant contributors to CUK-wide functions such as training. Senior Organisers model the broad-based community organising methodology in their work including the building of relational power, the recruitment and retention of dues-paying institutions, the development of leaders, the strengthening of member institutions, leader-led public actions, and the winning of systemic change.
You will bring communities together to drive change both locally, regionally, and nationally. This role will work closely with local civic institutions, such as churches, mosques, schools, universities, unions and other community groups to:

develop the leadership of people within those organisations - our 'leaders' who lead the campaigns we work on

help them identify the changes they want to see and create strategies to win those changes

strengthen institutions’ own abilities to achieve their missions.
This includes listening to members of the community to find common issues, engaging local decision-makers through meetings, and planning in-person ‘actions’, where you might hold those in power to account. This work will be rooted locally, but you will be a part of a bigger national drive to make change alongside diverse local alliances across the UK. Our Organisers and some project teams work closely with our member institutions and will be expected to attend member events that take place in the evenings and occasional weekends. We operate a Time Off in Lieu approach and have very flexible working arrangements to ensure a good work-life balance.
Please note that the role is Essex-wide and, as such, there is a practical expectation that the successful candidate will be able to drive between key locations across the county (with associated mileage costs being covered by Citizens UK).

Supporting children, young adults and their families - from those who are looking for general information about treatment or care, to those who need more detailed support from the point of diagnosis, you will be passionate about improving the lives of those affected by a brain tumour. ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Volunteering Experience Lead plays a vital role in ensuring volunteers feel connected, valued, and well-supported throughout their time with us. The post-holder will lead our efforts to recruit, retain and engage volunteers, shaping communications and initiatives that build a strong sense of belonging.
This role works across the entire volunteer journey, from attraction and onboarding to recognition and feedback. Kempton Steam Museum, operated by Kempton Great Engines Trust, is home to the world's largest operational triple-expansion steam engine, which supplied water to much of London until 1980. Our project, Kempton: Clean Water for Life - reaching a wider audience, is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Role
As an Operations Officer, you will report to the Area Safety and Facilities Manager. You will take the lead in managing the day-to-day operations of the Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre in Harrogate. You will also play a vital role in ensuring our wider estate—including retail spaces and our new warehouse—remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.
In this pivotal role, you will be the go-to person for keeping our buildings running smoothly. From coordinating maintenance and resolving issues, to managing compliance through the EVERY system, centralised ordering, and waste contracts—you will make sure our people have everything they need to do their best work.
Specifically, you will:
Hornbeam Centre Compliance and Building Management across all premises including retail shops and warehouses
· Liaise with contractors to ensure that they are delivering their expected obligations in line with their service level agreements/contracts.
· Manage the keyholder process to ensure that keys for the property across the estate are well controlled and managed.
· Be the first point of contact for any snagging or building issues with the Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre, booking contractors to ensure both a quick and cost-controlled resolution.
· Ensure that all weekly and monthly checks are successfully delegated in the event of your planned absence to ensure that there are no gaps in the records.
· Check and administer the building DEFIB.
· Ensure that the Centre is clean, tidy and free of Health & Safety risks, promptly addressing or reporting any concerns to the appropriate person whether that be internal or external.
Supporting Estate Building Compliance
· Complete and record Fire Alarm tests on a weekly basis.
· Ensure that all compliance documentation, as directed by the Area Safety and Compliance Manager, is appropriately filed and would be readily available, if required, for audit purposes.
· Monitor EVERY for all properties across the estate and be the first point of escalation for non-compliance to completing actions in the right timescales.
· Ensure that all annual services are proactively booked in for every property across the estate including, but not limited to, fire alarm servicing, legionella testing.
Centre Support
· Ensure that amenities within the Centre are in good working order, and repairs are carried out in a timely manner so that all colleagues are be able to successfully carry out their own roles and that the Centre is a suitable environment in which to do so.
Health and Safety Record Keeping
· Ensure that all compliance documentation, as directed by the Area Safety and Compliance Manager, is appropriately filed and would be readily available, if required, for audit purposes.
Administration of the Vehicle Fleet
· Proactively manage the administration of the charity’s vehicles, including but not limited to, pool cars and delivery/support vans.
· Book services and MOTs and adhoc repairs/work as required.
· Responsible for monitoring and managing the renewal checks of driving licences.
Centralisation of processes
· Support with the raising and approval of purchase orders and creating orders from suppliers, as required, by the Operations and eCommerce Team in a timely manner
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
· To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
· Previous experience of working in a Facilities role with a good understanding of the requirements of this role and H&S responsibilities.
· To have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· To have proven experience in facilities management and administration.
· To have good communication skills and proven experience of engaging with internal and external stakeholders, addressing queries and offering practical solutions.

