Reporting to the Director of Design and Technology, you'll manage a team of Project Managers whilst working closely with senior leadership to oversee project delivery, financial planning, organisational systems and growth.

Act Build Change is a transformative organising school that makes community organising and collective care methods accessible to everyone who wants to end injustice.

Since 2019, we've supported over 150 collectives and organisations across the UK and Ireland, working with those with disabilities, migrants and refugees, young people, carers, working class communities, LGBTQ+ collectives, those living in poverty and the intersections across those identities.

What we offer

Salary and benefits

• £49,500-£62,000 salary, depending on experience.

• Permanent contract with option for 4 or 5 days per week (salary and benefits will be pro-rated).

The Human Resources Division supports all people management activities across the school and is committed to delivering high-quality and customer-focused services. Reporting to the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations, this post is responsible for maintaining existing HR policies and contributing to the development of new policy in consultation with a wide range of HR colleagues and stakeholders across the School.
This role also supports the development and implementation of key employee engagement and wellbeing projects. Policy Development:

• To stay informed of new legislative developments and ensure that appropriate revisions to HR policy are made accordingly, as well as working with the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations to ensure that the wider HR Division is aware of the changes.
• To undertake appropriate policy benchmarking across the sector and with other leading organisations (both public and private).
• To support in ensuring that the university has a set of up-to-date and appropriate HR / employment policies and that these are accessible to staff and line managers, maintaining a regular programme of monitoring, review and improvement.
• To contribute to the development of discussion papers, with appropriate recommendations, for consideration by the HR Management Board, School Management Committee (SMC) and trade unions.
• To effectively engage and consult with appropriate representatives of the staff community in the development of HR/employment policies.
• To work collaboratively with other HR colleagues (e.g. HR Partners, Organisational Learning) to develop effective communication strategies to ensure that LSE policies are well communicated and widely understood.

Employee Engagement Projects

• To co-ordinate (i.e. arranging meetings, formulating the agenda, taking minutes and monitoring and following up on resulting actions) and / or participate in a number of internal working groups and consultative forums with trade union members, HR colleagues and managers around the school.
• To support ongoing activities relating to staff engagement and wellbeing, e.g. related projects, events and initiatives.
• To produce draft reports and initial analyses to support the development of new projects and initiatives.
• To support the Director, HR Policy and Employee Relations in monitoring the progress of both individual projects and progress against over-arching action plans, e.g. the School's Gender Pay Gap report.
• To take on the role of Data Lead for the HR Policy Team, supporting with developing the reporting and analytics roadmap, refining the data model to enable better use of available data and providing feedback on data quality issues.To liaise with the Information and Systems team, and other relevant colleagues as required, to produce timely and accurate management information to support project and development work within the team.
• To plan, organise and communicate the school's annual flu vaccination clinics, liaising with external and internal stakeholders, to ensure that this runs effectively.
• To complete annual benchmarking reports, developing and implementing action plans based on feedback.

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience of working in a large HR department supporting a complex and diverse organisation
• Can demonstrate a sound knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR good practice, with experience of advising colleagues and managers on HR policy and procedure
• Experience of developing or contributing to HR policies across a range of topics
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Experience of servicing committees and/or organising events
• Experience of producing accurate minutes and/or meeting notes
• Ability to communicate in a diplomatic, tactful and courteous manner with a wide variety of people, at all levels, in the most appropriate format
• Excellent written skills i.e. ability to produce clear and professional policy, procedure and guidance documents

About the role

The DRC Fieldwork Coordinator role sits within RFUK’s largest Programmes team: Land & Livelihoods. A central aspect of the L&L team’s work is supporting communities to establish and manage community forests as well as working at the national and policy levels to achieve wider impact. This role will be pivotal to a new phase of community forest expansion in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is being supported by the Rainforest Trust. In partnership with five local organisations, the role will contribute to the objective of expanding community forests in two highly biodiverse landscapes: the periphery of the Maïko National Park in North Kivu province and the area surrounding the Salonga National Park in Maï Ndombe province. 

