Job description

Main Purpose of Position: 

To work with the Head of Community and Communications (HCC) to lead on the smooth running of “Reach” social change events and to support in amplifying Nova’s voice through all our communication channels.

About You: 

We’re looking for someone with experience across both events and communications that seek to challenge prejudice and promote social cohesion. You’ll be passionate about humanity and bringing people together in the name of positive social change. 

Our ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running – picking up and turning around tasks quickly with high attention detail and excellent time management. This role necessitates a creative approach to both events and communications, a problem-solving attitude and a love for working with people. 

You’ll be a confident communicator who is able to make sense of complex information and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences, and you'll be adept at building strong working relationships. You’ll have excellent organisational skills, with experience in managing multiple projects at any given time. 

You’ll have up-to-date knowledge of content and social strategy, user experience principles and emerging digital trends. Demonstrated experience of managing social media channels and content management systems.  

Your copywriting skills and attention to detail will help us create both clear and impactful internal and external messaging whilst achieving a high standard of brand consistency.

Alongside being a brilliant communicator, you have experience of running community events and/ or diversity and inclusion initiatives and are excited to work on our Reach initiatives such as anti-Racism dialogues, The Human Library, Great Get Together and TEDx Ladbroke Grove.

Responsibilities/ Core duties: 

Events 

  • SupportHCC to coordinate an annual programme of events in partnership with a variety of stakeholders. Sourcing venues, suppliers, the preparation of event documentation, and the management and monitoring of budgets 

  • Ensure that event roles and responsibilities are set out clearly for each event 

  • Lead on the delivery and support with the facilitation of events, workshops and other activities 

  • Ensure evaluation is captured, recorded and reported on effectively 

Communications and Marketing

  • Implementthe overarching communications strategy ensuring for a joined-up approach to all communications along with leading on our communications calendar 

  • Produce creative multi-purpose and multi-channel, audience-led content including the monthly e-newsletter, awareness assets, seasonal campaigns and annual/impact reports aligned to our calendar of activity 

  • Day-to-day management and content creation for social media channels, increasing reach across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using tools such as Canva and Hootsuite 

  • Ensure the website is regularly updated in line with activities and events 

  • Use our brand asset bank, with templates, toolkits, messaging guidelines and brand guidance, and provide regular communications in order to maintain and improve brand consistency 

  • Gather insight fromwider team to ensure website is regularly updated, creating trusted, informative and up-to-date content. 

  • Utilize analytics to continuously evaluate the digital strategy and improve reach  

  • Increase awareness of Nova New Opportunities.  Keep up to date with sector developments and promote pro-humanity messaging 

  • Engage with our volunteers and partners on the ground to identify storytelling opportunities.  

  • Accurately draft engaging copy in line with our tone of voice for case studies and press releases to tight timelines 

  • Build awareness of our work with various media outlets, local partners and aligned influencers 

  • Be responsible for sourcing stock imagery and have overall imagery storage management responsibility across the charity 

  • Be responsible for sourcing key quotes/ stories – have overall quote management responsibility across the charity 

  • Ensure mailing lists are organised, updated and maintained 

  • Stay up to date on developments with digital technology, identifying new opportunities 

  • Support the HCC to deliver day-to-day internal communications activities and play an active role in developing and making recommendations for future improvement

Administration 

  • Meetings: Attendinternal and external meetings, take notes and follow up as required 

  • Routine correspondence: drafting correspondences, emails, calls 

  • Support with monitoring and evaluation to improve programme quality and develop the programme to reflect Nova’s strategic objectives in response to changes in the operating context 

General

  • Encourage and maintain links between staff and volunteers, keeping a good flow of information and communication 

  • Maintain a general working knowledge of the activities of the organisation 

  • Undertake any other duties as may from time to time be required 

  • Be open and responsive, working in a collaborative way with other staff members to create and implement the systems, policies and procedures outlined above and develop the organisation 

  • Work within Nova’s Equality and Diversity Policy through personal example, open commitment and clear action, ensuring fair treatment in employment, service delivery and external communications 

  • Adhere to Nova’s policies and procedures on confidentiality and the management and sharing of information and to work at all times within the established policies and practices of Nova. 

  • Ensure the maintenance of a safe working environment 

Person specification:  skills, knowledge and experience  

Essential  

  • 2+ years' experience of related marketing and events work experience including design, social media strategy and event design/ delivery 

  • Passionate about social justice and community cohesion 

  • Experience of planning and executing Marketing and Communications activity across a range of channels 

  • Good understanding of developing engaging multi-purpose, multi-channel content

  • Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Experience of working with Wordpress 

  • Proven track record of building and fostering excellent working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to write and design creative copy i.e. social media posts, campaign copy and supporter engagement emails/e-newsletter

  • A keen eye for detail and excellent proofing and editing skills, ensuring high standards whilst working under pressure

  • Experience of using CRM and email marketing platforms

  • Competent/advanced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • A quick learner of new software and skills 

Desirable  

  • Knowledge and experience of the charity sector

  • Experience of using design and video editing software

  • Experience working with Eventbrite and/ or other event management software 

  • Understanding audience-led Marketing and Communications planning and execution across the mix

  • Experience of brand management/acting as a brand ambassador

  • Experience designing and delivering D&I programmes 

  • Experience using tools such as Hootsuite & Canva 

  • Experience drawing up infographics 

  • Experience of delivering virtual events

Role location: Please note that this role will be majority home based with the expectation to work from the office once per week.
