Role and Responsibilities

Housing and Service Delivery

• Provide strong and effective support to residents in Acorn House that focuses on their strengths and goals, and is delivered in a personalised way and within a framework of active engagement and co-production

• Developing and reviewing support plans that reflect the interests and aspirations of residents

• Induct new residents in line with the service’s policies and procedures and support them to continue in their journey towards recovery from addiction

• Carry out assessments of those referred to Acorn House, and induct new residents

• Ensure the fundamental needs of residents are met including good quality accommodation and facilities, healthy food, advice and guidance around benefits, and alcohol and drug testing (to help maintain an abstinent environment)

• Deal with the immediate support needs of residents as appropriate, providing crisis intervention where necessary

• Support residents in addressing physical and mental health issues, including liaison with primary and secondary health teams

• Ensure residents are supported through court or welfare rulings (if necessary)

• Ensure effective and compliant administration of resident data using a bespoke Salesforce- based platform (In-Form)

• Ensure Housing Benefit and Services Charges are collected and managed effectively 

• Be flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the service, ensuring high quality support is provided

• Ensure each resident’s support plan is written, monitored and reviewed as appropriate to reflect their changing needs and development

• Ensure residents progress and engage with other SCT programmes (when required)

Special Conditions

• This post requires the holder to work varying shifts between 08.00 am and 8.00 pm and participation in the call rota system (for which an additional allowance is paid)

• The post-holder is required to work weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays when required

Role overview

City of Trees is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Engagement Officer to develop and manage volunteer experience and consultation at City of Trees’ new tree nursery. The nursery is the first stage of the development of this new City of Trees site and future National Urban Forestry Centre.

This is a brand-new post to help develop an outreach programme and activity plan to engage the local community and stakeholders to help shape this ambitious and exciting project in its development stage. We want to engage a wide range of audiences by providing clear pathways for people to get involved in this exciting next step for City of Trees.

The postholder will work closely with the Nursery Manager and Engagement Coordinator (and wider team) to develop a programme of volunteer and learner activity for the site, and contributing to City of Trees’ engagement and green skills programmes.

The postholder will be experienced in outreach and community engagement to help identify different groups and individuals to be involved in this exciting new development right from the start. We are seeking someone who is experienced in community consultation principles and techniques to help develop an activity plan during this development stage. While some horticultural growing experience is desirable, it is not necessary - training on this will be given to the appointed candidate.

Some key duties and responsibilities include:

Development

• Working alongside the Nursery Manager and the Engagement team, to develop and implement an innovative activity plan for the site to enthuse and inspire volunteers and learners.
• Delivering pilot community engagement activity recruit a base of core volunteers.
• Community and stakeholder consultation and engagement to gather support and steer the development of the project.
• Stakeholder mapping and outreach both at the local and wider level to identify and connect with local residents, groups, education providers and organisations.
• Utilising connections in both the immediate local and wider Greater Manchester area to identify potential volunteers and build partnerships.
• Working with the City of Trees Engagement Coordinator to strategically plan nursery activity as part of the organisation’s wider Citizen Forester volunteering and green skills strategy.

Delivery

• Producing work schedules and assign duties to staff, volunteers and learners.
• Assisting the Nursery Manager in providing training to colleagues, volunteers and learners on all aspects of the nursery site.
• Complying with the site’s strict health and safety procedures, including adherence to biosecurity processes at the nursery.
• Recording impacts of volunteer activity and collecting data to support the development of the site, in line with GDPR guidelines.
• Supporting on other Citizen Forester events (such as tree planting and woodland management), when required.
• Working alongside the communications team to capture appropriate content and tell the story of the development of the site.
• To represent and uphold the City of Trees brand and reputation while at
• events or on site.
• To document and record evidence from events in line with funding requirements, complete essential administrative duties related to engagement events and keep record of project statistics.

The Purpose of the Role
IRC’s External Relations (ER) department brings together Fundraising, Communications and Policy & Advocacy functions. With the aim to raise money, awareness and influence for crisis-affected populations worldwide, the department combines knowledge and expertise across multiple national markets.  
 
The IRC fundraising teams are comprised of colleagues and teams working in the USA, UK, Germany, Sweden and Korea as well as emerging markets delivering direct marketing, content, account management, philanthropy, board liaison, corporate as well as trust and foundation partnerships to support IRC’s national fundraising strategies. 
 
The IRC’s private fundraising capability in the UK has grown significantly over the past five years. Ambitious growth plans are in place to deliver increasing income from the private sector as part of an exciting global External Relations strategy.  
 
The Director of UK Mass Markets is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Mass Markets team in the UK and for securing long-term sustainable income for the IRC through individual donor acquisition, retention and supporter care. You will lead and develop a high-performing team by growing mass marketing audiences and income, developing exciting and targeted campaigns, identifying opportunities for product, channel and audience diversification, and championing UX and a supporter centric fundraising model. The Director will also serve as a key partner to the UK Executive Director as they facilitate cross-team collaboration, accountability and success among all private fundraising teams in the UK (Philanthropy, Global Corporate Partnerships, Foundations & Trusts and Mass Markets). The Director will play a leadership role in IRC UK more widely as a member of the UK Senior Management Team (UKSMT). The UKSMT is collectively responsible for achieving the cross-functional goals of IRC UK’s strategy and actively fostering an inclusive workplace at IRC UK.
 
