Now in our 30th year, The Eikon Charity supports children and young people across Surrey to feel and be safe, heard, and supported.

Growing up in today’s world can be incredibly challenging. That’s why we empower children and young people to find the inner and outer resources they need – skills, knowledge and resilience – as they develop and navigate life.

Background to the role

At Eikon we are poised to deliver an increase in our vital, evidence-based services across Surrey and the South-East, as well as to share our model of success and influence children and young people’s services across the UK. We know, and others know, that what we do has an impact on our children and young people who, tragically, need more of everything we offer as their challenges increase.

We are now looking for passion, commitment and bold leadership from our new Chair. You will have had a senior career in the public, private or voluntary sector, you’ll have grown an organisation sustainably, leading with vision and courage, and engaging and influencing stakeholders internally and externally. You will be entrepreneurial and forward-focused with ambition to effect the change that you will believe in as wholeheartedly as we do. You will lead the Board in a way that ensures we remain relevant and fit for purpose for our next season of growth and impact, while also retaining our resilience and sustainability. You will ensure our CEO and senior leadership team are empowered to lead as effectively as possible in an increasingly complex and challenging environment.

What your day to day in this role will look like:

You’ll show bold and strategic leadership and build a good relationship with our CEO, along with the rest of our leadership team. Efficiency and effectiveness will be key in this governance role, as well as maintaining external relations.

Location: Nottinghamshire - we hope our Trustees have a deep understanding of local people. Our Board meetings and AGM take place in person (with the exception of the January meeting which is online).

What is the time commitment? 

The charity holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, with each meeting lasting around 2 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April and July.

In addition, Trustees need to set aside a minimum of 2 hours reading time before each board meeting.

. The AGM follows the board meeting on the third Thursday of October, with the meeting lasting around 1.5 hours. In addition, a minimum of 1 hour reading time is required prior to the AGM.

• There may be specific occasions when a Trustee is required to attend an event to open/close it, such as our annual staff conference

• Get to know the charity’s services and infrastructure within the first 3 years/initial tenure of the post and continue to have contact with relevant departments during subsequent 3-year tenures. Feedback on service/infrastructure visits is a standard Board agenda item.

. The charity board also has a Finance & Audit Committee which has its own Terms of Reference and has meetings separate from the Full Board Meetings. The membership of this committee is determined by the Board

• Trustees serve a three-year term of office and can be re-elected to serve additional three-year terms

What training will you be given?

We offer a full induction programme and ongoing support from the charity, other Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team plus occasional external development.

Who we're looking for:

The Trustee role is open to all those who are either a trained lawyer or who has a strong legal background and in addition, the Board of Trustees particularly welcomes experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Issues relating to work with, and for, older people or lived experience and potentially any of the following skills.
• Legal Skills
• Fundraising
• Public Relations and Marketing
• Campaigning
• Education and Learning
• Digital Strategy
• HR
• Strategy and planning skills and performance monitoring in commercial and/or not-for-profit organisations
• Developing and monitoring budgets

The Role

We are now seeking a Trustee with strong financial skills and sound understanding of the regulatory and governance landscape to join our Board, act as the lead for financial oversight, and help guide the organisation through its next stage of growth and impact.

Trustees are expected to use their knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure that Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity achieves its charitable objectives, represents the interests of all stakeholders, and acts as ambassadors for the charity.

Principle Responsibilities

· Strategic Leadership: Provide direction and advice that aligns with the charity's strategic plan and objectives, ensuring we stay true to RDMCC's mission and values.

· Governance and Compliance: Ensure effective governance and the smooth running of the organisation, maintaining financial stability and adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements, including those set by the Charity Commission.

· Financial Oversight: Monitor the charity's financial health, ensuring strong internal controls, risk management, and financial reporting. Consider the financial impact of new or revised activities, making sure RDMCC operates within its means.

· Strategic Approval: Approve strategic plans, budgets, reserves policies, and authorisation limits, ensuring that RDMCC has the resources-both financial and human-to meet its goals.

· Executive Support: Recruit, appoint, and support the Chief Executive, delegating the day-to-day management of the organisation to them while providing oversight.

