Job description

This is an exciting time to be joining us as we seek to expand our psychotherapy provision within the service.   We are looking for a fully qualified clinician who is able to work with adults experiencing high levels of distress, and often in highly charged situations, while maintaining the ability to think and support those around them.  In return, you’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome into an organisation where your aptitude for formulation, reflection, and creativity can be utilised to their full potential.  Your skills will be highly regarded, and you will be offered excellent continuous professional development opportunities.

About us:

We are a dynamic and creative organisation.  We work with young people and adults experiencing severe emotional distress, many of whom have diagnoses of psychosis or personality disorder, and often with drug and/or alcohol dependency.  Our model is based on housing, community, and psychotherapy, and influenced by Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE’s), Therapeutic Communities, recovery, and neuro-psychodynamic theory.

The Community Psychotherapist/Psychologist is the clinical lead for the service, and will work alongside the Service Manager to develop, maintain and lead a psychologically informed environment to the highest clinical standards.  This is a busy, varied, and ultimately rewarding position.  Some of the daily activities as Community Psychologist/Psychotherapist include (but are not limited to);

  • facilitating formal reflective practice groups
  • providing one-to-one psychodynamic psychotherapy sessions for residents
  • facilitating case formulation meetings with staff and residents
  • ensuring clinical practice is centred on a formulation-based approach and in line with the CHT model
  • offering advice and consultation to staff members
  • ensuring clinical outcomes measures are collated
  • assessing potential new residents into the community.

About you:

We are looking for a fully qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist/Integrative Psychotherapist or Counselling Psychologist with a strong emphasis on psychodynamic thinking, or a Clinical Psychologist with additional psychodynamic or psychoanalytic training.

As a Psychotherapist, you will hold registration with either the UKCP or the BPC, or be accredited by the BACP.  As a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, you will hold BPS Chartered status.

Working as the Community Psychologist/Psychotherapist, you will be accustomed to working with high levels of distress.  You do not necessarily need to have experience of working in a residential setting, but you do need to be a reflective, thoughtful and resilient clinician, who is able to adapt from one task to another, and at times adjust to quickly changing priorities.

Ideally, we are looking for a full-time psychotherapist/psychologist to join us, but part-time working of four days a week will be considered for the right candidate.  If you think this role may be for you, then please see the job description and person specification attached with this advertisement.