This new role is essential to the success of the Finance & Fundraising teams, in providing effective finance and CRM administration support. Person specification
Essential :
· Excellent financial, administration & analytical skills
· Experience of financial systems such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
- Good understanding and experience of Excel
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in writing, over the phone, and face-to-face with the Museum’s different stakeholders
· Solid experience working with not-for-profit databases, such as Beacon CRM
· The ability to also work independently and take initiative within a small team
· Proven, excellent organisational skills, with close attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and prioritise responsibilities
· Excellent IT skills including in depth knowledge of financial systems, CRM, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and other cloud based digital systems
· An enjoyment of and willingness to engage with a wide variety of people and organisations
Able to act with discretion and maintain professional confidentiality at all times
· Appreciation of and support for the aims, values and ethos of The Foundling Museum

The Foundling Museum explores compelling stories of love, loss and care through art, music, writing and emotive objects.
The Museum is the UK’s only arts and heritage institution dedicated to the public understanding of lived experiences of care. Inspired by three great 18th-century activists - campaigner Thomas Coram, artist William Hogarth and composer George Frideric Handel - our mission is to inspire change and transform lives through the power of the arts. We believe in creative action that brings past and present together, to stimulate imaginations and enrich lives.
The Foundling is also the birthplace of creative philanthropy – combining art and fundraising to publicly support lived experiences of care. At the Foundling, the term ‘care’ refers to children’s social care, including foster care, adoption, kinship care, local authority care and children’s homes. Central to our work is well-being through exhibitions, events, collections, research and arts programmes with care leavers, looked-after children, and early years (birth to five years old).
Examples of our work include:
- Art projects which explore how our historic story of care still resonates today by addressing stigma and supporting mental health. We do this by working in a connected way, establishing collaborations with local health and community partners.
- ‘Tracing Our Tales’, our flagship training programme for care-experienced young people which was named Learning Programme of the Year at the 2022 Museums and Heritage Awards. Supported by our Learning Team, trainees learn art or creative writing skills in weekly sessions led by dynamic artists and poets, to build a creative portfolio.
- Exhibitions, collections and displays, ranging from tiny, touching identifying tokens left by mothers with their babies, to composer George Frideric Handel’s will. Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Partnerships & Relationship Management:
- Build, manage, and steward relationships with corporate supporters, focusing on the healthcare, legal, insurance, and life sciences sectors.
- Develop and implement AvMA’s corporate partnerships offer, including sponsorship packages and bespoke opportunities.
- Identify and research new corporate prospects, working with colleagues to make approaches and secure partnerships.
- Lead the ongoing development of AvMA’s corporate fundraising strategy and toolkit, ensuring they reflect best practice and meet organisational needs.
Workplace Giving & Employee Engagement:
- Support and promote employee fundraising initiatives, matched giving, payroll giving, and workplace events.
- Provide companies and staff teams with engaging fundraising materials, advice, and digital resources.
- Develop case studies and impact content to showcase corporate and employee fundraising.
Digital Fundraising & Content Development:
- Create and maintain engaging digital content for the corporate fundraising section of AvMA’s new website.
- Use online platforms and digital channels to promote corporate giving opportunities and events.
- Work with our communications team to integrate corporate messaging into wider campaigns.
Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of all corporate activity and income using Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
- Monitor, analyse, and report on performance against targets.
- Use data insights to improve supporter journeys and maximise income
General
- Attend in-person meetings and events as required (travel expenses covered).
- Contribute to AvMA’s wider fundraising strategy and cross-team projects.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required.