· Investments: Ensuring that our funds are invested responsibly and with care.

· Representation: Represent the Board at events, engaging with external stakeholders to promote and advance RDMCC's mission.

· Stakeholder Engagement: Connect with volunteers, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to stay informed about our activities and the issues that affect our work.

· Ambassadorship: Act as an ambassador for RDMCC, upholding our reputation and promoting our values in all your activities.

· Remuneration Oversight: Oversee the remuneration, compensation, and benefits provided to staff, ensuring they are fair and aligned with the charity's policies and legal requirements.

Finance responsibilities

· To Chair the Finance & Investment Sub-committee.

· Oversee the financial strategy, budget and long-term sustainability of the charity.

· Liaise with the CEO and Director of Finance and HR on key financial matters.

· Support the development of management accounts, annual accounts, and statutory returns, ensuring compliance with charity law, Companies Act (where applicable), and relevant regulations (e.g., SORP).

· Lead on relationship management with external auditors.

· Ensure that robust financial controls, risk management processes, and policies are in place and adhered to.

Time Commitment & Location

-  Approximately 10 days per year.

- Trustees are required to attend an induction at our office in Amersham.

- Trustees are expected to prepare for and attend all board meetings, held 3 times per year, generally in London during normal office hours, lasting approximately 3-4 hours.

- Trustee to chair the Finance and Investment sub-comittee.  These meetings take place virtually, also 3 times per year.

As a Trustee, you will share responsibility for the governance of the British Thyroid Foundation (BTF) and will fully understand the charity’s purpose as set out in its governing document. You will have strategic oversight of the planning for what the charity wants to achieve and be able to explain how our activities support our objectives. You will always act in the BTF’s best interest and ensure accountability within the charity. You will comply with the charity’s governing document, manage the charity’s resources responsibility and act with reasonable care and skill.

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. This is a vital volunteer role where you will oversee the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring long-term sustainability and supporting our mission to enrich the Dover community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the charity’s financial strategy and ensure sound financial governance

• Present clear and accurate financial reports to the Board

• Monitor cash flow, budgets, and investment decisions

• Ensure compliance with relevant financial legislation and Charity Commission requirements

Role Description: Treasurer

Position: Treasurer (Trustee)

Purpose of the Role

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Trustees, taking the lead in overseeing the financial health of the charity. They ensure proper financial management, reporting, and compliance with legal obligations, while supporting the Board to make sound financial decisions that enable the charity to achieve its mission in reptile welfare, conservation, and education.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

• Monitor the financial standing of the charity and ensure effective financial controls are in place.

• Oversee the preparation of budgets, accounts, and financial statements.

• Ensure the Board understands the charity’s financial position and the implications of decisions.

• Chair the finance sub-committee (if applicable) and report key matters to the Board.

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure compliance with charity law, company law (if applicable), and HMRC requirements.

• Oversee the preparation and submission of the annual report, accounts, and returns to the Charity Commission.

• Ensure financial policies and procedures are up to date and fit for purpose.

Support Fundraising & Sustainability

• Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategy, projects, and fundraising activities.

• Support the development of income streams and fundraising initiatives, ensuring they are financially viable.

• Monitor reserves and ensure a balance between short-term needs and long-term sustainability.

Working with Staff/Volunteers

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

Following a review of our Board, we are looking for people who are committed to developing our services to the population of Derby City, South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire, Tamworth and surrounding areas. Practical Considerations

Evening Board Trustee meetings are held approximately every 12 weeks. We also hold sub-committees every 12 weeks. The total time commitment for a Trustee is at least 1 day per month; induction and training are provided, as is support from an experienced and knowledgeable Trustee and staff team. Trustees are not paid, but expenses are covered. A DBS (criminal records check) will be required.

Citizens Advice Mid Mercia is a charity created to serve our local community of over 600,000 people across Derby City, South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire, Tamworth and surrounding areas.

We provide information, advice, support and training on a wide range of subjects such as debt, consumer services, energy, family, work, housing, health, digital skills and homelessness. About Citizens Advice Mid Mercia

It is an exciting time to join Citizens Advice Mid Mercia. We are a growing organisation that provides a range of services from quick advice, generalist advice, specialist advice, statutory and none statutory health services as well as peer support and training.  We provide services in a variety of outreach locations and are also based in Swadlincote, Derby City, Burton and Tamworth. We provide telephone and face to face advice services for people who want advice on a wide range of issues.

