About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our finance team at a time as we implement our new strategy over the next 5 years. Working closely with teams in the corporate service directorate, you’ll be responsible for the provision of financial analysis, support as well as preparing and processing the month end journals and completing balance sheet reconciliations.

About you

You’ll be a part-qualified accountant who is pro-active and able to communicate effectively with staff and managers from non-financial disciplines. You’ll also have the ability to discuss financial performance with budget holders, deliver improvements to financial reporting and works well within a team and independently.

AFK is a national charity helping young disabled people develop their independence and find employment.  As part of this we provide bespoke travel training on London’s public transport network to and from school, college and work placements in the North London area.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible candidates to train and support young people to travel specified journeys safely and independently using public transport.

Overall Job Purpose

To train and support a young person to travel a specified journey safely and independently using public transport.  Record your observations and give feedback to the travel training coordinator, the young person and their family.  To take part in reviews of training as it progresses.

Working Conditions

• Casual working assignment with no minimum hours guaranteed

• Each assignment must be mutually agreed by both parties

Responsibilities

• Support a young person door-to-door as they travel on public transport.
• Familiarise yourself with the following documents –

1. Journey Plan – describes the route you and the trainee will follow, and the alternative route(s) if the need arises. 
2. Risk Assessment – outlines the support needs of the trainee, and risks and strategies to mitigate them.

• Record your observations using standardised forms and relay your observations to the travel training coordinator on a weekly basis.
• Allow the young person to learn independently and only guide, support or intervene when necessary (this will be included in your induction)
• Approach travel training in a positive manner by reinforcing achievements and viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn.  Discuss strategies and agree solutions with the young person, their family and the travel training coordinator.
• To contact the travel training coordinator immediately if there are any emergencies or unexpected situations.
• Ensure that the young person is trained to use the alternative route safely and independently.
• Ensure that the young person learns and/or knows how to contact parents or carers in case of an emergency
• Any issues or concerns must be raised with the travel training coordinator or the business development manager.

Additional Responsibilities

• Learn the support needs of the young person prior to training
• Become familiar with the route
• Become familiar with and then follow AFK’s safeguarding policies and procedures

Flexibility

Our London-based staff operate on a hybrid model, working in our office within London South Bank University (one minute from Elephant and Castle tube station) on Mondays and Tuesdays (for full time staff – part-time staff are only required to work one of those days in the office) and at home for the rest of the week. We also have staff outside London who are fully home-based. Job Title: Arts and Learning Strategic Lead

Location: Based at our head office in Islington, London (10 minute walk from Highbury and Islington station) with cross working in various prisons across England, Community sites, and home working

Salary: £47,000 (Full time equivalent)

Shift Pattern: 22.5 hours per week Monday to Friday between 09:00 - 17:00 with some flexibility. You may be required to work outside these hours as per service requirements.

About the role

This is a brand new role, supporting the Head of Safe Ground with the strategic oversight and delivery of our programmes. Safe Ground has been at the forefront of designing and delivering innovative arts-based, therapeutically informed interventions within the criminal justice system and in communities across the UK. As we approach our 30th anniversary this year, we remain dedicated to challenging systematic injustice through the programmes we run and the partnerships we build. This role is a great opportunity to be part of our transformative goals, in being part of creating systematic change.

Using theatre arts, and culture, we design initiatives to support those impacted by the criminal justice system in gaining deeper insights into themselves, their relationships and their behaviours. We do this by equipping our participants with practical tools and building a community who are open to doing things differently. In this role, you will develop best practice around creative interventions, building powerful partnerships with commissioners, partners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring our programmes are being delivered to the highest standards. You will lead on the development of new and existing arts-based work, identifying gaps and opportunities for growth within the sector.