This role is responsible for:  
I.  Securing significant and sustainable funding in the UK for IRC’s work 
II.  Leading strategic activities that support IRC’s mass market fundraising presence including campaigns for the End-of-Year, World Refugee Day and emergencies

Scope and Authority 
This position has responsibility for delivering the UK Mass Market team strategy and targets and Supporter Care within the overarching Global Mass Markets strategy and UK Strategic Plan. 

Responsibility for Resources:
This post will have responsibility for three direct reports (1x Senior Acquisition Marketing Manager, 1 x Retention Marketing Manager, 1 x Donor Services Assistant) and a substantial expenditure budget. The role is part of the global Mass Markets team and is matrix managed by the Executive Director in the UK and the Global Vice President of Mass Markets.

Key Accountabilities

·  Aligned to the overall Global External Relations Strategy, develop, implement, monitor and report on IRC UK’s fundraising and supporter engagement strategy. 
·  Lead fundraising campaigns (acquisition, retention, mid-level) that deliver unrestricted income to enable IRC’s work. Channels include e-mail, direct mail, inserts, Facebook advertising, new forms of social media, and adwords, as well as telemarketing etc.
·  Develop a supporter engagement programme that focusses on developing and deepening long-term relationships and drives retention rates.
·  Develop and deliver an innovation programme, ensuring fundraising products and activity are at the forefront of the UK sector and allow IRC to cut through to new audiences.
·  Deliver outstanding supporter services, ensuring supporter interactions are dealt with professionally and appropriately.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

·  Driven, motivated and proactive with a solutions-based attitude and resilient in the face of setbacks. 
·  Proven ability to manage, meet and monitor fundraising budgets and Key Performance Indicators. 
·  Excellent organisational skills, especially the ability to manage a complex, varied and substantial workload.

·  Excellent verbal and written English and the ability to produce well designed and high-quality proposals and reports.
·  Institute of Fundraising, Cass or comparable qualifications would be an advantage.  

Experience:
·  Extensive experience of individual giving (or mass marketing) and digital fundraising and ideally, mid value and legacy giving, within a large or medium global charity, including a proven track record of both acquisition and retention.**  
·  Launching new channels and products with success. 
·  Comprehensive understanding and experience of audience and donor segmentation, analytical modelling such as LTV and use of insights to drive strategy and performance.** 
·  Experience and understanding of creative process and relationship with brand identity through different channels and audiences.

What you'll do:

• Oversee all induction and mandatory training, ensuring it meets organisational requirements

This is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team at the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre) as our new Deputy Director, Research and Evaluation. This is a key leadership role within the CSA Centre, central to our ambition to raise awareness of the true scale and nature of sexual abuse and to drive evidence-informed improvements in policy and practice.

About the role:

The CSA Centre aims to inform and improve policy and practice at local and national levels by identifying, generating and sharing high quality evidence on the current scale and nature of child sexual abuse and what works to prevent and tackle it, and our extensive research, evaluation and monitoring activity is central to that mission.

Leading our highly skilled and experienced research and evaluation team, you will play a key role in developing and overseeing the CSA Centre's research and evaluation plans over the immediate and longer term, helping us to ensure that our publications, practice resources and policy and communications activity are robust, evidence-informed and accessible to a wide audience, driving real change in the response to child sexual abuse across England and Wales.

As a member of the CSA Centre's Senior Management Team, you will have a leadership role across our multi-agency, multi-disciplinary team, enabling you to draw on expertise from a wide range of different professional backgrounds. You will lead our strategic engagement with research and evaluation leads from across Government departments and key stakeholder groups, and contribute to our wider influencing activity with senior leaders at local, regional and national level.

We are looking for an experienced manager and leader with strong skills and significant experience of designing, planning and overseeing research projects and programmes of monitoring and evaluation on child sexual abuse, or closely related issues, using a wide range of methodologies. You will have demonstrable expertise in qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation, an in-depth knowledge of the current research landscape in relation to child sexual abuse, and experience of translating organisational objectives into a strategic and cohesive research and evaluation plan.

As Deputy Director, Research and Evaluation, you will play a role tackling child sexual abuse alongside the work of our colleagues across practice, policy, communications and training. This is important work - the CSA Centre conservatively estimates that one in ten children will experience some form of child sexual abuse before age of 16, and our ambitious programme seeks to improve the knowledge, skills and confidence of professionals (social workers, teachers, social workers, nurses etc.) in identifying and responding to child sexual abuse. We have already made great progress, but there is much more to be done – and your leadership is essential to help us do it!

CSA Centre roles are currently funded until 31 March 2027, in line with our current grant funding arrangements. This will be reviewed in late 2026, as future funding for the CSA Centre from 2027/28 onwards is confirmed.

About us

We are the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre). Our aim is to reduce the impact of child sexual abuse through improved prevention and better response. To tackle child sexual abuse we must better understand its causes, scope, scale and impact.

Established since 2017, we are a multi-disciplinary team that is funded by the Home Office, hosted by Barnardo's and we work closely with key partners from academic institutions, local authorities, health, education, police and the voluntary sector. SIG is a not-for-profit organisation providing thousands of people with good-quality support and care in residential, drop-in centres, community floating support settings, probation settings, and hospitals. We do so across London, Brighton, Bedfordshire, Luton, Kent and Liverpool. Our goal is to transform lives through empowering change.
