The primary purpose of this role is to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting young people in our local community who have had a more challenging start in life. This role will be paramount in enabling these young people to ‘discover who they are and what they can become’.

As a proactive member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role is also responsible for the development of an organisational culture that puts our Mission Statement, Purpose, Values and Christian Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility at the heart of all we do.

The role will focus on providing an outstanding environment for children to thrive in whilst ensuring that we are compliant with OFSTED and other regulatory bodies. You will also demonstrate expertise in Safeguarding and be able to lead the growth of the provision.

You will be responsible for creating and implementing the strategic direction, financial sustainability and leadership framework for the children’s residential service and to maintain the operational overview of service delivery and service improvements.

You will oversee and project manage the sourcing and registration of new homes and services, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maximise efficient use of resources and develop a sustainable business plan and business model which reflect the strategic objectives in relation to the children’s residential homes service.

You will work with the Head of Children’s Residential Services to develop a workforce development plan that promotes effective recruitment of a skilled workforce, enables existing staff to develop additional skills to support the service growth, enables internal promotion, and engages staff to sustain the longevity of employment.

You will be instrumental to the development and growth of our service and help realise the positive ambitions we have to make a difference every day to the lives of the children and young people in our care.

With extensive experience of children's residential care, you will have experience of the day to day operations and the strategic overview to drive growth.  You will be able to share your success where you have opened and expanded services and also be able to highlight to us you experience of sourcing and securing funding streams and all that entails.

You will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills; whether interacting with one of our young people, a member of staff or a member of our Board, you will act with professionalism and kindness; your ability to inspire and motivate will be a key asset and you will create a culture of team work and technical excellence within your service.

In line with our members of our Executive Leadership Team, we would look for you to a hold an MBA or equivalent business management qualification to be willing to undertake one with our support.

Chief Executive – full-time, permanent, London (flexible/hybrid)

The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) is seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next phase of its growth and development. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and energetic senior player to lead a small executive team, along with many highly dedicated and capable Institute members, as we embark on a number of key development projects which will continue to grow our charitable activities and influence in the food sector. The role is a key point of contact and ambassador for the Institute with many senior and influential stakeholders within the food sector and governments.

We are looking for a strong strategic and conceptual thinker, experienced in business and financial management, who can communicate with and influence people at all levels. The role leads a small team and will have significant hands-on involvement in day to day operational matters.

The individual will have attained a BSc or equivalent level, and have demonstrable experience in leadership and people management. They will have a broad understanding of the food (or associated) sector (and preferably experience working in the sector). Ideally, the individual will already have experience managing or running a charity, and so will have a practical understanding of charity governance best practice. 

With multiple activities from publishing through to professional recognition and from scientific and technical events and communication through to supporting the next generation of talent, the Institute is looking for a leader who can work creatively and yet in a focussed way to ensure all these activities are progressed.

Ideally, they will have previously worked for a professional membership body and are likely to have experience in the food sector.

About the role:

• Full-time, permanent. London-based (Hammersmith) with flexible working – the individual will be required to attend regular physical meetings, often in London, but with some other meetings in the UK. This role may also include some international travel. Salary: On application. No agencies.

Essential criteria:

• Degree-level education required; professional qualification (e.g., MBA, CIPD, CCAB) preferred.

Key responsibilities 

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for shaping and driving the work of the organisation, in line with its mission, vision, and strategic plan. 

The Executive Director has responsibility for the effective management and financial sustainability of the organisation; for leading the team and developing HRI’s strategic vision and operational plans; for representing the organisation to external stakeholders and the media; and for championing an inclusive and collaborative culture that foregrounds racial justice and diversity. The Executive Director must also fulfil all the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial obligations of the role. 

The Executive Director’s key responsibilities are:

Organisational leadership and governance 

• Shape, drive and champion the organisation's vision, strategy and big picture thinking 

• Maintain HRI’s role and reputation as a leading international influencer and convenor in the field of harm reduction and human rights

• Provide strong, clear and proactive leadership on racial justice and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

• Champion an inclusive, collaborative, high performance culture that attracts, retains and motivates a diverse, expert staff team

• Build and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, including NGOs, networks of people who use drugs, donors, UN agencies, national governments, and opinion formers.

• Represent and promote HRI at its own and other conferences and networking events, United Nations fora, donor meetings, key civil society initiatives, and in the media.

