Job description

Are you an experienced writer and editor who would love to work on stories about the challenges and successes in wildlife conservation?

We want to hear from you! Synchronicity Earth is looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join our small, dynamic Communications team and help promote the work of our programmes and partners around the world.

You will have an important role in creating digital content for our email and social media audiences, which will mean using your initiative to pick out strong stories from our programmes.

About Synchronicity Earth

Synchronicity Earth is a UK-registered charity focusing on global biodiversity conservation, specialising in overlooked and underfunded species and ecosystems.

We are research-driven, raising and distributing donor funding to the conservation sector.

To increase the impact of this funding, we develop programmes focusing on areas where the gaps in funding overlap with the highest risk of extinction, habitat destruction, and threats to biological and cultural diversity.

Through our programmes, we provide core and flexible support to (often local-led, women-led, and/or youth-led) partners addressing issues such as the amphibian extinction crisis, freshwater biodiversity loss, and the ‘silent forests’ of Southeast Asia.

Application and recruitment process

· Complete the application questions, upload a cover letter (no more than one side of A4), upload your CV (no more than two sides of A4), and submit your application through Charity Job. Please do not use AI, see below.

· Fill in our candidate survey. Whilst this survey is optional, it is the way to opt in to the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (information below) if you would like.

A NOTE ON AI USE IN YOUR APPLICATION:

Your application will be used to assess your skills in writing and editing, which are critical for this role. Please note that if you use AI in your application, you are much less likely to be shortlisted as we will not be able to do this assessment.

We want to read your authentic voice and see your unique self in your application, and using AI will make your responses far less individual.

Our promise to you is that we do not use AI in any part of our recruitment and selection process.

Recruitment timeline

Closing date: 10 August 2026 9am

First stage interviews (Zoom):  17-24 August 2026

Second stage interviews (at our London office in-person): 1-3 September 2026

Our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Inclusion is a priority throughout our workplace culture and is embedded in our recruitment process.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds for this role, particularly non-graduates, and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements. We also welcome candidates who have taken a career break.

Candidates from Black, Asian, and Minority-Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds and people with disabilities who meet the criteria (in the section of the job description headed ‘What you will bring to the team’) and opt-in to our Guaranteed Interview Scheme will enter the first recruitment shortlist, see more information below.

The first stage of recruitment will be anonymised by Charity Job to mitigate against unconscious bias.

Please let us know at any stage during the recruitment process if you have any accessibility requirements and we will do what we can to accommodate these for you.

Please also let us know which pronouns you would like to be referred by, if you wish.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

We recognise that people from Black, Asian, and Minority-Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds and people with disabilities are under-represented in our sector, and that there are often additional barriers present for people from these groups when applying for roles in the charity sector and beyond.

As part of our commitment to attract and retain talented individuals from under-represented groups to the conservation and environment sector, if you belong to these groups, you can opt in to the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) in our candidate survey.

See the attachment which outlines how to do this and includes the link to the survey. If you meet the criteria for a role listed in the job description under ‘What you will bring to the team’, you'll be guaranteed a first-stage assessment (either online interview or task) alongside other shortlisted candidates.

The results of this will be used to select candidates for the next stage.
