Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsible for:

• Financial oversight and leadership.
• Providing robust financial information to inform and improve operational management and decision making to further the charities’ objectives.
• Ensuring financial sustainability of the charity and facilitate growth and development to further charitable aims.
• Ensuring appropriate financial probity and controls in place.
• Financial planning including budgeting and forecasting.
• Financial reporting including monthly management accounts so that Directors and Trustees understand the financial health of the organisation.

• Act as Company Secretary supporting trustees to ensure all legal and statutory compliance with Charitable Articles and Charity Commission requirements.
• Oversight and continuous improvement of IT (and data) systems (with support from out-sourced IT support) to ensure efficient and effective workflow across the organisation.
• As business manager, lead on risk management and KPI dashboard reporting to trustees and Finance Sub Committee.

• Qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA/ACCA) (essential)

As our Finance Manager you will be at the heart of the charity’s operations and play a vital role in helping us embark on a new 3-year strategy. Working closely with the Director of Operations and CEO your role and expertise will be pivotal in driving excellence and integrity in financial management and strategic financial decisions. 

Your responsibilities will span the entire financial lifecycle, from budgeting and forecasting to meticulous reporting and process optimisation, you will also lead on management reporting, cashflow planning and the delivery of WellChild’s audit, Annual Report & Accounts.

You will have a detailed knowledge of accounting principles (ideally from within the charity sector), strong analytical skills; be able to demonstrate both operational and strategic thinking and have a proficiency in accounting alongside a relevant finance qualification; (ACA, ACCA, ACMA).

You will also need to have advanced excel skills, experience of charity accounts, SORP and charity VAT and be able to plan, prioritise and organise your work with impeccable attention to detail.

Fundraising Officer – Grants and Events

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

About You

You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. We are an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.

At Mosaic - Supporting Bereaved Children, we are clear that our mission is to enable children and young people who have lost someone very close to them to come to terms with their grief in a positive and caring way.  Our work transforms young lives and we'd like you to be part of this.

Developing our social media content with the team, thinking about how young people use it and producing metrics on this.  Work with our young people, volunteers and others to create fantastic video content to show our impact.

Leading campaigns for Mosaic, driving impactful communication and building partnerships with the media and other organisations across Dorset to support our mission.

Be part of the team effort to create an overall five-year strategy for Mosaic as we grow, thinking about how we demonstrate our impact and the great relationship we have with schools and charity bodies across the county.

Previous experience of working in communications, preferably with some marketing experience.

Job Description: Finance Director (Part Time)

Responsible for: All Financial matters of the National Energy Foundation (NEF)

Summary

Salary: £50-55k

NEF Summary:

At the National Energy Foundation, our team is forward thinking in its approach to home energy and uses its influence and projects to make meaningful change. Our primary focus is delivering projects aimed at alleviating fuel poverty and helping residents to feel warmer, healthier and more comfortable in their homes whilst also helping them cut the cost of their fuel bills. In the next five years, we will seek to help more than 170,000 households out of fuel poverty. Beyond this, we seek to encourage homeowners to make improvements to their homes to increase energy efficiency. To enable this, we deliver several projects aimed at encouraging retrofit of energy efficient heating systems into UK homes.

Job Role

The Finance Director will work with the CEO and the Finance team to collaboratively drive the development and delivery of the NEF’s strategic plans and budgets. The Finance Director will be a member of the NEF’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and will attend the quarterly Trustee Meetings.

Not only will the Finance Director take accountability for the day-to-day transaction processing, ably supported by an effective Finance Team of 3 people, they will take the lead on the budgeting, planning and analysis processes, developing a range of processes and reports to enable effective decision making.

The Finance Director will be the key contact for and work with the auditors, HMRC and other professional advisors and regulatory bodies to ensure that the organisation remains compliant and fulfils its legal responsibilities.

Management

o Manage the Finance function, providing leadership and support to the Finance Manager and their team of 2 analysts to ensure they are all able to carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.

o Provide strategic financial guidance to ensure that the NEF meets all its objectives.

o Contribute to the company’s overall business objectives and guide on financial strategy.

o Act as support and “Critical Friend” to the CEO, deputising for them where required.

Audit, Accounting & Reporting

o Take accountability for the production of timely and accurate financial reports, meeting the deadlines set by the CEO and the Trustees.

o Take accountability for all transaction processing including payroll, invoicing customers, and supplier invoice payments.

o Continually develop the reporting output to ensure that it meets the ever-changing requirements of the NEF and its Trustees.

o Be accountable for all finance systems, making recommendations for their development and implementing changes as necessary.

About the Role

Our team currently consists of 8 dedicated staff members and is led by our CEO, Anne Bishop. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a new role for BAUS. It will be a key part of our Senior Leadership Team, playing a vital part in the development and implementation of our strategy and deputising for the Chief Executive.

The COO role provides the essential financial stability and operational facilities to enable future growth through leadership and management of finance, maintaining and developing our IT infrastructure, and ensuring effective governance and regulatory compliance.
