We're looking for someone who can build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally, communicate complex issues in clear ways, and help position the Church's net zero carbon work as a practical expression of our calling to care for God's creation.
Description
You'll understand that effective communication is about more than sharing information; it's about connecting with people's values, telling compelling stories, building relationships and clear calls to action. You'll be able to communicate the Church's response to the climate crisis in a way that is hopeful, authentic and rooted in Christian faith.
The Church of England's Net Zero Carbon Programme is working to reach net zero carbon across the energy used to heat, light, and power all of its buildings, including 16,000 churches, 42 cathedrals and over 4500 schools.
As Comms Lead for the Net Zero Carbon Programme, you will deliver the programme's communications strategy, working with colleagues and stakeholders across the Church to tell stories of progress and inspire action.
As well as copywriting skills, you will have an excellent eye for design and branding and will need experience in commissioning and managing external freelancers and agencies and maintaining budgets. You'll create engaging content across a wide range of channels, from blogs, reports to videos, campaigns and social media.

In this role you will:
Lead the delivery of the Net Zero Carbon Programme Communications Strategy
Create compelling, values-led content across multiple channels
Identify and tell inspiring stories from churches, schools, dioceses and cathedrals
Support stakeholder engagement and internal communications activity
Manage external agencies and creative suppliers
Monitor communications performance and evaluate impact
Work closely with colleagues across the national Church and dioceses
This is a home-based role, with occasional travel to Church House in Westminster and other locations for meetings.
This role would be a great role for an external secondment from a relevant comms role in a diocese.
This is a fixed term position lasting until 01 November 2027.

ESSENTIAL
Knowledge experience:
* Internal communications experience in a large and distributed organisation.

Key responsibilities
Social Media Management
• Develop and implement a social media strategy aligned with organisational goals.
• Manage day to day activity across all social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube
• Create engaging, accessible and audience , but not limited focused content including graphics, videos, reels, stories and written posts.
• Schedule and publish content using social media management tools.

Communications
• Develop and deliver internal and external communications campaigns by writing and editing high quality content.

The role
We are looking for a sharp, experienced communications professional to lead ASL's voice and drive its communications strategy at a pivotal moment in the organisation's growth. This is a senior, strategy-led role for someone who combines rigorous campaign instincts with genuine digital fluency.
About you
You have at least 8 years' experience in senior communications roles, ideally within campaigning or purpose-driven organisations. You have a track record of delivering communications campaigns with measurable real-world impact.
Critically, you are a digital native. You understand how campaigns live and die on social platforms, how to build and activate online audiences, and how to use data to test, iterate and sharpen messaging in real time. You are confident navigating the rapidly changing media landscape and as comfortable crafting a social campaign as you are pitching a broadsheet journalist.
You know how to tell complex stories simply without losing rigour. You understand that both message and messenger matter, and you know how to target both to diverse audiences across different markets and cultures.

Selection criteria
Essential
Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies for international campaigns with measurable outcomes

ROLE SUMMARY
This is the lead communications role at Youth Leads UK - the person who holds our voice, shapes our stories, and makes sure the world hears what our young people are doing and why it matters.
Working closely with the CEO and eventually supported by two Youth Content Creators, you will own the communications and engagement function across all channels and audiences.