Roots for Change UK is looking for a committed charity shop manager to support the running of our community shop. The role is 3–5 days per week, 4 hours per day, covering either opening or closing the shop.

• Overseeing and supporting volunteers in the store.

Make a difference to the lives of rescue cats! We have a number of roles within our cat rescue based in York. 

Home visitors

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare & quality of life for the cats & kittens in our care.

Our home visit volunteers help us to assess each home environment and a families circumstances to ensure our cats are suitably matched to their new family. This is a vital step in our rehoming process to ensure our cats get the happy ending they deserve.​

You can dedicate as much or as little of your free time to this role- picking up outstanding home visits as and when you can.

This role can also be done remotely (from home) if necessary or preferred.

We rely on our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers to continue our work and would love for you to join us.

Fundraising

We are looking for cat loving people with a little free time and lots of ideas to join our fundraising team!
 

This role includes all aspects of fundraising including organising and taking charge of ideas/ events with the support of the wider team and helping out at events. 

We need your help to raise much needed funds to support the work that we do and help give cats and kittens in need a better future. 

Fostering

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare and quality of life of cats & kittens in our care.​

• Do you love cats but unable to commit to one of your own?

• Do you live approx 40 min radius of York?

• If you have pets, do you have a spare room to foster cats/ kittens in need?

• Do you have access to a vehicle?
   

We are looking for people to join our wonderful supportive team of foster carers! 

Caring for cats/ kittens in your home while they undergo rehabilitation and wait to be adopted doesn't cost you a penny. We provide full training & support along the way.

Transport Volunteers

We are always looking for transport volunteers to join our team. This role involves transporting animals, equipment and donations too and from various locations in and around the York area. We may also occasionally need help transporting cats and equipment from further afield. 

Hours: Variable – depending on individual circumstances and what people can do

Location: Variable – we are looking to extend our reach of peer support walks throughout Yorkshire

Main Tasks:

We appreciate any volunteering help that you can offer YBTC and want to make sure that our

volunteers have a positive experience with us. We pledge to support you as much as we can.

We want to ensure that volunteering with us does not feel too daunting, so the exact tasks might

vary depending on your circumstances. However, some typical tasks may include:

· Support our regular wellbeing/peer support walks

· Welcome participants and help them feel comfortable, fostering a friendly and inclusive atmosphere

· Encourage conversations among participants, offering a listening ear

· Be attentive to the well-being of all participants during the walk

· Offer information on YBTC services

· Attending occasional training sessions or volunteer meetings organised by YBTC

We are looking for people who are:

· Reliability – are punctual and committed to scheduled walks

· Collaborative mindset to work effectively with staff and volunteers

· Basic physical fitness to complete the walks, awareness of the needs of participants with

Background

Founded in 2003 and originally named Andrea’s Gift and later Brain Tumour Research and Support

Across Yorkshire, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) is Yorkshire and Humber’s leading

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumours are diagnosed in the region

every week.

Our Vision/Mission

To improve the lives of people impacted by a brain tumour in Yorkshire through local support and research.

We're organising a new support group in Hull and are looking for a group facilitator. Would you be interested in taking on this role?

The primary purpose of this flexible volunteering role is to support us as peer support group facilitators for support groups for those affected by brain tumours.

1. Hours: Variable – depending on individual circumstances and what people can do
2. Support Supervisor: Amy Gorse

We want to ensure that volunteering with us is not daunting, so the exact tasks might vary depending on your circumstances. However, some typical tasks may include: 

• Facilitating peer support group sessions

• Provide emotional support to attendees 

• Offer information on YBTC services

• Attending relevant training

• Maintain records of attendance and provide feedback to YBTC

• Liaise with the venue about group bookings 

We are looking for people who are: 

• Are compassionate and non-judgmental 

• Have personal or professional experience with brain tumours

• Confidence in facilitating group discussions

• Commitment to scheduled group sessions
