Who are we looking for?

You will be a determined and passionate individual who wants to make a real difference to critically injured patients in London. You will have experience in developing and delivering robust supporter engagement, acquisition and retention campaigns.

The purpose of the Senior Direct Marketing Officer’s role is to deliver and evolve the acquisition and retention strategy, inspiring the people of London to become long-term supporters of the Charity.

Working closely with the Senior Direct Marketing Manager, you will manage campaign activity, from briefing through to execution, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement within the programme, particularly with regards to retention and delivery of the supporter journey.

You will be responsible for multi-channel donor acquisition, retention, upgrade and cross-sell campaigns across digital channels, print, telephone and provide occasional support to our successful Face to Face programme. You will take ownership of the delivery of our supporter journey for our regular donors, cash, lottery and raffle players – with huge scope to make a big impact in this area.

The role is offered on a full time, permanent basis. Although the post is based at Mansell Street, LAA offers a hybrid working arrangement.

Duties and Key relationships Marketing and Communications

This is a new role in the Marketing and Communications department and is responsible for the media relations of the Charity.  

PR and Media Relations

• To develop relevant media contacts, as well as contacts in the sector, to maximise the reach and coverage of key communications campaigns as well as wider organisational projects.

• Produce creative copy written for a variety of audience groups which champions and shows best practice of our tone of voice

• Develop and support in house PR roll out

· Work with external PR agency on selected press releases where relevant

· Write press releases in line with campaign launches and key moments

· Develop pitches and news stories and other promotional copy.

· Lead on media briefings that convey appropriate key messages and prepare spokespeople

· Identify and interview case studies and media spokespeople

Communications

• Maintain the communications calendar

• Maintain library system for press cuttings, monitor cuttings and report on results

• Lead on gathering powerful stories that highlight the impact of childhood cancer on the lives of children, young people and families

We are seeking a Direct Marketing Officer to join this team to manage and deliver a series of high standard direct marketing campaigns across our Regular Giving programme. This individual will be recruiting, retaining and upgrading regular donors to generate income through a variety of direct marketing methods such as direct dialogue, DRTV, digital, and direct mail. Responsibilities:

• To work with the team to collate an overall digital fundraising plan, communication channels, and measures of success
• Develop, create and implement multichannel digital fundraising campaigns, working with the relevant fundraising team
• To monitor new digital fundraising opportunities, agreeing tests with managers subject to budgets, and reporting on performance

• Work with website developers to implement Google Analytics and Facebook tracking across the website and third-party tools
• Experience with creating and producing newsletters and appeals within an email service provider and experience with building campaigns through social media tools like Facebook Ad Manager within the software packages

The Role 

As our Marketing Operations Officer your role will be to build brand awareness, helping to ensure the Yorkshire Cancer Research brand is accurately and consistently presented across all marketing touchpoints, including branded merchandise and printed collateral. 

Supporting the Marketing Manager, you will extend the charity’s reach across Yorkshire and support the marketing team to deliver effective marketing campaigns that engage supporters and help raise the profile of the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Work with stakeholders across the charity to define requirements for branded items and marketing products / services (e.g. branded merchandise / clothing, printed collateral, branded display items). 

• Manage the relationship with external marketing suppliers (e.g. printers, merchandise suppliers, signage companies etc.) to source marketing products and services.

• Identify suppliers, make product recommendations, obtain samples / quotes and evaluate which products/services represent overall best value for the charity and formulate recommendations for approval.

• Manage the procurement of marketing products/services in line with the charity’s procurement processes/policies.

• Be responsible for stock management for branded items/collateral across the charity. 

• Develop a preferred-supplier framework for marketing products/services in partnership with the Finance and Corporate Services department. 

• Manage the marketing budget for branded collateral and merchandise, ensuring team and charity processes are adhered to.

• Lead the Photo Permissions Process on behalf of the marketing team and ensuring appropriate permissions are in place for all images used in the charity’s marketing, ensuring that permissions are recorded appropriately on the supporter database.

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To have a degree or relevant qualification and or work experience (e.g. apprenticeship / further education). 

• To have experience of working in or with a marketing team.

• To have knowledgeable about the different types of products and/or services required to fulfil marketing campaigns.

• To have experience of working with external partners and suppliers to deliver projects and campaigns. 

• To have excellent project management and organisational skills.

• To have good working knowledge of matters relating to procurement, e.g. processes / value for money / wider considerations (e.g. sustainability).

• To have customer service experience. 

• To have good collaboration skills and confidence in working with external suppliers and internal stakeholders.

• To have a commitment to continuous improvement, an enthusiasm for marketing and a passion for excellence.

• Act as the Brand custodian, ensuring consistent application of brand guidelines across all content and campaigns, and assisting colleagues in understanding and implementing these guidelines.

• Manage social media and email calendars, maintaining up-to-date content planners for weekly planning meetings and ensuring a balanced mix of topics and calls to action.

• Implement organic and paid social media campaigns with clear objectives and maintain consistent and compelling brand representation across all marketing materials and communications.

Person Specification:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Trello, and other collaborative tools.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other content creation applications.
• Familiarity with social media platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok, with a willingness to learn new platforms.
• Strong copywriting skills adaptable to various audiences.
• Experience in reporting and evaluating communications or marketing activities using in-platform reporting and Google Analytics.
• Familiarity with CRM systems, Mailchimp, or similar e-commerce platforms.
• Experience in delivering marketing and communications plans across social media, email marketing, and web channels.
• Ability to create original content and curate content for owned and third-party channels.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships across multiple teams and collaborate effectively to solve problems.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in various styles and formats.
• Confidence to offer insights, expertise, and support to colleagues and provide regular feedback to supervisors.