• Facilitate the Board of Trustees’ active engagement in scrutiny, strategic planning, and resourcing and financial management

• Keep the Board fully informed of the overall health and performance of the organisation, and all relevant factors influencing this

• Ensure the smooth operation of Board meetings and maintain a strong, balanced Board, with effective succession planning

Financial Management and Fundraising

• Develop a realistic annual budget and operational plan for approval by the Board and prepare budget revisions as needed 

• Ensure provision of regular financial management, monitoring and reporting to the Board

• Provide financial risk assessment reports and mitigation strategies to the Board in a timely fashion 

• Ensure the financial sustainability of HRI and its capacity to achieve its strategic objectives

• Devise and implement fundraising strategies and plans to ensure that the organisation can meet its operational budgetary needs 

• Identify and engage with fundraising prospects and sources, and cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders

Operational and Management

• Oversee all aspects of programme planning development and evaluation

• Ensure that all programme components are strategically coordinated and contribute to overall organisational objectives

• Oversee further development of a communications strategy that positions HRI effectively, protects its reputation, and identifies opportunities to promote its key messages and activities

• Recruit and manage staff, and ensure appropriate organisational structures with clear roles and responsibilities 

• Ensure regular performance evaluations, feedback loops, and training and professional development and education for all staff

• Manage administrative matters relating to staff, including legal and health and safety requirements, and required policies and processes 

• Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements

• Implement appropriate policies, including internal controls and accounting standards and procedures

Salary: £80,000-£90,000

Location:

Our offices are in Toynbee Hall, East London, but we welcome applicants from across the UK who do not wish to relocate. You should be willing to travel to our London office for team and project meetings up to six times per year. Project related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Hours:

Four or five days a week

Contract:

Initially, a twelve-month fixed term contract with a view to permanent and possible progression to Chief Operating Officer. Job-share applications considered.

About the role

The Director of Finance and Corporate Resources holds a key role in our organisation and is core to the senior management team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources is responsible for finance, HR, facilities, and governance.

Managing a team of four (comprising a Financial Controller, Finance Services and Business Support Manager, HR Manager, and an Administrator) they are responsible for all ‘back office’ operations, providing the supporting infrastructure to ensure quality delivery of our work and mission.

You will work closely with the Chief Executive to lead the organisation through operational change. Investing in the right technological and finance infrastructure for The Young Foundation is overdue, and we are looking for a self-starting candidate with proven experience in digital transformation and change to increase efficiency, knowledge management, and reporting of vital management information. The assessment of business needs and analysis of possible solutions has been undertaken and the successful execution of this transformation is a key deliverable in the first 12 months of the role.

We are a charity earning our income through commissions, grant funding, and by responding to tenders. As such, we need to think and act as a consultancy, supported by our Finance team. We are looking for a hands-on, motivated individual with a solid background in consultancy and charity finance and digital transformation.

The British Asian Trust is one of the most exciting and innovative charities working in South Asia. They were founded in 2007 by His Majesty King Charles III and a group of British Asian business leaders to tackle widespread poverty, inequality and injustice in South Asia. In recent years they have experienced substantial growth, with income increasing from £1m to £22m.

An estimated 172 million children in India are considered ‘at-risk’ from various forms of harm and exploitation. Children are made vulnerable by a complex network of interconnecting factors such as high levels of poverty, gender inequality, unsafe migration, cultural norms and poor implementation of schemes and laws. The Child Opportunity Fund’s goal is to create more safe spaces to ensure that millions of children can live their lives to the fullest potential. To achieve this, they are aiming to raise $25m which will be matched by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, totalling a $50m fund.

We are looking for an exceptional philanthropic fundraising leader, with experience of leading an appeal and first-hand programme management skills, to undertake a one year maternity cover as the Interim Head of Child Opportunity Appeal. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing the appeal, working collaboratively with the team to reach their significant fundraising targets across HNWIs, trusts, institutional funders and corporate partners.

About the role

As Interim Head of Child Opportunity Appeal, you will:

• accelerate and coordinate fundraising for the Child Opportunity Appeal across a diversified range of high value income streams in the UK, India, Dubai and globally;
• drive and implement the fundraising strategy, ensuring KPIs are monitored and met;
• coordinate internal working groups as well as external senior volunteers to ensure a consistent and aligned approach to fundraising and new donor engagement;
• produce effective prospect research and robust donor pipelines to secure major donations at the 6 and 7-figure level from HNWIs, corporates, trusts, foundations and institutional funders;
• ensure all donors and partners receive first-class stewardship and relationship management, working closely with in-country, programmes and communications colleagues to produce compelling proposals, reports and updates;
• support the CEO to manage the partnership with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation;
• develop and deliver strong engagement opportunities and leverage cultivation event and project visit opportunities;
• contribute to financial planning and reporting, and develop processes and systems for effective fundraising and stewardship.

About you

Ideal skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience of operating in a senior philanthropic leadership role with a strategic mindset and high levels of ambition
• Exceptional project/programme management skills
• Experience of running a significant philanthropic appeal/campaign, or playing a senior role in the delivery of a large project in a complex organisation
• Experience of implementing a fundraising strategy and successfully meeting KPIs and targets
• Strong track record in securing high value gifts from warm and cold donors and partners, including demonstrable ability to independently manage the fundraising process from research/identification to closing the ask
• Exceptional communication and networking skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders of all levels (SMT, Trustees, senior volunteers, donors, partners and colleagues)
• Strong team leadership skills with a supportive and motivating approach to rally colleagues across the organisation to deliver on the Appeal
• Ability to be both strategic and operational
• Ambitious, a natural-analyser, trustworthy, calm and proactive