• Oversee the development of new creative ideas and programmes as well as programme adaptations and redesigns. Ideas could be linked to theatre productions in and out of custodial settings, short films, live events, symposiums, but may also include new art forms and working with new artists
• Development of a local / national facilitator network
• Create and deliver engaging high-quality programmes which support rehabilitation and reintegration for participants
• Design and deliver innovation arts-based high quality training and quality assurance support to management and delivery teams across the SIG network - focusing specifically on relationships, culture and communication, conflict resolution, storytelling, power-sharing and co-production
• Lead on the development of creative ideas for Safe Grounds 30th anniversary, including; relationship building and partnership development, advocacy and networking, idea development - radio / stage / film etc
• Provide high quality peer-mentoring spaces, leadership, and line management to staff, offering guidance, support, and advice to the team to support them to perform to the best of their abilities. Facilitate the team in identifying solutions to challenges presented in relation to all elements of service delivery
• Proactively embed a culture of learning, development, reflection, and evaluation in a psychologically informed environment

About you

We are looking for someone who is ambitious and passionate about supporting people who have experienced multiple disadvantages and social exclusion. You will have proven experience in arts development and strategic support, with an extensive understanding of the criminal justice system and the role in which arts-based interventions play. You will be creative, empowering, and be a dedicated lead in supporting our strategic growth. You will understand arts-based interventions and methodologies, and have experience in developing and delivering creative programmes and productions.

• Previous experience in working and engaging with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
• Previous experience in developing, producing, and/or performing professional productions for example film, television, or theatre productions
• Proven experience in designing innovative arts-based programmes and extensive experience of facilitation of programmes and/or training for various groups
• A theoretical understanding of co-production models and practical application of building them and embedding them into best practice
• Previous experience and/or ability to people manage and develop a team
• Ability to create, develop, and deliver new programmes and/or creative content in various settings such as prisons, communities, and wider criminal justice settings
• Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral. Ability to form and build effective relationships and rapport with others

• Steward, manage and oversee best practice in partner engagement and provide insights and input to support the organisation’s partnership approach.
• Support the operationalisation of the Impactful Partnerships Strategy and the recommendations of the Partnerships Roadmap (which might include a staff engagement plan).
• Work with the Impact and Learning team to ensure that Impact & Learning tools and processes capture data on partnerships, reflect changes based on the stakeholder segmentation, stakeholder analysis and partnerships mapping tools.
• Review ClientEarth’s current partnership approach from a decolonial point of view, to identify and plan changes needed across the organisation.

We are looking for a visionary and strategic Digital Movement Building Strategist to lead our digital organising, narrative change, and storytelling work at Power to Prosper. This is an exciting senior policy role in our committed policy team leading the fight to end child poverty in the UK. The development of a UK-wide child poverty strategy in government means this is a great time to join CPAG as we look to influence to influence policy makers to adopt our evidence-based policy solutions to child poverty.

We are looking for someone to take a lead role in developing evidence-based policy positions to support CPAG’s influencing and campaigns work. You will have knowledge of political processes and how external organisations can effect change. You will have a track record of producing high quality research and analysis, including policy briefings, on social policy issues. You will enjoy working collaboratively to identify policy issues and develop solutions, working closely with colleagues across the organisation as well as externally.

The postholder will be working in a fast moving, high profile and complex policy environment and will need to balance short term priorities with long term objectives. Current priorities include influencing the development and implementation of the forthcoming child poverty strategy, sharing analysis and expertise as part of the DWP’s review of universal credit, and monitoring the development of the green paper on the changes to disability benefits, and the white paper on employment.

Core Job Purpose:

The Production Coordinator is responsible for maintaining, overseeing and coordinating all of FCW’s in-cell production. This is an exciting and varied role which helps contribute to the smooth running of the charity.

The duties of the role include:

· Administration of sending and receiving kits stitched in prison.

· Supporting volunteers teaching in prison by dealing with materials requests and orders.

· Ensuring our stitchers are paid for their work accurately and efficiently.

· Providing feedback on the stitching by our in-prison workforce.

· Assisting the extended production team with the ordering of materials, special commissions, donations requests and our tapestry finishing service.