The ideal candidate will bring at least 3 years’ experience of project management support in a charity or international development context, as well as 3 years’ of experience in supporting community land use planning and livelihoods initiatives in rural contexts. We are seeking someone who has a firm grasp on forest governance and human rights, is familiar with the requirements of institutional donors, and is eager to play a key role in a new phase of community forest expansion.

The Programme Manager at Western Forest will oversee the delivery of multiple projects within the woodland creation and restoration programme, working closely with Project Managers/leads and the Woodland and Nature Recovery Manager. This role will ensure that all programmes are delivered on time, within scope, and in alignment with the funding requirements and objectives. The Programme Manager will be responsible for monitoring progress, managing reporting to key stakeholders such as Defra and National Forest Company (NFC), and ensuring the quality of the projects. Additionally, the role will involve overseeing GIS/data management, coordinating the efforts of multidisciplinary teams, and serving as the primary contact for Defra and other funding bodies.

A new environmental charity in East Suffolk is being established with a bold, long-term mission: to help make the region the most ecologically diverse and environmentally resilient area in England.

With a planned investment of £78 million over the next 70+ years, the charity will support transformative environmental action—enhancing biodiversity, restoring landscapes, and enabling communities to connect with and care for the natural world.

Background

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. A UK registered charity, we work in collaboration with Palestinian communities and trusted local partners, and coordinate with key stakeholders and relevant clusters, to meet a wide range of health and social needs, from providing vital medical aid in emergencies, to supporting the development of better health services for the long term. We also uplift the voices of Palestinians, and campaign for an end to the barriers to health and dignity that come from living through occupation, displacement, discrimination and conflict.

Purpose of role

MAP is in a period of growth and rapid development, and as such, the incoming Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for the financial strategy and management of MAP and for the leadership of operational areas to help deliver the organisation’s mission and strategic goals. The COO provides support to the CEO in areas of governance, legal and risk management and may deputise for the CEO as required.

Responsibilities

Strategy, vision and leadership

• Be accountable to the CEO and Board in the areas of finance, technology, risk and compliance, supply chain and logistics, and safety and security.
• Advise the CEO and SMT on financial planning, legal, governance and related policy matters.
• Work closely with SMT colleagues to ensure that appropriate processes and systems are in place across the organisation, including delivery against KPIs.
• Serve as the management liaison to the Finance & Operations Committee, Audit Risk & Governance Committee and, where required, to the Board of Trustees; effectively communicate and present critical financial and operational matters at governance meetings.
• Ensure robust, secure and scalable IT systems and infrastructure. Lead on information governance & data protection and identify and drive opportunities for digital transformation.
• Lead on the development of MAP’s strategic goals and objectives in all areas of responsibility and contribute to the development of other goals as well as the overall management of the organisation.
• Work with direct reports to ensure the delivery of an effective strategy in all areas of responsibility.
• Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues.
• Lead cross-organisational projects in line with organisational strategy and direction.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organisation at all levels, adopting and encouraging a collaborative working approach.

Operations

• Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, standards, and procedures.
• Ensure annual audits, budgets, and reports in all areas of operations are produced in an accurate and timely manner for SMT, the Board, and Board sub-committees.
• Ensure strong financial controls, risk management and regulatory compliance, including with UK Charity Commission standards, donor requirements and legal and regulatory requirements in countries and territories of operation.
• Build a culture of continuous improvement in operations and ensure appropriate and timely action to address operational risks when they arise.
• Provide analytical support to the CEO and SMT including development of internal management reporting capabilities.

Profile

Person specification

• Recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ACA) or post-graduate business degree mandatory.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior management role ideally with in-house financial management experience gained in a high-growth organisation.
• Experience either as an employee or board member of a non-profit organisation; must be familiar with non-profit finance and accounting regulations.
• Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organisational change and development within a growing organisation.
• Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Bring strong mentoring and coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise.
• Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask.
• Superior management skills: the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
• Self-reliant and results-oriented, with good problem-solving skills.
• Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
