About this role:
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Communications, the Policy and Communications Coordinator will support SIB’s track record of sector, government and media engagement, notably the high standard of publication set through its media partnerships with Tortoise and the Financial Times, its contributions to the policy landscape in the social sector, and its in-house data analysis and insight generation. This new post will contribute to SIB’s ongoing communications and public policy work and its reach and influence, building on a growing base of expertise across SIB’s three strategic priority areas: Green Transition, Infrastructure and Services.
Key responsibilities
1. Support the Head of Policy and Communications to deliver the Policy and Communications strategy for SIB.
2. Making use of media and parliamentary tracking software keep abreast of SIB’s strategic policy areas, sharing accessible updates and digests of relevant legislation and central and local government programming and media coverage.
3. Attend / watch online relevant parliamentary committees, All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) and Commons and Lords sessions, capturing relevant outcomes and identifying MPs and Lords that SIB should seek to work with / influence.
4. Support the Head of Policy and Communications to identify a key parliamentary contacts list. Create tailored communications for these key contacts which share relevant statistics and case studies from SIB’s portfolio, alongside policy influencing lines. This will include drafting questions and briefings where relevant, and ensuring that regular contact is maintained.
5. Support the drafting of consultation responses and press releases using SIB’s core messaging, reporting, research and data.
6. Support SIB’s annual party conference attendance with coordination and administration in advance and in person.
7. Support the Head of Policy and Communications with attendance at influencing meetings and webinars with, for example, the Association of Decentralised Energy, Community Energy England, Locality, Better Society Capital, the Access Foundation and others.
8. Draft internal and external copy for newsletters and the SIB intranet and website.
9. Monitor the press email address and support correspondence with journalists on reactive and proactive stories.
10. Attend and provide oversight to the Social Investment Forum, as part of SIB’s secretariat and hosting.
11. Write, edit and produce engaging and relevant content at pace for web, social media and e-newsletters, as well as earned and paid channels.
12. Management of external suppliers of communications and policy activities, including agencies, designers, consultants and think tanks.
13. Work with the Marketing Manager, Marketing and Events Coordinator, Business Development Manager and wider team to deliver successful external events with customers, stakeholders and partners including attendance at Party Conferences.

As our Challenge Events Manager, you'll be the driving force behind our exciting challenge events portfolio.You'll work on bespoke corporate team-building challenges, high-energy industry networking events like the Hike Bike Paddle for the sports and outdoor sector and the Housebuilders Challenge, and our popular open events like the Wiltshire 3 Peaks Challenge and the Somerset Cycle.
Challenge events not only enable people to raise amazing sums for the charity, but are also a fantastic way to engage supporters with our work, giving them the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, embrace the outdoors and achieve things they never thought possible - similar to our work with the young people on our programmes.
The Challenge Events Manager role is a varied position which would be perfect for somebody who has event management experience. You will be responsible for the full event cycle, from the initial planning, participant recruitment and stewardship to on the day event delivery and post event follow ups. You will be somebody who can spot opportunities, take on a project and run with it. You’ll be an excellent communicator, happy to pick up the phone to chat to event participants, deliver pre-event webinars or create engaging participant emails. You’re self-motivated, well organised, able to multi-task, a strong administrator, a fantastic team player, have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy being outdoors. You should also have some fundraising experience, ideally in a paid capacity but in a voluntary capacity would also be considered.
You'll work closely with the Corporate Partnership Manager, who is highly experienced in delivering our challenge events, but needs time to develop new corporate partnerships which is why we have created this new role. You'll also line-manage our Events Fundraising Officer who plays a key support role on the events. You must live in or near the South West as there will be a semi-regular requirement to attend in person staff meetings, visit programmes and join event planning sessions.
About You
You’re a people-person, self-motivated and highly organised. You are as comfortable managing a budget and a CRM database as you are standing on a mountain side in your waterproofs! You’ll have:

We're looking for a highly organised and creative Communications Officer to join our busy Communications Department. If you're passionate about clear, compelling communication and want your work to make a real difference across our membership, this could be the role for you. The communications team help champion the value of our members, influence national debate, and support our members. As part of our Creative, Publishing and Production team, you'll help deliver high-quality publications, campaigns and communications seen by nurses, policymakers and the wider public. Your work will support our mission to improve nursing practice, shape health policy, and represent more than half a million health professionals.
As our Communications Officer, you will:
- Be the engine behind our publications and materials.
- Coordinate production workflows across planning, writing, design, print and distribution.
- Maintain project files and schedules, keeping our processes running smoothly.
- Keep our publication's database up to date, summarising new materials and monitoring stock levels.
- Support consistent, high-quality communication
- Proofread and edit copy, ensuring accuracy, clarity and adherence to writing standards.
- Check and protect the visual identity across a range of channels, materials and communications
- Write copy for events, campaigns and marketing materials, working with designers to produce print- and web-ready outputs.
- Help bring our stories to life
- Source appropriate photography, manage permissions and maintain the photo library.
- Support the ongoing development of key campaigns, including updates, proofreading, image research and commissioning designers.
- Play a crucial role in member and stakeholder engagement
- Manage distribution of publications for members, staff and events.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver a seamless service for our members.
- Represent the team at occasional UK-wide events, including our week-long Annual Congress.
- We're looking for someone who can work confidently in a fast-paced environment, build strong relationships and bring precision and creativity to everything they do.
Experience & skills required for the role
- Experience in a communications or publications role, including writing for print and digital.
- You will have worked in the public sector in communications and, ideally in a health or membership setting.
- A strong copywriter, editor and proofreader - able to follow house style and follow guidelines with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience of working on publications and a wide range of channels and formats
- Able to understand complex information or policies to create engaging content
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines within a busy team.
- Excellent literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.
- Confidence of working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels
- Educated to an A-level standard or equivalent; a communications-related qualification
- Willingness to travel occasionally (including overnight stays) and attend Congress.

The Challenge
We are looking for a fabulous new marketing person to join our award winning team.
It’s been an incredible few years for Epilepsy Action with a re-brand and national campaigns reaching millions of people. We are now an established YouGov Top 200 UK Charity and have grown our financial turnover and scale dramatically.
- Despite this there is still so much to do to realise our vision of ‘a world without limits for everyone with epilepsy’ by 2030.
- 1 in 100 people in the UK have epilepsy. Despite this public awareness is incredibly poor and healthcare provision the second worse in Europe.
- Over 1,000 people die from epilepsy every year and most of their families didn’tknow it could be a fatal condition. Over 80% of people with epilepsy face depression and just 27% of working age people find employment.
- People with epilepsy are twice as likely to commit suicide than the general population.
There is a long way to go but we are making progress. By acting as the UK’s community for epilepsy we bring people together to end isolation and improve wellbeing. Last year 73 new people signed up to our community every day. They did so because they are inspired by our work and the impact we are having.
At Epilepsy Action we recognise the power of collaboration and teamwork, so our team members with hybrid contracts can expect to work a minimum of 40% at our office in Leeds. On average this is 2 days a week, normally on Mondays and Thursdays, for full-time employees. The expectation to collaborate face-to-face is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do which may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to help us create a world without limits for people with epilepsy
The Role
The challenge now is to double down on the momentum of the past few years. To continue to challenge stigma and raise awareness of the UK’s largest hidden disability.
To do that we need another creative person. Someone who can help to tell great stories that build empathy and resonance. Someone who can think about how we turn that positive feeling into action.
Specifically this person will be responsible for turning creative ideas into a stream of activity that makes sense to our audiences. You will be supported by a fantastic and diverse team bigger than the sum of their parts. They are open to new ideas and are bristling with confidence from recent shared successes.
There is also a brand consistency element to this role. This is not the conventional brand steward who tells people off for using the wrong fonts and logos (it is a bit!). It is more about ensuring that everything we do re-enforces our positioning. A charity of action that will do whatever it takes to help people with epilepsy.
To be successful you will be someone who can balance strategic discipline with softer relationship building skills. Someone who can be ambitious but empower others along the way by giving them the space to bring their own ideas and creativity.