· Gathering, logging and reporting on information related to production and prisoner pay using FCW’s custom database.

· Visiting our stitching groups in prison to get an better understanding of the challenges with production that both our volunteer teachers and our stitchers might face in delivering FCW production

You should have excellent interpersonal skills, be accurate in your attention to detail, be flexible and have the ability to take initiative. We expect you to work independently, prioritising your own workload, as well as working as part of a small, lively team.

Principal Accountabilities for the Core Job:

1. Support our volunteers and stitchers by sending our pre-prepared kits to volunteers around the country ahead of the stitching classes and receiving kits back from volunteers.
2. Administer the production process on FCW’s custom database: logging items as they are sent to prisons and volunteers around the country, tracking items as they are returned from prison, providing feedback to prisoners on the work completed and maintaining standards through rigorous quality control.
3. Process payments to prisoners on a weekly basis.
4. Support Fine Cell Work volunteers by dealing with requests for threads and troubleshooting problems with kits. 
5. Log data, collate and report on production, prisoner pay and stitcher statistics as required for the senior management and the fundraising teams, to include monthly reports and annual reports.
6. Supporting the use of FCW’s custom database to include testing and feedback on new features and uploading and maintaining relevant information.
7. Order materials in advance for production activities in prison workshops as well as at the FCW office, liaising with commercial suppliers as well as materials donors. Supporting the production manager with the production of all kits in prison workshops as well as by volunteers in the office.
8. Work with the Programmes and Impact Officer to enable Open College Network accredited training to be delivered in prisons by making up and sending out starter kits and materials to stitchers.
9. With the Programmes and Impact Officer, provide technical support for our lone stitchers by sending out work, talking to them on the phone or replying to letters.
10. Where appropriate, working with the Design and Commissions team to assist with the preparation of specialist kit and sample products, ordering materials and collecting stitcher feedback to assist with future production.
11. Coordinate FCW’s tapestry finishing and making up service.
12. Support the production manager to ensure that all ability and pay levels are appropriate to FCW’s stitcher population ensuring these are made and assigned with a view to developing prisoners’ skills and self-responsibility.
13. With the Programmes team, co-facilitate production training for volunteers both online and in person.
14. Assist with bi-annual stock counts involving staff, volunteers, prison leavers and prison staff to include finished items, work in progress and raw materials in all the prisons where FCW operates, as well as at FCW’s London office.
15. Coordinate Fine Cell Work volunteers with their weekly tasks as provided by the production manager.
16. First point of contact for phone calls to the office, assisting callers with enquiries and diverting calls to relevant members of staff.
17. On occasion, visit cell groups in prison around the country to support volunteers and stitchers in FCW production.
18. Assist with Fine Cell Work events as and when required.
19. Ad hoc duties to support the work of the charity as required including back-up support to production with apprentices and volunteers in the Clothworkers Studio.

Fine Cell Work is a UK based rehabilitation charity and social enterprise which makes beautiful handmade products in British prisons. For 28 years we’ve been transforming the lives of people in prison and prison leavers, one stitch at a time. Our unique process boosts our stitcher’s self-worth, instils accountability, and fosters hope.

We support people in prison and prison leavers to finish their sentences with work skills, money earned and saved, and the self-belief to rebuild meaningful, independent, crime-free lives. 

Set up in 1997 by Lady Anne Tree following years of lobbying the government to change prison rules about prisoners earning money from work done in their cells, Fine Cell Work operates in 38 British prisons engaging with over 600 people in prison in 2024. Our stitchers are supported by our skilled and valued volunteers who visit prison fortnightly to teach needlework.

By providing, paid, purposeful activity to prepare people in prison to successfully reintegrate into the community post-release, we are teaching key soft employment skills, supporting the development of self-discipline and self-belief,  and working to improve prisoner well-being, all key in reducing recidivism.

This role is full time and based in our offices in Battersea, South London.

Salary: £27,000
